ChopDrop idea: How about arranging to get woodchips dropped at your in-town location = the coffee house? AND If you just happened to have an extra trailor who's not doing anything, you could leave it in the parking lot of the coffee house and instruct ChipDrop to dump the chips IN the trailor? Maybe save yourself some shovel work that way!

Thank you for touching on the principle that big is better. As you pointed out, small squash are better for table food while the big ones are better for hog feed. The same goes for me with strawberries. While the big berries look great, they never have the intensity of flavor the smaller ones have. That's only two examples were small is better than large. I'm a long-time follower. You're doing a great job.

As a family of just two, I feel like I'm always seeking out the smallest cabbage or head of cauliflower at the market. In part to try to mitigate waste, but also because as a grower myself, I know that smaller often means more tender and sweet as well. I have such a hard time with produce sold by count, not by weight, because I want to get my money's worth but also want the smaller more tender fennel bulb or the bunch of asparagus with the skinniest stalks. Makes for a tough choice.

Rural idea for wood chips - contact your electric co-op. In our area, our electric co-op contracts with a tree-trimming company to trim around the power lines, etc. They come through our area every 1-2 years. In rural areas they are often in a bind because it is a long drive to places where they can dump their wood chips, so they might be more willing to come drop for you! You would probably have to agree to take the whole truckload, but I promise, you go through more than you’d think! I’m covering walkways and border of a 2000 sq ft garden and will have gone through an entire dump truck bed full of wood chips!

I live with my daughter and her family, and I'm the family cook for the nine of us (4 adults, four teens, one kidlet who eats like the teens). Everyone used to love green beans. Love them. Sadly, they no longer do. They all used to love vegetables of all sorts and now they can't be bothered with anything plant-related, which makes this grandmother's heart sad. I've tried all sorts of cooking methods - steaming, stir frying, roasting, raw in salads. Nope to all the vegetables all the time, except potatoes, corn and some of them will eat cucumbers. Maybe one day they'll come back to the vegetables that they once ate willingly. I really mainly wanted to say that bucket of beans is just gorgeous, and I hope you enjoy them!

Such a great harvest! 😍 I wanted to share how I like to cook my frozen green beans - I put some bacon grease in a pan and toss my beans in there, season them with salt and pepper and sauté them at a medium heat for a few minutes to get some of that bacon flavor in them. Then I add in some chicken or vegetable stock/broth (I’ve used water in a pinch but it’s not as flavorful obviously) and some minced onions (I usually use dried but could definitely do fresh) and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. My family really likes it this way so just thought I’d share. It’s a nice way to use up bacon grease that we’ve saved from prior cooking and not have to have fresh bacon to go with your meal. 😊 Can’t wait to have some of my beans ready in the garden to pick! Mine aren’t ready yet. 😊

We are in the central part of of states under the OMEGA BLOCK which is making us hot and dry. Watering everyday or else everything will die. I love how your dog is by your side all the time. Bear is taking care of you. The garden is doing great but, just because I'm out there for hours everyday. Early in the morning and late in the day. We have a huge pile of wood chips from a tree they cut down early in the season. However, we are not putting them on the garden walkways. I need to try those beans some time. I've never grown them before. The more you pick them the more they will produce. Gardening really requires intense attention all the time. I get so frustrated at people that just do that "plant it and forget it"! NO! it requires attention all the time. I love how you always give so much valuable information in your gardening videos.

I’ve used beer traps before, and they are great for some slugs. Unfortunately we get a yellowish slug that seems completely disinterested in beer. I noticed though that those yellow ones tend to be attracted to the dust under the chicken feeder. I go out at night with a bucket of really hot water with a tiny drop of dish soap in it and wearing gloves I pick up the slugs and drop them into the water. I also do the same when we have slug plague (usually during wetter summers) and there are so many slugs that I find slugs climbing the trees to eat leaves. A few nights out can be enough to really reduce the population. A word of warning: the dead slugs will stink when they decompose, so I usually bury the contents of the bucket the following morning.

I used to love green beans and had them all the time. I would "fry" them. It was a recipe I put together years ago and was such a big hit that now (even though I don't make it much at home) it's a staple at family gatherings. If I don't make them, I WILL get flack from the fam for it. My recipe is really simple. Render down a pound of bacon and a pound of side meat, throw in thinly sliced onions and about two quarts (or 4-6 regular cans) of green beans (drained), and then add tons of minced garlic, and garlic salt; and then cook them down to where the onion is translucent and the beans are soft and slightly crispy. It's absolutely an unhealthy dish with all that fat but its totally indulgent and delicious.
