This video is super raw, barely edited and VERY unfiltered. I probably could have edited it more- cut out my stumbles but I wanted this video to just feel like friends catching up in a super vulnerable state. Enjoy xo Me talking about what I'm going through mentally does not invalidate anyone elses struggles. I get to some this may not seem like a big deal but I just want to advise everyone to be kind because everyone has the right to feel their feelings and they are all valid. I get that there are bigger problems in the world and I'm very fortunate to otherwise be healthy aside from my chronic illness but it's okay to be upset. For years I invalidated my feelings, my mental health and everything because "other people have it worse". And my therapist once told me "here's the thing, someone ALWAYS has it worse. If you look long enough and hard enough, you will find someone else with a worse story, more suffering, and more pain". Our ability to feel sadness, grief, and pain is not dependant on the severity of the problem. By hiding our feelings we are being polite, and some are silently suffering. Being polite doesn't protect us from pain; it doesn't keep the suffering away, it just makes us bottle up our emotions even more. The point of this video is not the pimples on my chin, it's having an open and honest conversation about how difficult it can be being a woman, choosing the right birth control etc. This has been SUCH a subject to tiptoe around for years and this video's aim is to normalize it NOT that I'm sad over having pimples lol.

I finally went off birth control 4 months ago and I have never been happier and felt more like myself!!! I was on birth control for about 12 years and at first I felt like it didn't affect me. But after so many brand switches with my BC (because they would stop manufacturing the certain brand I was on that I felt worked for me and I was forced to be on a different brand) I did not feel good for a long time, literally looking back I was in a depressed fog for years and I didn't even realize it!!! I was scared also because I didn't want to start a family but using rubbers has been perfect. But I am so serious when I say I wish I had never ever gone on BC. It takes such a toll on your body, hormones and your mental state in my opinion. Thank you for sharing how you've been feeling. I love your channel so much Carter!

Carter, I was more emotional on birth control (16-24 )than I have been off of it (35 now) I haven’t been on it for years. Yes my face broke out for a few weeks but I haven’t had issues since. I hated seeing you so upset, wish I could have just hugged you through the tv and tell you everything will work out cause it will. Stay strong, keep your head up and your beautiful smile on your face. You are so strong and independent. Thank you for not hiding true life and being real. ❤

I don't know if this is helpful, but in your video you said you are pro the pill and pro doing the best thing for you and for you that may just be coming off of it!!!!❤❤❤ Love chatty vlogs + feeling like I have an internet friend in Canada. Thank you for trusting us to share your heart with!!! I've can't relate in the same way as I've never been on the pill or anything but I've had "undiagnosable" gut issues for the last 3 years and it is so relateable to feel like you've been told a million different opinions and you don't know what to trust or believe. You're not alone and we all love you🌼

I also want to add as someone who had acne that was the cause of a medication, it took about a full year for my face to somewhat go back to 80-90% normal. Do what works for you on the birth control front, but if you think the acne is from the med switch (mine was from a mood stabilizing med), I agree that time is the best thing you can give it along with stress management healthy diet etc❤ but as someone who struggled with it suddenly too and didn’t even know the med I was taking was causing it - I’m with you! Time can feel forever.

Also, as soon as I stopped birth control I felt like I was back in control over my emotions and body. I understand the benefits to birth control, but the hormonal imbalances were the worst and not worth it in my opinion.

I second this!! I also looked into tretinoin and there is some research to support neurotoxicity and depression, anxiety and mood swings. I’d give my body a break to just try to get to baseline, when I stopped birth control there was a period of adjusting from getting off the IUD (low progesterone because my body wasn’t producing it). But even with some sluggishness and emotions I still felt so much more in control of myself it was a totally different feeling. Praying for you I hope you get back to feeling yourself! ❤❤

Hey Carter! I know it can be very scary thinking about going off birth control because it is such a huge Safetynet but I promise you you will 100% feel better if you go off. I would highly recommend using the Natural Cycles app paired with an Oura ring. The ring connects to the app and will automatically take your temperature every day and tell you when you’re fertile and not fertile, it’s such an easy natural birth control option. I know it’s really scary to think about but this was definitely such an easy option for me when I was overwhelmed by my birth control experience. I am also on tretinoin and KZbinrs, Abby Young and Skin Care by Hiram have been so so helpful in my acne (and tretinoin) journey. Praying for you! And wishing you all the best ❤️

