So I picked up a cheap 10.1" Android Touch Screen Car Stereo but is it any good? how does it perform? and most importantly can we run emulators on it? In this video, we test this $125 Android car radio head unit out. this one also came with a backup camera! They go by many names like Hikity Double Din Android Car Stereo, Binize 10.1 Inch Double Din Android 9.1 Car Stereo and many more.

It's posts like this that strengthen my resolve to get an ITX-compatible double-DIN chassis to put a Seeed Odyssey or similar into. You can get adapters that allow the computer to read CANBUS messages from steering wheel controls, a great selection of GPS pucks to choose from, and built-in wireless which won't be restricted to 2.5G speeds. Couple that with BT for mini keyboards with touchpads, and that's a winning combo. Thanks for the insightful and well-rounded video, always a treat!

Something like this would make a good smart home in-wall display. With decent in-wall speakers and the backup camera connected to a camera covering your front door, it would be better than the usual mounting an android tablet to your wall. Plus the connections are on the back so the wiring would be hidden.

Picking a android headunit really depends on your expectations & use. If your going to interact with it a lot and utilize many of the features spending the extra money is definitely worth it. For me my purpose was bluetooth, backup camera and the ability to listen to my music collection from a usb drive. I never really connect it to the internet, android auto works fine w/ pandora & maps. It is 1gb ram and 16gb storage which I would not recommend but again for me its a media player w/ the media built it so the specs aren't an issue.

If you can get a double-din dash panel I used a KKmoon K5980 in my old Jeep and Android Auto worked wonders. The only thing to be aware of is the length of the USB cable; The stock cable from the head unit is about 6 feet, which is great if you need it to reach the side of the dash but if you're putting it closer I would suggest shortening the cable if you can, or limit the amount of extensions/adapters used. I had my stock cable plugged into a short 6-inch panel mount extension so it would look clean. But, that limited me to only being able to use USB cables 12" or under. It ended up not being a problem for me as there was a pocket to store my phone right there, but it is something to be aware of.

I'd be interested to see how this holds up more long term. That's always my fear with these products and the heat I have in my state. Car manufacturers spend hundreds of thousands testing internal electronics and screens to be sure they can hold up to the extremes of vehicle vibration/heat and I have a feeling these manufacturers do not. Even with the investment, some OEMs have faults like the Tesla screen issue or bmw/Lexus screen issues come to mind in recent history.

Well for what it's worth, I've had an even older Android radio from out of China I installed into my blazer four years ago and it worked surprisingly well in the high humid heat of KY. In winter though when it got really cold, around 20 degrees or lower the screen capacitive touch was very finicky until the heater got temps back up. But the apps themselves worked just fine. I finally updated the radio simply because the only real downfall to many of these is getting updates on these is almost non existent unless you get one from a very well known company that is known to support their android radios with software/firmware updates and they usually cost a bit more for it. I don't think car manufacturers themselves are testing it like you say unless they are making the devices in house. But whoever the manufacturer is for the device before it reaches the car manufacturer indeed has prior and I can almost guarantee that most of your factory radios is made of parts from China too. 🤷

Correct if you have a stock sound system these are.... Ok at best. If on the other hand you have a factory upgraded sound system with amps and subs, or even worse a custom setup, these typically output a trash signal for your amps, which in turn boost the already garbage signal to your nice/expensive woofers/tweeters. Put one in my 1996 Plymouth Voyager (factory radio failed), 1964 Valiant, and 1965 Dart with backup camera in all ($100 total). Doesn't seem powerful enough to run Android Auto, at least I haven't been able to load it, even with "Head Unit Reloaded" app. But Phone-Mirror is supposed to work (haven't tried). For GPS, it seems you need a wireless connection to download your current location. Other than for a radio, for me it is best to put the smart phone screen on the dash, especially for GPS. I used it in my 1960's cars because standard DIN radios won't fit without hacking a big hole in the metal dash. This box is thin enough to not stick out far from the dash and required not molesting the dash (just ran bolts thru the radio knob cutouts to secure the mounting plates.

