Colt factory did few if any conversions.Open tops made that way from cap & ball parts, 2 main styles,after Rollin White patent expired.Remington bought license from S&W in 1869 to make ctg guns.Also, Remington sold conversion kits for their 1858 until supply ran out. There were catalogue ads into the 1880's showing Remington w/ cap & ball and conversion cylinder as a package.Old inventory sold in foreign countries.Latin American conversions often encountered @ gun shows passed as factory.Beware

@Jordan3445 To answer some of your questions- it's available from Cimarron Arms, but you need to order through an FFL dealer. It comes either with or w/o snake grips- I ordered one without, because it's $250 for the snake grips (!). The barrel is 7 1/2 inches- the standard length of a regular blackpowder 1851 Navy. It is chambered for .38 special- a bit larger than the .36 cal the Navy came in. It cannot be converted to a .22. If you're looking for a good .22, I suggest the Ruger Single Six.

@hhamaildk True but after 1873 Colt refurbished and modified several 1851 Navys and 1860 Armies to fire cartridges. That being said, in the movie, Eastwood's would have been a .36 cal ball and cap.

@burzum6man the release of its housing under the barrel of the plug that makes stationary the spingipalla, we solved by welding, however, the problem has been reported to the Uberti factory, and I think that will solve them on the next inconvniente specimens. Very good weapon anyway. You the Board

@Grasshopper257 Cartridge loaded slightly below at least 20% less than the standard charge table, do not forget that the Navy has the castle open and consistent all the weapons of that type digests little heavy loads, would be affected in a negative way the pin of the drum .

@hhamaildk I agree that Mr. Leone took "artistic license" in these guns for the date he set the movie in. My observation was a reply about your statement that "there is no valid civil war brass cartridge guns AT ALL". Your comment did not specify HAND guns, only "guns" and that would include the two rifles mentioned. And the European pinfire revolvers as used by the Confederacy, while both uncommon and not in the movie, were used in the civil war. The "at all" part was my point.

Even though this revolver is proofed for STANDARD .38 special, I would advise only the use of cartridges loaded with blackpowder or a substitute. It is still an open top with a wedge and your gun will stay tighter with blackpowder. Never FAN your revolver unless it is modified by an expert and you have three of them(one to fire, one as a backup, one in the shop being repaired).

just made a taller sight for mine and it is damn perfection. i suggest you get one as well or make one it make shooting it way funner. what i did was buy the 1872 open top 5 1/2 in 38 and bought the 1851 conversion barrel later, its like having two guns for the price of one!

@hhamaildk That is not exactly true. THESE pistols were not cartridge guns at the time, but the Henry and Spencer rifles used cartridges, as well as the gatling gun. The Confederacy also had a few European revolvers that made it past the blockade that used early pinfire cartridges as well. So there WERE a very few cartridge guns in the civil war, but not many.

The Civil War saw many cartridge revolvers which were generally in violation of Rollin White's patent. This revolver was never meant to look like a Richards-Mason from 1869 but more like a gunsmith conversion. The movie would have been even better if only Blondie had the newfangled gun but the producers were dealing with a large number of safety issues and it looks like they fudged a bit on authenticity and gave several characters a conversion(actually not so much a conversion as a Model 1872 frame with an 1851 barrel).

@41maglover If I can give you some advice, do not like these weapons ammunition loaded with excessive charges would be preferable to use either soft or .45 cal.38, they remember the castle open and charges are excessive straining the pivot of the drum may loosen resulting in loosening of the barrel, if you use charges "quiet" as well as gain precision shells that get less and get stressed out more from the rooms of the drum. @hhamaildk You're wrong.Smith & Wesson patented that weak cartridge revolver and that prevented Colt to make cartridge revolvers and cartridge conversions.But patent not prevented any gunsmith in old West to convert percussion revolver to cartridge revolver.In late 1859,Thuer conversion was available,and after that,even more types of conversion.Civilians could have converted revolvers,but Army not because they had contract with Colt.So do not speak about things you don't know anything about.

@chattanogajim I went to Cimarron web site, like you suggested and entered the description you suggested for a search. It brought up the gun they say was used in the Spaghetti westerns and they say it's a .38 caliber. They had (on that web page) a link to 'Man with No Name Single Action'. On this page, there are two, both .45 caliber. One has a 5 1/2" barrel and the other has a 4 3/4" barrel. Again, this is the site YOU suggested. I don't understand the Richard Cane part in your reply.

@Liberty-or-Death-1776
@Liberty-or-Death-1776 4 жыл бұрын
The .45 cal is an 1873 Colt Army that Eastwood used in "Fistful of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More," the .38 cal is a replica of the 1851 Colt Navy Conversion that was specially built for Eastwood to use during filming of "The Good, The Bad, and Ugly." You can also buy the 1851 Navy without the rattlesnake grip and it will be just like Tuco's gun from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."