Thank you for sharing your story Carter. I went through a similar situation. I have struggled with acne since I was 13 or 14 before even getting my period. I felt so uncomfortable in my skin for years. I went on birth control when I was 17 and I did see some improvement with my acne. About 3 years into the pill, I started feeling not like myself mentally and decided to switch pills. I was then on the new pill for about 2 years but I still continued to not feel like my full self. I then sat down with my significant other and discussed my options of staying on the pill or going off. He was supportive of me with whatever I chose. I ultimately decided to go off the pill. I was on birth control for about 5 years before I went off. I think I was contemplating going off the pill for almost 2 years before I really did it and I think it is the best decision I could have made for myself. I spent that time doing lots of research on BC and in the end I felt more comfortable going off of BC. My skin now looks the best it has in a long long time. I still get the occasional pimples around the time I am supposed to get my period which is one of the ways I can tell that I will be getting my period soon. I am now almost 3 years off BC and am still very content with my decision. Carter, don't worry about disappointing others. This is a decision for only you and YOUR body. You are still going to be the same person with the same passions and beliefs regardless what you decide to do. At the end of the day, it is about what will make you feel the most comfortable. And you can always change your mind. It may take some trial and error to find what works best for your body. What may work for someone may not work for someone else. Give yourself some grace

I struggled with HORRIBLE acne for years and years. I had acne scars all over my face. I switched birth control a million times. I tried everything, washed my pillow cases every other day, tried every cream and supplement and mint tea and AGH girl I get it. The toll it takes on your mental health and your confidence is indescribable. This does not work for everyone, but I went completely vegan and oil free for a year and everything cleared up. It was the only thing that ever worked. Now I eat dairy on occasion and sometimes I’ll break out if I do too much, but changing my food was the only thing that worked. I feel you, Carter. It’s just fucking hard.

I was chronically ill through my entire 20s and had no energy, tons of stomach issues, and poor mental health. Couldn’t find answers anywhere, Docs just kept throwing pills down my throat. Finally in some random thread online someone mentioned quitting birth control solved all their stomach issues. I quit right then and there… I completely got my life back. I’m now 35 and I feel so much better in every fashion (sex is waaaay better too) and I will never take birth control ever again. I’m so sad I lost a decade of my youth to it and no doctor ever said, hey, maybe it’s the side effects of your birth control causing all these physical/mental health issues. I recommend the book “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” to anyone wanting to get off birth control. Diet is huge too, cutting out (completely) sugar, carbs, and alcohol will greatly improve pretty much every ailment you can think of. It takes a lot of discipline but it’s so worth it.

I was on Yaz and had such a similar experience. It’s the worst my depression ever was. I have an amazing Gyno, and she told me to stop that pill immediately. I then went to a normal combination pill. That along with lexapro was the best I had ever felt in my life. It worked perfectly for almost a year until I started getting migraines with aura. I was devastated when they told me me I had to stop what worked because of my increase in risk for stroke. My new pill messed up my skin band mood again, and I gave up on the pill. My skin actually cleared up much better after the pill, and my mood still fluctuates with my cycle, but I am working with a naturopathic doctor like you to try to fix my hormonal imbalance issues. I’m 23 and have had issues since I was 14. Over the last couple of years, I’ve educated myself and improved so much from where I was You are absolutely not alone. We love you 🫶🏼

I'm 38, and I've been on birth control most of my life. I stopped it for about 6 months, and when I started again, I was taking Mya and then Alesse. Mya made me feel like death, and Aleese made my chest hurt, and I started getting acne all over my jawline and chin. I've never had acne in my life! So I was pissed! I switched to Lo-Lo, which is the lowest dose of birth control you can get.... No more acne, and I'm feeling great! Hope this helps with your decision! P.s. You are still soooo beautiful! ❤

Aww Carter I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m struggling with acne too and feel so lost about what to do. I’m working on being able to afford going to a dermatologist. It seems like everything I try either makes it worse or the company discontinues what does work. I was so excited to be able to watch your videos again. I’ve been avoiding KZbin for the past few months because I was going to the Taylor Swift concert and didn’t want to see any spoilers. Honestly your videos are the only thing I missed about KZbin. And it makes me so sad that the first video I saw was how much your hurting. :( I was trying to explain to my girlfriend about why I love your channel so much and was like basically she’s motivational and honest and just feels like a friend.

