@@jodawgsup It is different from horoscopes due to the fact that you had to answer a set of questions to reach a certain type. Now whether those set of questions are accurately constructed is another topic to discuss but through these set of questions you yourself are just describing yourself and the personality is just a 'summary' of what could be your personality. Of course this is not entirely scientific as no one peer reviewed the process but it does make sense for someone if he/she tried studying his/her personality type than just assuming the results of his/her type is correct. Horoscopes on the other hand is just based on your birthday which really doesn't correlate to anything significant. I look at MBTI as a tool that you can use to learn more about yourself and other people. Knowing your partner’s type or your child’s type and being aware of that type’s tendencies/ characteristics can be very helpful. Who doesn’t want to be understood?
@jaymoney5222 жыл бұрын
I used to study and read this stuff non stop many years ago after reading an almost intrusively accurate description of my "type". There is definitely a lot of practical uses for being able to type or roughly type people around you and of course, a lot to be learned about your own strengths and weaknesses. I think its very important to remember however, what the word personality means. It stems from the root "persona" which literally means mask in latin. Your personality isn't really you, its just the mask you put on to engage with the world. But when you take that mask off, thats when life really begins!
@carikabester83352 жыл бұрын
Interesting perspective!
@Felix-dx2qw2 жыл бұрын
Your personality is you as much as your skin and bones, if you put up a 'mask' to engage the world with you can never take it off unless you are literally acting or have taken a heavy dose of psychedelics, even then it lurks in the background. Your persona encompasses your readiness to share or withhold information from people and is very much the real you whether you feel it as a subconscious force or not.
@jaymoney5222 жыл бұрын
@@Felix-dx2qw "Your personality is you as much as your skin and bones are you" - I completely agree with this statement. If a little piece of skin falls off is it still you? If you lose a finger is it still you? The two most fundemental misidentifications are with the body, and the mind. The truth is you are neither of those things- something far greater!
@Felix-dx2qw2 жыл бұрын
@@jaymoney522 You are all those things, the far greater being you talk about is dependant on your biological self to exist and experience life in this dimension. We are the universe experiencing itself as individuals. I think what you're not identifying is the difference between an individual and the universe they emerged from, there are far greater forces at play within and around us but we are just a piece of that. I think like most people, you fancy the idea that you're a multidimensional 'greater' being or force held in a biological shell, but really we are just the shell until eons have passed and all the energy from us, our minds to our skin along with the trees and stars has returned to it's other, 'greater' state.

Though this not be a hard science, it sure has helped me identify how people communicate and what they prioritize. Because of that, I can improve the way I understand and interact with others. I also have this belief that a "perfect type" is a balance of all the traits. So if we are too far into one side of any single trait, we should maybe evaluate ourselves and how that behavior could be impacting us negatively. For example, there's nothing wrong with being introverted, but you still need some kind of regular social interaction. I often have to force myself to make plans, and I always feel better after I do. I like to see personality theory as more of a tool than anything!

So now I learn Im rare and it actually explains a lot for me over my life because making true connections with people just hasnt happened. My opportunty to find greatness are very limited in relationships and jobs. Im a loner since childhood. I tell people im an introvert with a motormouth….at least when I choose to communicate. I dont always feel like it. I need to be triggered by interesting stuff….deeper not superficial chatter. Ive gotten less extreme in the J part which has contributed to my sanity but it took a lot of decades! Being misunderstood is a nonevent. I think that happens to a lot of people. I figured out my narsisstic mom was basically riddled with insecurities in my teens and forgave her for her hard to be with stuff. She could see herself pretty well with therapy and wasnt that bad. Its too bad…she could have been more happy otherwise! And I could have been more understood by this deeply intellegent person.. she did nick name me Sympathy. Instaed of my name Cynthia. Oh….she came because she gave me the book and helped me understand it. The book could be more clear in my opinion. I guess I should have been a teacher. I would have made a great teacher in certain subjects. Art mainly. Yes I had hard to treat depression before I was even 20. Some really dark reality things. Very little denial….if any. Mbti is a measurement of how one makes decisions, and which axes of perception and judgement lead them to those decisions. ENTJs are going to be the hard driving project leaders who might need to fire people. INTPs will make sure the technical work is done correctly. ENTPs will generate a lot of ideas and the ESTJs will follow up on the details and schedule. The F types will be in Human Resources. I could go on but it’s easy to see why corporations like it. However I agree with you, and in my opinion, who says that MbTI is a pseudoscientific idea, well it is usually "extroverted thought" . Anyway, of course, maybe the Mbti system. It is not always precise, it does not enjoy certainty, because it is based on people, and as we know, personalities are not cut perfectly, They evolve for the better and for the worse, continuously, it is unthinkable to have a clear shot. But at least Mbti is a system, which is better than the unconscious idea that anyone can ever make. It is based on data, not bias. It is active, not passive. It is an important tool.

