Nah it falls under isekai, like a sub-genre within a sub-genre. Arnos reincarnates into a new body in a future so drastically different that you could call it a new world. Unless you consider “reincarnation” to be its own genre in which case I would argue that isekai and reincarnation are essentially the same genre. Then there’s the whole going back in time to a different age genre. Maybe we should just call it “reincarnation”

I think there’s a strong argument to be made that this show is a comedy. Not just that it’s lighthearted and jokey like a lot of isekai, but intentionally a comedy first and an action show second. If you watch like it’s a parody played straight a lot of stuff makes more sense as writing choices. Like having him get killed, and just appear behind him like “you think killing me will make me die.” Or move in stopped time because “do you think stopping time is enough to stop me?” In the fight with the old man, the old man dodges Anos’ attack but his legs get cut off anyway because “did you think dodging was enough to avoid my attack?” Having his fan club literally sing his fight song, the fact that he’s usually explaining the magic to the other people rather than the other way around, the basketball spinning a castle. It all tracks as a parody that’s maybe trying to not fully admit it’s a parody like konosuba, so it can still market better with people who liked the singing fan club part.

I never got comedy from it. The guy put a plan in motion to create peace. When he reincarnated, he found out people fk'd his plan up. The show is him trying to fix it. His powers aren't comedic, he planned them. He's basically the system admin for demon magic, so he can screw with anyone using it. He's also got his sword that cuts reality. Like a bootleg version of the Reality Stone. Time *did* kill him. He just said "Nope. Cut that."

There are anime out rn where the MC is reincarnated and they dont tag it as isekai, example off the top of my head is oshi no ko. Myanimelist is fairly accurate with tagging anime and they do not tag it as isekai but tag actual isekai anime as such. It tends to bleed over because most isekai are also fantasy/adventure so thats why it may feel like an isekai but the actual world means transported to another world.

Yeah nowadays 11-13 episodes seasons have become the norm when it used to be 26. And so many anime series are just short advertisements for the manga or light novel they're adapted from. Isekai anime are especially guilty of this. What's worse is that even if you switch over to manga or light novel, more than likely the story is still incomplete. I had taken a break from anime and manga after I discovered full colored webcomics (or webtoons) from South Korea and China called manwha and manhua respectively. At first, I was pretty excited and enthusiastic about discovering this new medium, I figured there would be tons of stories that I could enjoy from start to finish in full color and formatted in a way that's ideal for reading on a phone tablet. But I soon realized manwhas/manhuas were plagued with the same issue that turned me away from anime to an even worse degree. It's extremely rare to come across a manwha/manhua in a finished state, they're mainly intended to be advertisements for the webnovels they're adapted from. The only silver lining is that there are a good amount of fully-translated or incomplete but consistently translated webnovels out there. And some webnovels I've read feature some of my favorite stories of all time regardless of the medium, written, visual, or interactive.

I just want to say/type there is a 2nd season. It's been divided into 2 parts like what happened to Season 2 That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. They got 6 episodes of the 1st half done, and They've aired. The problem is apparently multiple people at the animation studio wound up getting Covid. So the rest of Season 2 got delayed until July. On top of that, they're going to basically start it over by airing those 6 episodes then start airing the rest of the season.

I'm the manga version of you, Chavezz, I've read all the Isekais, even though they're trash. It's like eating junk food. And this one was the best, by far, because it's a parody of the genre. It's great for the same reason Eminence In Shadow is great. Because it's funny and doesn't take itself seriously. The worst part about this story is that the mangaka died, so it's forever unfinished. This is all we get. I think it says a lot about how great the manga was that it's unfinished and only has thirty-ish chapters, but they STILL made an anime out of it.