Thank you for sharing your heart and opening up this conversation! It’s so needed! I don’t have too much to say on birth control, but something that helped and empowered me was taking a deep dive into how my body was designed to work. That means hormones (not only my sex hormones), glands, micronutrients (vitamins & minerals) and really understanding the phases of my cycle. I am currently doing natural family planning and was able to balance my hormones to where I now have a regular cycle. My husband and I only use condoms when I’m fertile and have been doing that for two year now and i haven’t gotten pregnant yet. All in all, for me it requires intentionality to learn how our bodies work and that might feel like a lot at first, but once I started really tuning in to what my body was telling me (and screaming at me 😬) I felt more in control. I could advocate for myself! And felt more confident. 🤍🤍

I was on birth control for a very short period of time. I think I was anywhere between 20-24 in my first serious relationship when I first started Depo-Provera and I ended up hating it. I stopped going in for my shots after the 3rd trip to my pcp. And this wasn’t even an option I fully looked into, i chose the most stress free option for me at that time. For acne, it did nothing bc my acne wasn’t a huge issue. Now in my late 20s I’m well beyond birth control and I also don’t take any medication for my hormonal acne. I’ve experimented with different skin care routines, lowering stress and trying to give my body I see it responds to. All in all, it’s normal and healthy to be concerned about what path to take to get your acne/personal wellness under control. You are not alone ❤

I don’t think people without acne understand how big it is to come on the screen makeup free and confident. Especially if you aren’t use to having it. So far, I been using ONE multivitamin, omega hi-po, PCO px, and magnesium and drinking 70oz. In the last 3 weeks I’ve had 2 blemishes. So I can say it’s slowed down but I have to test it out longer. Thanks for sharing. We aren’t alone.

Carter. From a woman who’s twice your age and watched your videos…this is part of the things women “know” but don’t talk about…kinda like giving birth and everything that goes along with that… I started birth control at 10. Yes, I said that correctly…10. Back in 1984. A year after I got my period to “regulate” them”. Was on the pill until 26 years old. During that time I had been through every new birth control dropped on the market from 87 to 00 and had developed deep cystic acne on my chin…a VERY common side effect. I was also a regular emotional wreck. I distinctly remember balling my eyes out to a commercial that was on in the 90’s , I think for a credit card where a dad had purchased a girl a bike and it got stolen out of their front yard right after her first ride…I mean BALLED. FOR DAYS. I stopped the pill because I never knew myself without it and the only thing I knew of myself was constant irritation. Stopping the pill changed my life. My husband and I discussed it and chose to use other methods of birth control…I had been responsible for it all those years, it was his turn. At around 32 I had the IUD put in and then removed 3 years later because one of the side effects of all those years of being on birth control was developing PCOS and the Mirena exacerbated that to the point of putting me in the ER with a ruptured cyst. With all this being said… you don’t have to ask for permission from strangers on the internet to do what’s best for your body. The decision to take hormones is a VERY personal one and any woman who would argue with you as to what’s best for your body should check themselves…judging other women and attempting to dictate their bodily autonomy is absolutely NOT the vibe. You don’t need to justify your decisions to anyone especially when it comes to your own body… You also aren’t doing anything wrong by NOT using female direct birth control. There is a whole other method out there that doesn’t require YOU to take on the lions share of the responsibility. I’m sure Matt would agree. I hope you give yourself more grace with this decision and remember that this steadier on the internet is still watching and still linking. Be kind to yourself. 😊😊😊😊

The struggle with acne is hard and you're not alone in this, it's totally okay to struggle with it and I hope you're able to find the right treatment and feel better soon! I had supppper severe cystic acne and tried everything with no luck until I completely cut out dairy and eggs for a different reason unrelated to my skin, even though I had no other symptoms of being lactose intolerant etc it seemed that was what was causing some kind of reaction on my skin and it's been clear ever since, I'll actually know if I've accidentally eaten something with dairy or eggs in as it's the only time now that my skin gets bad, it only takes one slip up! It did take a while to work but once it did I then wish I'd known before going the hormonal and chemical literal skin burning products routes. Also for both my brother and my cousin they had to cut out processed sugar for intolerances and that cleared theirs. Know this one isn't what people want to hear when it's the foods they love and this won't be the same for everyone but I'd definitely say if you feel you've explored all options then look at the gut/intolerance direction. A lot of acne products treat/manage acne but don't actually cut it from the root cause - which there will be one it'll just be different for everyone whether it's skin type/hormone related/food or gut related etc!

