Hey Gary Thanks for watching. If your fishing the Delta I suggest sticking with the chatterbait-dont get frustrated and keep gringing the weeds- everyone has been in your same place-keep your confidence and keep chucking. if your fishing mostly clear water lakes with no weed groth the chatterbait can be hit and miss. last suggestion -if your on the delta-give the jackhammer a try. let me know how you do.

Just want to say awesome video. I’ve been enjoying the bladed jig a lot and was trying to increase my performance with it. One question I have for you is do you ever catch them and you realize you just have them pinned and the hook hasn’t really penetrated the mouth enough? Would switching to a medium heavy moderate be the solution to this? I noticed when I switched to a moderate fast rod the hook penetrated well, but idk if that was because those fish just hit it like a train.
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 Жыл бұрын
If you're getting a better hook up rate with what ever rod your useing-keep using it. Every rod makes has a different version of heavy or med. heavy. A general rule is if the hook is not penetrating go with a little faster rod. It may take some experimenting but when everything gets right you will know - you'll have a good hookup rate and fish will not come unbuttoned. Good Luck.

In response to one of the questions below you indicated that you use 4 ft. Of mono as a leader. What knot do you use to connect to the braid, and why is it not a problem to drag that knot through the rod’s guides? Or is it a problem?
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec59973 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony I use a improved FG knot - any knot that is draged through a guide is a problem. In water that is less than about 3 ft. vis. I will go strait braid - it cuts through weeds better and I have a better feel for the vibration. I use mono in clear water because I get bit more - I use 18 lb. maxima with an improved FG knot. (checkout salt strong for inst. on thr FG knot) I also use a dab of UV knot sence to the knot and have had no trouble with breakage. I also redo knots once a week. I use Jackhammer chatterbaits 90% of the time - I also think the short mono leader must have an effect on the vibration and the kick of the bait - I fish the bait very slow with a quick reel turn that maks the bait do what I call a hip shake. I really can't explain why but the 55lb. braid to 18 lb. mono on a jackhammer just flat out produces for me.
@tonyl34613 жыл бұрын
@@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 Thanks for the clarification. Just so happens that I am moving from the Crazy Alberto to the FG knot. Thanks for the UV Knot Sence tip! I really enjoy hearing your information every week. And TT.Tiger agrees, if your “Tiger Wants Out” open the door!
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec59973 жыл бұрын
Make sure you tie the FG knot correctly - make sure the mono is 18 or 20 lb test and make sure to retie after a few days of fishing.

Hi Steve, could you introduce a little more on the gear setup for chatterbait? like rod (power, action, glass or hybrid or graphic), line, reel ratio, appreciated.
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec59974 жыл бұрын
Hey Li Every has their own ideas on set up but a 6.1 or 7.1 reel will work. In the delta I use 50 lb. braid with about 4 feet of 18 lb. Maxima mono. I think its important to to use the leader so your bait will ride over the weed s and not cut through causing more hang ups. I'm 6.4 so I like a little longer rod around 7 feet to 7.2 med action tip with good back bone in the mid range is good for setting hooks and keeping them pinned once hooked. let me know how you do. Thanks

Great videos, Steve. I have a question: I seem to lose lots of fish on chatterbaits. I switched to a soft rod made for Chatterbaits and my hookup has improved, but I don't seem to get the hook penetration. I see you lost one at the boat also. Any tips
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec59973 жыл бұрын
I like using a med. rod with a fairly fast tip and power in the mid section. I use 55 lb braid line with 3 to 4 feet of 16 to 20 lb. mono. This rig allows me to be able to feel the vibration of the chatter bait and also set hook hard without break offs. I suggest rotating through a few of your rods and make sure you're not sitting a really good C/bait rod that you don't even know you have. I have found lots of really good combos that I never suspected to be much untill I found just the right combo of rod -reel-line and leader. Good luck.

Thanks for watching-thanks for the suggestion-I'm learnig as I go and will try and remember to add rod detailsin comming videos. I like the Dobbyns Sierra Series rod for chatter baits. SA733-Med/Hvy fast action. I also use an old NRX rod that cost 3 times the cash and not really any better for my style of Chatterbait fishing. Some folks like a little slower rod but I really like the sensitivity of the fast action-just remember when your bait hangs up in vegatation point the rod at the bait and try using the reel to free it up. as soon as it pops out kill the bait.
