16:00 You might be surprised. Some of my pet snakes definitely notice when I skip a feeding day, getting more active and "begging" for lack of a better word when they see me pass by. They also can recognize that if they are taken out of their enclosure then they are not being fed (as in the more aggressive ones will stop trying to bite anything that moves in the hope it is the food they expect when the enclosure door opens).

Agreed. Snakes are smarter than they're given credit for. I've target trained my corn snake. She knows that if she doesn't see the target, she's not getting fed. And she knows the difference between me and my husband. If my husband opens the enclosure, she looks out, then goes back into a hide. If I open it, she comes out to visit.

Yeah Snakes aren't quite good enough to do a Cats job but they are still buddies.

Yeah I don’t think they quite understood the point that Tier Zoo was trying to make. You can’t forget that cats bite too. The reason we domesticated cats and not snakes is that when a cat bites it’s just an “ouch” but when a snake bites you can die. And so it just isn’t practical to have snakes running around human settlements like that. You can’t trust them because the stakes are too high not even that they are more aggressive than cats.

Cats do actual care, and a lot. The misconception about cats being uncaring is due to us expecting dog behaviour from cats, wich is obviusly impossible. Cats have their own body language, but we never really bothered to understand it: while basically everybody knows a dog with a wiggly tail is "happy", almost no one knows that a cat with a straight one is the same.

Everyone knows that when a dog licks you, it’s basically a kiss; very few know that the same applies for cats when they blink slowly at you, or look at you then turn away If a cat licks you it’s either because you smell like food or because you smell gross (to them)

Found the cat person lol jk, yeah they just behave differently dogs are easier as a guest to I guess dominate or blend into the pack type mentality, cats are like an individual and like to surprise and play hunt which leads to like stepping on their paws lol and even when you pet them even when they want to play they dig in with those nails lol but yeah they have too much all terrain skills to leave them alone, but their pee and poop smell is wild like crazy wild lol I know they pee to mark territory so its super strong and their owners are always like I clean the cat litter…which does remove the scent a lot but still you can smell when someone has a cat and crazy cat ladies house holy crap lol but I do like them as hunters boy cats > girl cats

All my cats act very dog like. They are all vocal becuase i talk to them Mayhem plays fetch and tug of war Misfit will paw at my face amd squawk at me until i loft the covers and big spoon her And Nova will hunt me down, look me in my eyes meow at me and knock the bin of treats over, Mayhem ran off with a cheeto they BEG and can be very food motivated xD I purr at my cats I havnt been to the bathroom alone in 6 years 😂 they swarm me

I find it interesting how a house cat learns to adapt their strike damage when playing with us. I’ve got a 17-year-old cat who is under the impression she’s a kitten. Loves to play. When she plays with me like grabbing my arm and doing the murder by back feet scrape move, she never leaves a mark. When she gets my attention with a swipe, same deal. But the other day, I was waving a straw at her (she LOVES to kill straws) and she was in murder mode. I moved my hand instead of the straw and she accidentally latched into my finger. Just an absolute needle. She and I were both surprised and she actually got up on the sofa, foregoing the game for a minute to cuddle, which, I’m sorry, was definitely an apology. I’m not anthropomorphizing here. She was absolutely saying, “Dude, my bad. You good?” It makes me feel sorry for their prey. It’s a painful death. We forget because even if a cat swipes us hard enough to leave a mark, they have learned not to go over about ten percent of what they could do.

@@CasualCat64 We had a family cat who made it to 19. My 17-year-old has had some close calls and she’s got kidney disease now, but she’s hanging in there. Still active and full of personality. I feel very very lucky.

A cat's meow is the exact same tone as a human baby's cry. Whether they evolved to be cute to us in that way or we bred them in that direction is a question with an answer lost to the ages.

I think evolved to be cute, because adult cats living in a feral cat society don’t “meow” much to each other as adult cats living with humans do. They KNOW it gets a reaction out of us.

Cats care. They just show it in different ways since they aren't humans or dogs. The key is to look at their body language, especially their tail. If its straight up, they're happy to see you. If it's hooked at the tip, they're really happy to see you. Tail up and quivering is around the equivalent of dogs bouncing around you in excitement of seeing you. But if a tail is bushed out, the cat is scared. And if a cat rubs their face against you, they are claiming you as their close friend or even kin. Their face and tail has scent glands on them, so they have accepted you into their circle. And ultimate signs of love and affection are the slow blink (which you can do back to them, works even with big cats) and having their belly (where their vital organs are) exposed. By the way, cats likely see you as another cat, so you may have to think of things like them. For instance, if your cat keeps bringing in dead animals, they're trying to feed you or teach you how to hunt. When you think about it from their point of view we leave the den to hunt for half the day and then come back with no prey, we must really suck at hunting. 😆

They were already cute, look at pictures of the African wildcat. They look almost like tabby cats, but the porportions are different. They're closely related enough that hybridization with domestic cats is a problem for them. For more cuteness see the rusty spotted cat, which is the smallest cat. The black footed cat would be another, it's has the highest hunting success rate of any cat. The sand cat looks almost like it could be a pet.

TierZoo has a bit of a mistake when it comes to his segment on carnassial teeth in this video. He shows the skull of a sabretooth and a sabretooth killing a horse, but this makes it seem like carnassial teeth are at the front of the animal's jaws, when they are actually at the back. I think they're positioned directly behind the molars, but if I'm wrong then someone please feel free to correct me. But what carnassial teeth do is they're basically a pair of scissors or shears: Their sole purpose is to cut meat.

@@mrcroob8563It's almost like cats are an invasive species and don't even belong there in the first place. They don't need to be inside 24/7 (tho they're perfectly fine doing so), you can take them on walks, supervised outside time or have a catio. If I see a pet being attacked by a coyote I will do something if that's throwing rocks, making loud noises, or shooting at it. But I'm less inclined to save a cat as they're disrupting the natural ecosystem because they hunt for fun and their owners need a reality check to start being more responsible with their animals. Honestly you should check out how Australia is dealing with their feral cat population, because they're treating them like vermin/pest and I can't help but agree with them. As if you throw aside the notion of "pets" and look at them the same way we view all other predators if that's coyotes, alligators, pythons, raccoons, boars, etc they're not any different.

Haven’t you ever heard the term natural selection? If a species goes extinct because they can’t keep up with a new threat, that’s just natural selection at work. We can’t expect all the species that exist right now to last forever, the ones that adapt will live on, and those that can’t will die. It’s literally nature.

Cats are actualy not that smart. They see humans as bigger, weird looking, hairless cats that take care of them and "hunt" their food every day. When you feed a cat, they think you just went out to hunt for food and won the fight, whitch is why they respect you, even if they don't like you. Reptiles are even less intelegent but they can still notice that when they see you, they get food. They can also realize when you are there to to be friendly with them and that you are not a threat :) Hope my rambeling helped you understand lol.