I feel like we have a very similar story. Was on BC forever and a day. Had some acne issues. After I got married I got my IUD out, went in the pill, and couldn’t stand it. I felt like a monster. I did not know who I was and immediately got off it. It took a bit, and about 6 months of a regimen from my derm, but after a lot of learning and nourishing my body my acne went away. We did natural family planning for 4 years and very much had our daughter when we wanted and planned for. I have not been back on bc since having my daughter and haven’t had acne or been pregnant again (which is very much the plan as it stands, she is almost 3). I feel you when you say your time with bc is coming to an end. I will never go on it again.

Hi Carter! Thank you for sharing how chaotic it can be when dealing with BC pills, acne and hormones. I tried 4 different pills and none worked (my mental health was trash) so I gave up. My withdrawl symptoms were migraines mainly, I had some pimples here and there. THEN, I lost my period for 3 months at a time. NOT normal, so I went to my OBGYN, did tests and got diagnosed with PCOS. She and my doctor asked if i wanted the pill, I said no. 6 months trying to naturally balance my hormones and I feel great. That's what worked for me. What I'm trying to say - your intuition, experience and logic knows what's best for your body. No choice is easy, but time will tell. You got this Carter! Wishing you find what works best for you. Whether that's the new pill for 3 months, IUD or off the pill for a while.

Nobody talks about this, but I feel like it is soooo common! A few years ago, I went through the exact same thing. I tried literally everything. Different antibiotics, topical treatments, the natural route by working with a naturopath… it was exhausting and draining. Literally all I could think about was my skin. After years of avoiding it, because I was worried about the mental health side effects, I started accutane. Honestly best decision I have ever made! I think I was on it for 6-8 months and the only side effects I had were dry hair (took a long time to get greasy… which was kinda a perk) and dry lips and nostrils (which were not noticeable to anyone but me). I purged for probably 2 months and now my skin is fantastic. I get the odd pimple here and there but nothing like before. I found accutane improved my mental health because I felt so much less self conscious. I had to take birth control while I was on it but now am completely off- which also made major changes in improving my mental health. Food for thought ❤ feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

You’re not alone ❤ totally feel you! I was on the pill for years, stopped it a few years ago as I was trying to heal from anxiety and depression. We used condoms for a while (but hated it) and finally I decided I need another option that is not hormonal. I got the copper iud, and it definitely has made my periods a bit more painful, but nothing I can’t take. I never had acne growing up but once I stopped taking the pill it came and it has not gone anywhere in the past 4-5 years. I’ve given up and just decided to accept my defeat with it. But I definitely do struggle with it, for example I recently started in a fancy corporate job and sometimes I feel like I’m a teenager with my acne amongst all the professional adults and feel so insecure and out of place. But I feel like this is the least bad of all options available. Also I know this comment is late (trying to catch up on my KZbin), and I hope you’ve already found a solution or feel better anyways. Still wanted to type this out in case you see it - just to remind you that you’re not alone and not knowing what’s best for you can be so overwhelming. Love you girl, thank you for your honesty ❤

Carter, my girl, you are the expert of your own experience. No doctor has lived in your body and knows it like you do. I’ve had every kind of acne you can think of. The people that judge you for something that is out of your control can gtfo. Don’t let those people dictate what you think of yourself. You can hypothesize about every possible next step and everything that can go wrong, but the truth is everything is figuroutable and you know what is best for your damn self. Thank you for your transparency, the internet needs more of this. Talk to Matt, your mom, your friends, the people you trust to look for guidance. Good job in practicing self kindness. That’s the best thing you can do when your in distress. Anyway. I hope you have a blast at Disney, let loose, let go, enjoy yourself. And remember acne is the least interesting thing about you. You are lovely and give so much of yourself to the world and this community. Anyway! Long enough comment! Wishing you the bestest. ❤

