I saw a picture of the woman attacked by otters and it was pretty bad. But I was surprised how many people were clowning on the situation, not realizing that otters were about that action.

The whole thing with Freya is sad. And what's worse is capturing and relocating her wouldn't have worked since Pinnipeds like seals and walruses have a great sense of direction, as well as being very stubborn. Freya would have likely found her way back anyways
@Demonslayer20111Ай бұрын
Generally speaking animals arent usually the problem. Humans who think that wild animals are cute, and thus not dangerous, are the problem. And when they inevitably get hurt, we for some stupid reason, decide to blame the animal.

I do love Chavezz's commitment to being a professional hater of Raccoons. On a completely unrelated note since Casual briefly mentioned the Dodo and the Great Auk I do want to recommend a video called "Why DODOS Actually Went EXTINCT | Island Biogeography 1" which is the first part of a three part video series from Atlas Pro. It honestly is probably one of the better introductions to Atlas Pro because Island Biogeography comes up a lot in his videos it's kind of his niche thing he talks about a lot.

I’m not from Aus, NZ though so migratory mammals overlap a lot. We get a lot of seals. I promise you it’s not the locals causing the issues with wildlife. It’ll be tourists, admittedly a lot of the time Americans, not understanding that not living in a concrete jungle doesn’t mean this is some sort of Disney safari. I swear councils during the space just before tourism season starts up will start rushing to basically baby-proof nature. Edit: I’m not even being hyperbolic, my city is mostly coastal. A lot of it being resting and hunting grounds for fur seals, little blue penguins and orcas. The shorefront is littered with signs that basically go “yeah look how cute these animals are DONT TOUCH THEM” as well as big colorful distractions to keep tourists away from the animals. Us having shiny, colorful playgrounds and oversized brightly painted lawn chairs in the vicinity of signs that say “stay away from the animals, they don’t need your help or food” is not a coincidence.

Killing animals like Freya is usually about tourism money. Here in Australia the government unfortunately still culls heaps of sharks every year under the guise of "keeping the beaches safe" because reports of shark attacks = fewer tourist wanting to visit. At least that's what they say.....

I always found it so strange when ppl online fawn over river otters like they wouldn't survive camping in Brasil if the first instinct is to approach the animal. I grew up in a rural place near a river and MY WHOLE LIFE I've seen people cancel stuff off they find out and one ate my cat when I was younger, to me if you approach a wild animal you're insane or stupid. With that I dream of the day I can travel to Canada and take a selfie with a bear. I can't run faster but I guess I can hide in a car .
