What a great episode. You guys tapped into a lot of topics that I think about often, but struggle to articulate in conversation with others. Chris seems like such an interesting dude, and Andrew provides the perfect format for people to speak openly with each other. Looking forward to the future updates!

i was in lonelness mode for while, but i found lately that it is very easily to exit it. just find a way any way to start conversation, with any body even in manilpuative way. anywhere try to start conversations and that is it. you will open subjects to continue conversations and you will get acuantances everywhere...

The message i took was that if your spending the whole conversation thinking about your anxieties or any “noise”, you’re not giving the conversation your full attention. If you spent all that time thinking about what the person is saying you would find better things to say

I started watching this, became curious about the skull sized kingdom quote. Looked up David Foster Wallace. A “suddenly vocal cockatiel” is a character in one of his books and then wrote a not bad short story taking that a starting point. I love my morning coffee high brain activity times.

I think what affects me the most is the bad experiences I had rather than the good ones. Like trying to start a conversation with a stranger and just being completely ignored. I can't get that out of my head and I don't want that to happen again ever.
@olfrud

maybe reflect on what actually was so bad about it? you got your ego bruised a little bit, but why is this so traumatic for you? I once had to sing in front of a couple of 14 year old teenagers as an adult (solo) and they started laughing at me. That was also really bad, but I just got over it lol
@seansalo5117
@seansalo5117 5 ай бұрын
@@olfrud That's exactly it. The actual thing wasn't that bad - a bit awkward and embarrassing in the moment, but that emotion passes quickly. How we respond to and hang on to those negative feelings is the thing that we have the power to change. It starts with reframing - tell ourselves, in the face of that pain of embarrassment, that the experience wasn't painful at all, and was an exciting opportunity to challenge ourselves. Obviously this will feel patently untrue the first time or the first ten times, but after enough exposure, we start to believe and internalize this new message and start to replace our old truth (awkward) with our new one. The second part is just exposure therapy. Do this enough times and those experiences will cease being very painful or difficult, and may even turn into things we look forward to. I love making an ass of myself in front of people. It's good practice showing myself that I will continue to survive embarrassment, and I find that most people live vicariously through me, and my vulnerability makes them more comfortable and willing to be vulnerable themselves, so it actually encourages and catalyzes new relationships.

Great talk, but I kinda lost my credibility in him when he said "I go to church every Sunday". It's like, when you're that gullible, you are also more likely to be less critical about other things. Which is kinda scary when he calls himself an "expert" or "mentor" in something. Good chatting with though