Thanks for sharing this!! I have acne prone skin and have been battling it for almost 10 years now. Hormonal birth control and spironolactone did help my acne, but at great cost to my personal health. I recently started esthetician school and the more I learn about acne, the less I trust dermatologists who just want to prescribe something and send you home. With proper home care and an acne certified esthetician I definitely have started seeing results. The purge sucks but knowing there is an end in sight gives me hope. If you’re interested, I recommend looking up the brand “face reality” and trying to find an esthetician near you to speak to you more about results driven skin care. I know how hard this battle can be but trust your body and stay positive 💜

Im only about a third of the way through your video but I wanted to stop and make a comment, especially since you were asking for them in the comment section. Im about 10 years older than you and a mom and I struggled hard with infertility. I wanted to share that I think that its wonderful for you to have these hard open and honest conversations - its necessary for any age really. I am super pro - birth control, I believe that we should choose if or when we have children and with whom. I am also super frustrated at our state of current birth control and the lack of education around it as you mentioned. There can be really harsh side effects and taken long term can impact everything from fertility later to how your body handles scaring and clotting. We really don't have a handle on stopping pregnancy or even managing symptoms from a large and varied list of reproductive organ complications such as pcos or fibroids. I also want to say as a mom and about older sister age - you can be BOTH pro-birth control and be off of it for any number of reasons beyond wanting to have children. That doesn't mean you are disappoint anyone and honestly Carter, you owe no one an explanation. Just "thank you for your concern but this is what is best for me and my partner right now". Taking a break to take ahold of your mental health and look through other options isn't cowardly and it isn't being a bad "pro - birth control woman" or birth control advocate. It makes you human and if people take issue they can just sod off.

I have been on birth control for 10 years now. I was on a generic pill until I was 21 and then I got the arm implant and it was horrible for me. It was so terrible, but it worked super well for my friend. So at 24 I got the arm implant out and I went on an IUD. I have Myreena and I love it. I have been dealing with acne since I was about 10. I had hormonal acne as a teen and once I started my arm implant birth control and I got very painful cystic acne. So I made the decision to go on Accutane and, yes it really helped, but it took the biggest toll on my mental health, my physical health, and my relationship at the time. I have not had cystic acne since taking Accutane, but it's an INTENSE acne medication. I had multiple discussions with my dermatologist and my OBGYN about it. I actually made them talk to each other as well. I stopped taking Accutane at age 23. IA few years ago I found out I was allergic to red meat, so I stopped eating it and I limited my pork intake, just as a precaution. I also found out I have a sensitivity to dairy so I limited my dairy intake and I found out I have an allergy to alcohol. So I stopped drinking as well. I will say - all of those cuts from my diet along with a new birth control (my IUD) changed my skin so much. My skin is so much better now. Idk if I was my diet, with sensitivities I'm sure it was, or my IUD but I have not cried about acne in almost two years now. In my early 20s, I had depression and had horrible hormone imbalances to where I couldn't keep my emotions in check, and I went to anger management because I couldn't control my anger. It was really scary for me, I didn't like how I was changing, and I felt like I couldn't get a handle on anything. I am now 28, I have some blackheads and acne scars and I finally feel in control of my skin and my emotions. I am not sure if it's from the IUD or the fact I really pay attention to my body, but it's been a rough 18 years of dealing with acne and hormone imbalances. My hormones are still technically imbalanced due to my hormonal birth control, but I feel very much like me, my authentic me. I'm also still just coming into who I am. Complete side bar: my best friend makes her own magic erasers because you can get all of the ingredients in it.

My face broke out on my cheeks & chin sooo bad in the beginning of 2022. I tried medicines, creams, diet.. nothing helped. I finally decided to do Accutane and it took everything away. It was a hard decision but I’m happy I did. My wedding was booked for Dec of 2022 so I needed it to work, thankful it did. Hi Carter, I was on Tri-Sprintec for ~3 years. It worked great at first but as I developed and changed, it suddenly made my mental state horrible. I have always had anxiety but I started to experience physical symptoms such as vomiting, fainting, and panic attacks due to anxiety. I also ended up experience a very traumatic mental health event which is ultimately when I decided to quit it cold turkey. since then, my mental state has improved drastically. I still struggle but not at the high level that I was. However, I did experience pretty awful under-the-skin acne. My derm. Also prescribed Tretinoin and it didn’t really do much good for me. I decided to quit Tretinoin and ended up going on Virelle birth control, and I have had an awesome experience on Virelle so far. The only negative symptom I experience is nausea, which I am willing to deal with considering I have no acne now and none of the negative mental side effects I had on Tri Sprintec.

