yes, I tried these and came to the same conclusion, so they were relegated to the bathroom where they do well on sinks and shower doors. one application to use as a throw-away item is to use them to clean and decontaminate wheel arches, very effective! any thoughts?

Why don't they make clay cloths/mitts with a white/light coloured claying surface so you have some chance of assessing the level of contamination embedded in it after use?

This video has come at a good time. Looking to do a decontamination soon but haven't got the time to go over a whole car with a small piece of clay bar and excessive use of lubricant spray. A clay mitt dunked in car shampoo just seems to save a lot of hassle. Looking forward to the next video!

To be honest, after trialling the cheap Chinese clay bars, I can only guess how "good" the cloth is. I normally use Meguire's clay bar, which works very well but did try the cheap "blue" bars off eBay - it made absolutely no difference at all and was totally useless. It was very much like children's modelling clay (AKA Plasticine)

I have used a few of these cheap China clay cloths, they sort of ok work once, then after storing them a short while the rubber starts going gooey to the point of being unusable. I don’t think there is a hell of s lot of R&D gone into the rubber compound.

You have to understand that there are good and less good manufacturers of clay products in China just as there are good and less good manufacturers of products in, for example, Europe. I have purchased my Clay products, ranging from plain clay to clay cloth, clay Mitt etc. from a manufacturer that supplies one of the most famous brands. The price is about 1/3 against what the known brand charge. Buying the cheapest clay cloth and then saying that everyone from China is bad is not fair. By the way, are not all these clay products made in China?

hey deje, I didnt say that everything from china was bad. In fact I specifically said the exact opposite of that. there are some manufacturers who supply to a lot of brands here that make very good quality products (I said something like that). A lot of the clay cloths and clay bars come from china but not all. Im pretty sure I know who is making the 2.99 ebay one.

Hi John, Unfortunately, people think that when you make such a comparison, read the comments, everything from China is bad now. Instead, try a product from one of the manufacturers that supplies several well-known retailers with clay products, I'm sure you know who they are.

I recently purchased an Optimum clay towel and aft 1 use it’s starting to split in a few places where I had folded it over, need to look for a “made in” stamp but I threw the packaging away...would help to know Which clay products u endorse and have experience with. Not about to pay 50+$ for one when Something Similar sells for less than Half that. Ty

How do you store it after use? Will it crack when store dry? Can i store in a container and soak with clean water inside?

great question.. dont fold the clay side over on itself or it will stick togther. try and keep it flat. if you have to fold it fold it once on the microfiber facing edge. and store it somewhere dust free and dry. you can get a nice big flat tupperware case for it.

the finest one I like to use is the AM clay. very soft fine clay. bilt hamber soft is similiar in terms of agression but the clay itself is a bit stiffer.

I’d be very interested to here your thoughts on cheap wash mitts there’s a blue version to the gtechniq style ones on eBay for about £2.50 that are from China

some of them chinese ones that are really cheap ,but look like the gtech or micro madness, are a bit wirey... so very high polyster. they are ok for the money and usable but i dont think the quality is there. you will struggle to beat that microfiber madness one. Ive used my incredpadd a ton and its held up so well...

Forensic Detailing Channel the one I’ve got seems to work fantastic but I’ve never had a more expensive mitt as of yet and I’m going to attempt my first time polishing and am thinking once it’s been polished would it be better to buy a more expensive mitt or will the cheat on be just as good (I just want to reduce swirls as much as possible)

I think finding a mitt that works for you and you are confident in is really important and we all have our own thoughts on format, pad or mitt, lambswool, noodle, microfiber, synthetic wool etc.. but the best 3 Ive found are the carpro mitt the dooka wash pad the incredipad from microfiber madness (the small pad version)

Well, I just thought those pads visible on the left in the background at around 7:00 were all from Sonax. Those have pretty unique packaging and colors (especially the green and the red - they're far more deep/dark green and red than any other manufacturer's pads I know of). But then I guess I was wrong, and they're from a different manufacturer. Anyway, Sonax pads are listed for ex here: www.sonax.com/content/search?SearchText=polish+pad . I'm not sure whether they're also available in the UK though.

im always trying to mate. I was over 19 and half stone so Ive been trying to swim a bit and play some tennis and run a bit. Im down to about 18st 7 now. probably need to drop another couple of stone but will just chug along slowly and try and hopefully get to 17 something.

As with many things, cheap low quality copies from China flooding the market are often the first experience, and almost always the last they have with many things. They then pigeon hole all similar products, after being put off due to poor performance. Happy to pay up for high end waxes and polish, yet think its ok (maybe) to save a little on what is often the key stage. We all know, you get what you pay for, but we still try it on from time to time. I will tell anyone that asks, I was sceptical when I was first introduced to the concept of a clay cloth, would I go back to a bar? Not on your life! And the only one I would recommend would be one from www.theclayclothcompany.co.uk I have one that's coming up on 4 years old, its still doing its thing. If you've been put off clay cloths after trying a cheap one, try the real thing, trust me, you will never look back.