Even if there was deep purpose in the test, the way it works feels like it persuades people to answer as who you want to be, and not necessarily who you are and I assume it takes an outside person to interview and answer on your behalf to be accurate. I've taken it each once a year for 4 years now, and have never gotten the same result. I went from INFP to INFJ to INTP and apparently now I'm an ISTP which means I've received every letter except E. I can honestly read the description of any personality result as long as it starts with "I" and they all sound accurate, which makes it feel a lot like a generic horoscope just to make you feel good or give some false sense of confidence or understanding. While it all confuses me, one thing I know for sure is I would quit any job that makes me take this test lol. Also, I was very excited to see another chatting with pop up on the homescreen :)

The reason why you got different results was because of how you answered it. You see when you finish the test it shows the percentage for example 51% introverted and 49% extroverted. This would mean you got an 'I' for introversion. If you answer 1 or 2 questions differently the next time you do it, you might get 49% introverted and 51% extroverted which will make you an 'E'. The same goes for the 3 other letters. Also yes, some personality types has similar traits but if you dive deeper into it, there will be a lot of differences. Sometimes they don't match perfectly but one of my friend matches ISTP perfectly. Everything it says about her is true and there is no other types she is similar to. For example, stubborn, can seem cold, easily bored, struggle with long term commitment, hates when people help her, likes being alone and she likes being alone more than anyone I met except for one of my best friends who's even more introverted. I was able to learn a lot from it and she confirmed it so I know more about what to and what no to do. Also it's better to the sakinorva cognitive functions test than the 16 personality types test website. It's more accurate. So yeah, do that test and it will show you a column of what you are most likely to be. Research deeper into each type and you will see the differences. Don't just read the personality off the main website.

I think the people who obsess over it usually understand the theory beyond the tests and descriptions and they take into consideration all the factors that you mentioned, like most people in the MBTI community agree that the tests aren't accurate. And so they study the theory itself and then they type purely according to it, independant of the tests. My tests, for example, show that I am an ISTP. I, however, know that I am an ISFP.

@@zdenda66alorddandas86 Yep, my test show that I am ISFP when I am INFP in the cognitive functions test and I indeed am INFP Edit: I wouldn't say obsessed, just intrigued.

Frank James obviously saw a comment on one of his videos about pseudoscience and is indirectly responding to that comment in this video. It's a type of manipulation that influences how you think about someone that INFJs use because I do it all the time

INFJ people we know what we are without needing to take the test. I have a bachelor's in psych worked in the medical field 30+ years, if anyone wanted to take the test and be classified as one then 95% of people would be one and that's not the case. I'm an extreme "sensitive" since childhood, total empath which is why I stand back and observe, people can drain my energy which is why I prefer to be alone, but can be completely social in one on one interactions. I would like to know if you have educational background or even work experience in the area? Or if you just started KZbin for money. I myself was administered the 500 question Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory by my psychologist 15 years ago and had no personality disorders. I'm a libra and true to my sign. I find 90% of people are their astrological sign, I have a mom and daughter who are Scorpio.

Libra and infj here. I think the set of stars and planets can affect... but there is a lot of fantasy in that topic. I find that interesting, but religious people manipulate the facts. Anyway, it's just slightly related to mbti.
@Jjj62122 жыл бұрын
@@vguerrero3999 astrological signs are in no way associated with any religion whatsoever. I'm a spiritual person but I don't belong to any organized religion but astrology has nothing to do with any religious beliefs. In my life I have been mostly bombarded with Scorpios, Gemini and Taurus and they all fit their sign completely. I fit the definition of the libra traits. So, in 54 years of observation of this it's not just coincidental. I also don't believe in coincidences.

@@Jjj6212 I'm a very-INFJ and allegedly a Taurus... /shrug I don't believe in coincidences either. Astrology means nothing to me, MBTI only suggests some things. I believe totally in Paul's Gospel of the Messiah, Jesus -- and I am not the least bit religious.

I personally think the literature supports, and gives you a more accurate look into your self, using the five factor model of personality. OCEAN openess to new expierience, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, extraversion, and Agreeableness. Also the history around the MTBI is questionable... the 5 factor model is the gold standard amongst the majority of personality psychologists.

I could have just put my iPad down and started doing something else more productive, but instead I wrote this comment about the interviewer introducing the guest as an “expert”. The expression on his face immediately thereafter is very interesting as it’s unclear to me if he’s comfortable or uncomfortable with that.

Infjs take a moment to warm up, they are kind of uncomfortable with flattery, also confidence issues