Horrified that Yaz still exists. I took it back in 2005 for 8 months until I absolutely couldn't stand it anymore, tried a lower dose pill a few years later and felt absolutely unhinged. I have PMDD and found it just made every symptom much worse. I am in my late 30s now and just track my cycle for a bit over a decade and that seems to work fine for my partner and me(he's planning on a vasectomy soon since we live in a female-hostile state in the US) . I hope you find the option that works best for you and that you start to feel more like yourself soon. You're definitely not alone. ❤

I don’t have much advice because my problems with acne were the complete opposite. BC helped my acne along side a consistent skincare routine. Every time I tried getting off of it my acne would flare up in the same spots on my chin. But also it regulated my periods so I know exactly which day each month my period comes. I know A LOT of people rave about the book In the Flo by Alisa Vitti. Talks about your period in so much depth. I know every one say it and I’m sure you’re tired of hearing it, but it will get better ❤️

The best advice I can give you is… listen to your intuition. Seriously. Who cares if you’ve been a huge advocate for birth control. Your life is changing and you need to make changes. Do not ignore your gut feelings. I did when younger and I got myself into a lot of trouble because of it. Trust me… I’m 47 and been around the block. You are the one that knows you best. Believe in yourself.

Carter!!! I am so so sorry that you’re going through this and struggling. As I watch your videos and see how clear your face is other than your chin, I can’t help but wonder if this is perioral dermatitis and not acne? It has a totally different treatment plan than acne, but I had a really similar appearance of inflamed pustules/bumps along with flakiness isolated to my chin and my derm treated me for perioral dermatitis. It’s very common among women our age and can be triggered randomly and hard to get rid of without the right topicals. You may have already considered this with your derm but if not, I wanted to let you know that it exists and is not commonly talked about. You’re so strong, and we all love you 💕

Update: Carter confirmed with her docs that it is in fact hormonal acne so my comment doesn’t apply to her, but definitely recommend reading up on perioral dermatitis for others struggling with a facial rash/bumps/flakes that just won’t go away 💕

You are not alone. So many women have similar journeys. I have been through almost everything you've described. The solution that has seemed to work for me is a IUD - Mirena (no periods!) and taking 50mg daily of Spironolactone. I will get the occasional blemish, but my hormonal deep cystic type acne all around my chin has gone completely away. It took me asking my doctor over and over for more options and doing research on my own to get to this place. I would do hormonal testing and all of my levels were normal. It never made any sense what the root cause was, so I just trusted my doctor and this combo has ben working for me for several years now. Hang in there girl. Hormones and women are just such a battle!

My body HATES birth control. It makes my emotions go crazy and I just physically feel unwell. It didn't get better until I got off the pill and my partner started using condoms instead. We're not trying to have kids so he eventually had a vasectomy but obviously that's not a good suggestion if you are eventually wanting to have kids. I mostly wanted to say that I feel you on bc making your body and emotions go haywire. It truly sucks to not feel like you are in control or have a choice. I'm sorry that you are going through this, you aren't alone. I hope you find a path that brings you some peace soon. 💚

Thank you for being so raw and honest with us about what you are going through. What I would recommend it that you stay on your current birth control BUT make a plan for getting off it at the end of your next cycle. You should start supplementing with those nutrients you know birth control depletes the body of. I know there are protocols out there you can follow on how to stop taking birth control and detox your body. You need that! And also, just know that tracking your cycle to prevent a pregnancy is easier than it sounds. It's scary at first but it will also give you some control back over your body!

I’ve had a very similar struggle with acne since my teen years. I’ve tried topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics, birth control, and spironolactone. Nothing ever seemed to work. Every option seemed to be a bandaid solution for me. I ended up going on accutane after years of not wanting to and that ended up working for me. Accutane is really hard on your body and I found I needed to be really in tune with my body’s needs while I was taking it. It’s really hard as a woman to get the best medical care because there seems to not be great treatment options for us. Acne is a struggle and I really understand what you’re going through. The whole birth control option is another struggle I deal with as well and it is very frustrating. I deal with ovarian cysts and doctors tell me the only option to treat them is going on the pill (which also seems like a bandaid if you ask me). There seems to be a hole in medical solutions for women and I really feel for what you’re going through. If going off birth control is the right decision at this time for you, then do it. If you change your mind on it, that’s ok too. All the love to you Carter! My thoughts are with you ❤

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. When I started birth control I went to the hardest, toughest time in my life. My depression got to a point that I could not be left alone for fear of what I would do to myself. I tried so many different hormonal birth controls... I felt horrible in all of them (in different ways). I would recommend talking to your partner and try to switch to natural birth controls and using condoms all the time. Thats what my boyfriend and I have been doing for the past two years and my mental health is so much better. You are not alone, and I understand the wanting of throwing thigs at the wall. I remember I used to punch myself in the face all the time. Almost broke my nose 2 times.