Back it 2007 I bought a 2005 F-150 and put in a cheap from china in dash DVD player/stereo which was all the rage at the time. Mine however had all sorts of extra features that played mp3s and videos off basically any media you could plug into a usb. Was 200$ at the time and comparable options at best buy were 1500$ . I'd get this in a second!@! thanks!

I just installed an A-sure K42-W7-101, the functions are fine for what I want but the icons down the left hand side let this unit down. The power on / off button is unresponsive until it's tapped about 10-15 times, same goes with the volume icons. I paid just under £100 so don't know if the problem is that it's cheap and unreliable, or if it has a problem with responding, calibrating the screen didn't work so going to do the factory reset to try and resolve it.

Works great as a car stereo audio video player , better than my 8 hundred dollar alpine . I CAN PLAY ANY MUSIC VIDEO OR MOVIE I WANT TO FROM USB STICK. LOADED APK THAT HAS BUILT IN 10 BAND EQ. The preloaded map navigation works great and is very fast. SOUND QUALITY IS SUPERB WITH MY EPICENTER AND ORION HCCA AMPS. I WILL NEVER USE ANYTHING LESS THAN ANDROID CAR STEREO . P.S. As with anything this is the beginning of the next generation of radio units and it will get better. You can't expect an iPad performance from a $100.00 system. Look at the bright side you can download spotify, Sirius xm without a Sirius xm receiver unit, KZbin, Netflix and Prime, Waze, Google Maps, etc. Now since when could you get those in a radio?

I ordered one in the same housing, I'll be seeing how long it takes or if it even ships. It's got a UIS7862 SoC 8-cores, 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage, 720p 10.1" QLED display. It cost around $325 US and very close to $400 shipped, not gonna be playing games on it but hopefully it'll do turn-by-turn GPS navigation and Spotify while being buttery smooth.

Plenty of older cars had the HU on the lower side of the dashboard, near the gear lever. Now while it's not much an issue for tactile style HU, having what is practically a tablet in such position will take away your view on the road (not to mention having to fiddle around with settings, changing radio stations, etc) and simply taking your eyes away for a split second while doing highway speed is very dangerous. So for these kinda car with HU on the lower side, just get a quality 1DIN HU with Bluetooth function

A lot of them do have the Canbus connection control, so that you can use the controls on your steering wheel. I bought an Android 10 something like this, with the basic reasons of wanting to play USB's in my Mazda 2012, along with playing my mini discs, I can also connect. I do use DAB+ as well via the app, with additional box purchased. All other options on the device are a bonus really, but don't really use Bluetooth as have a separate device for that, and phone for my navigation. Not much more powerful than this one, but suites me fine..

I have thought about one of these to replace the scion navigation unit I have. My unit needs a $100 DVD from the dealer to upgrade maps, and because of where I live I can never get accurate results because it is spread across 3 regions that load up separately. What also makes an Android HU so appealing is the torque app, but you need a legit OBD Bluetooth scanner for best results.

@@bepbep7418 I have used them too, but from my understanding the polling rate is better on legit ones plus other stuff. Elm 327 sent their stuff to China for production which got copied. Elm 327 knock offs spoof higher revisions, but are all basically version 1.0. If you use the torque app with their custom gauges then you will want it to poll OBD II data as fast as possible.

How does the sound compare to a good ordinary head unit, i would be interested in seeing more videos like this, back in 2017 i bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla, i gave much thought in to weather to get a thing like this, or go with some thing more traditional, some thing i noticed at the time, touch screen stereos give little information on the amp, well what do we have smart phones for, i dont need a tv screen in my dash, i got a jvc head unit and apart from dab being hit and miss, it looks and works great and was an improvement in sound and convenience over the factory unit.