I stopped because my husband and I were ready to grow our family, but natural family planning works for preventing pregnancy as well! I have been on generic Yasmin (Syeda) for almost 20 years and I never looked into the side effects, it bothers/scares me that many health issues I have experienced could be because of it. I had a breast lump when I was 16 (breast lumps is a side effect) that had to be removed, and last year I had to get an emergency gallbladder removal because of extreme pain I was getting in my side. Not to mention my mood swings are scary, I become ridiculously angry and out of control from the smallest things. I always attributed it to bipolar disorder but what if it was the birth control all along? I feel stupid for not looking into these issues sooner...you're not alone Carter! I hope things get better for you soon!

I was in a similiar place to you with the acne and birth control about 2-3 years ago. I was recommended to do many different things, different meds, try a higher dose of birth control etc. I eventually was just “done” and stopped everything. I would say for 3 months I was a bit more “hormonal” and had some more acne than I typically did when on the pill, but after that everything just kind of stabilized and my mood is so much better and my acne is minor and I can usually tell the reason for it quickly based on diet/ time of the month. I was on birth control for almost 10 years, it was so so scary getting off of it, so I can relate to you there. Like you said, it was just time to be done. I wish you the best in this! You’ll choose the right option for you, because you’ll know in your gut what’s best. 😊

Hey Carter! I just wanted to say that you are beautiful no matter what and you will not disappoint anyone if you decide to take a break and come off birth control. I was on birth control for a short period of time for my acne and felt similar to you, angry, sad not like myself at all, so you're not alone! Personally, I would listen to the naturopath and try a more holistic approach because I think it will address the hormone imbalance in a more subtle but head-on way rather than put a band-aid on it. Taking a break from birth control will probably help your body reset as well. I hope this helps to reassure you that you are not alone and that no one will be offended by you making decisions that will benefit your health and well-being. Hey Carter, I have so much empathy for your situation. I went through (and am still going through) a very similar situation myself. My skin was perfect all throughout my youth, but I was on the pill. I would constantly get migraines, and it turns out that I should have never been on that pill and my doctor was negligent because that meant my risk for blood clots was way higher than it should have been. I quit the pill cold turkey, and went to a copper IUD. I felt like an absolute crazy person throughout this transtition, and my skin FREAKED out. I also went on Tret at around the same time, so I totally get where you're coming from - like is this the BC, or the Tret?! How long do I stick it out?! It's been almost two years, and I'm now settling into a new routine. It takes a long ass time, and I'm sorry that you're going through this. There is such a lack of empathy and knowledge for women struggling with BC options. I feel like I had no option but to do my own research, which I was obviously not equipped to do! Anyways, I'm following your journey and it's nice to know I'm not alone.

After I was diagnosed with endometriosis I was really looking for some clarity and answers because it's not normal for a 28 yr old to struggle with a chronic disease and being told your only solution is laparoscopy and taking a pill for the rest of your life. I also had acne and bad cramps since I was a teenager, mood swings.. don't give up in your search for clarity 🙏💙and no you're not the only one going through what you're going through ✨ also when I don't take care of my sleep for more than 3 nights in a row I become super frustrated with everything as if the world is collapsing..

I had one more thought-- sometimes there are online groups or forums where women post similar concerns about birth control, seasonal depression, anxiety, etc. I love reading some of the posts because then I don't feel alone!!

I feel a lot of this in my soul. Especially with what you are going through and how much you love to read- I HIGHLY recommend "Woman Code" by Alisa Vitti and "In the FLO: Unlock Your Hormonal Advantage and Revolutionize Your Life" by Alisa Vitti. I got off birth control after 10 YEARS because doctors didn't know how to deal with hormonal cysts and hormonal cystic acne. I rarely rarely get acne now (and when I do, it's usually because I threw off my own damn hormones with a caffeine coca cola binge). I feel so much more level and just genuinely healthy.

Sending you a virtual hug! Your rawness reminds me of myself when I was younger. Finding the right birth control for me was quite frankly a bitch. All of the hormones, sadness, anger, and just a rather big rollercoaster can be so dang overwhelming. I ended up finding the right pill for me (pre-tubal litigation- no more babies for me), but it took trying out so many different kinds. I had to try multiple pills and after our first kiddo I tried the Mirana and the Depo before deciding to stick with the pill. I hope you find the right option for you and your body. You're such a beautiful soul and the world needs more vulnerability on touchy subjects. Birth control doesn't work for everyone and can make such an impact on our hormones and make us feel crazy (That's how I felt lol- not saying you do). You're doing amazing things!

I’m glad you’re open to suggestions that’s brave! I’ve been researching hormones and the entire cycle for years now. I think that this will be a continuous problem no matter what BC you’re on because they all impact your hormones. Even though there will be a reset and healing period once you stop there will be a bright bright light at the end of the tunnel. Me and my bf have been using natural family planning for 6 years. I would suggest tracking your cycle and basil body temp. I’ve been thinking about using temp drop to make that easier. Also focusing on using food and minerals to balance your hormones before and during getting off the BC. I wish you the best and I suggest reading in the flo and looking into working with a cycle/ hormone coach there’s lots of awesome girlies out there!!!

Wow okay I'm glad to hear you've done the NFP for awhile with success- truthfully I'm terrified to do so because I've always been able to rely on BC to ensure I don't get pregnant (even though its not 100% successful) but the more I hear good things abut tracking your cycle the more I'm wiling to try- that and of course backup methods of protection!

I am not telling you what to do at all I just want to share my experience with you because it may be helpful. I had the same issues on the pill, I was sooo angry and very reactive. The highs were very high and shorter time spans and the lows we’ve very low. I decided to stop taking the pill and it took a few month to regulate my hormones, trying to eat less white carbs and sugars and lessen my caffeine intake before I noticed a difference and my blood work came back more regular.

I also wanted to add that it took a few months for my pimples to go away. I also experienced hair loss. I still get acne on my body a week before and after my period but it’s a lot more manageable if that’s the right word.

Hahaha, another comment because I have so much to say. You can be advocate and supporter but not also have that specific thing work for you. For example I am pro choice but I have never been in a situation to need an abortion. Just some food for though. Be kind to yourself ❤

@@CarterSullivan I really appreciate that. The stigma around having an open conversation on the topic is a little ridiculous imo. I support one's decision on what they want to do regarding forms of BC or purely not wanting to partake, but it's really important like you say to create a safe and inviting conversation around the topic. I really love the community and vibe you've created with your channel, because not many bring this approach to social media.

I have the same acne. I quit tretinoin. Stopped taking birth control because it made me feel crazy. Started taking a probiotic... It helps but I obviously still have acne. I'm 28 and over it

Birth control was the worst thing to happen to my mental health and likely physically to. It’s unnatural and it messes up our body’s systems not just reproductive. I’ve felt better since but I say this in all seriousness it changed my brain’s chemistry, it made me more irritable for sure!

I had the Mirena IUD for three years. I just had to get it taken out due to intractable pain that was very severe. I suffer from being overweight, I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I have elevated liver function. I am currently on YASMIN generic. What I would recommend is to make sure you are doing your lab tests as standard and have them do extensive lab testing to test your hormonal levels. Not every birth control will work for everyone. It is all trial and error. I like Yasmin for the reasoning for having a period. I do have a partner and I would constantly test for pregnancy as I was worried since with my IUD I did not have a period. I have been on it for two months and had my first period this week.

Sadly at least in Canada doctors do not do hormonal testing 😅 You either stay on the pill or change, they won't order much lab work to see how its going!

I have a copper IUD because I never did well on hormones, and I've had it for 5 years now with no issues other than a bit More cramping during my periods for the first maybe two years. I would highly recommend it and I think it's a lot better than dealing with all these issues from hormones

I don't doubt that copper IUDS are great! I just personally don't feel like having another IUD is for me! While for the most part, I enjoyed having mine, ultimately, the thought of having that inside me really freaked me out😂
