I switched from claybars to nanoskin decontaminations sponges 7 years ago and never looked back. The way I do it now is to clay and wash at the same time. So I start with the pre-wash with a degreaser in the snow foam cannon, then pressure wash, do the fall out remover, pressure wash, wash with ONR and clay with the sponge while the panel is still wet, then dry the panel. Doing it this way adds maybe 15 minutes to the washing step, it's really, really fast. I normally use the fine sponge unless I notice heavy contamination. Sponges won't remove as much as claybars, but they don't scratch as much either and they save you a ton of time.

Good video Jon! Thanks. I do things a little differently personally, but its horses for courses i guess. I put my clay in a jug of hot water to soften it first. Much much more malleable then and much less likely to marr the paint I've found. I also don't use clay lube either. I use Garage Therapy Zero decon as a contact wash but also as a pre-wash snow foam. I'll then use what's left over in my cannon and bucket as my clay lube as I work my way around the car. I just find it has brilliant lubricity and the added surfactants just seem to make the claying process even more effective for me. Plus the car has then had, effectively, three hits with the zero decon. There's always a lot less contamination left meaning I don't need as much clay. Lol.

cleanser fluid is used to remove trace elemtns of grease or and wax or silicone residues. It can also be used to remove and tar films on the car. Think of it as mineral spirit. its hard for me to say if you need it on not. The alternative is a IPA and water based panel wipe.

Using first tar and glue remover might expose rust deposits under the tar... Also tar might contain small particles of asphalt, prone to deep scratching your paint... Personal experience, I prefer to do tar remover prior to cleaning my car, wash my car, dry it, iron remover, rinse it and claying it. So you actually just dry your car twice. Also using an acid shampoo prevent water spotting during claying

This video inspired me. I cleaned both cars and used Korosol and Clay Bar'ed for the first time, before polishing and waxing properly. It took nearly two days and I was so happy. I used so many of your videos for reference. But a week later and both cars have watermarks, tree leaves and sap, and bird poo. What do you recommend for maintaining clean cars because I don't want to have to deep clean every week, but won't a snow foam remove the polish and wax that I added last weekend? Once you've got a clean car, what do you recommend to maintain it? Thanks in advance. :D
@ForensicDetailing3 жыл бұрын
love posts like this Owen. The bad news is no matter what you do the cars get dirty and having fresh protection can mean dried water spots are more noticable. So have some Koch Chemie FSE to remove water spots (make sure car is clean first) dont worry about stripping the wax, LSP is cheap and easy to apply. trust your LSP and reapply when its totally dead in 3-6 months. you can maintain it with detail sprays or nice easy spray and rinse.. but trust the LSP mate.

Never heard of the Korrosol before! Sounds like if it’s turning rusty contaminants purple then it must be similar to Kurust that’s a rust converter… and if it Shri is it that she’s great sense as the clay bar will lift it off easier! At the back of my car is an excessive amount of rust particles on the paintwork from the exhaust. I’d better get some of this stuff pronto! Ps in the video where you use the sponge/ microfibre applicator and take it out of the bucket; is the suds on the car from the Korrosol or is it car shampoo from the bucket you’re working it in with to wash the stuff off? Thanks again!

@ForensicDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Optimum said it leaves nothing behind but if that residue dries I can see it so it must be leaving something behind :) but it seems to wipe away.
@JoshuaLynn2 жыл бұрын
@@ForensicDetailing OPT Talks about this. Yes, if ONR dries on the surface it will leave what they call "Polymer spots" instead of water spots. They wipe away easily usually. If not, a spot more of ONR reactivates the residue for easy wipe-off. This is what makes ONR such a great drying aide. After rinsing off a hand wash a spray down of ONR at 127:1 right away allows for good lubrication of the drying towel and an increased time to dry since it will prevent water spots. The same is true if using ONR as a clay lube at a higher ratio. If it dries, it is easy to sprits a little and wipe off.

I was left Bmw protectx in the boot for free. Safe to say after a proper decontamination process and a light run with da, the results were brilliant! I’ve seen the kits for a tenner online and will probably buy that again.

There's a good way to show how a panel is contaminated - drag your hand on the surface, and listen for that 'sandy' sound. Then compare it to a clayed surface. You can literally hear the difference.

Forget the ONR just use water, especially with Bilt Hamber clay bars

Jon as usual excellent informative video, can i ask though? you advised it might help holding the bar with gloves on but in the video you were bare handed, is that your preference? I can't recall a quick mention about dropping the bar and to bin it straight away, hence it's usually a good idea to split the bar before use into manageable sizes.

hey ian sorry I missed this. Im not too fussed but perhaps with the gloves on the clay is easier to hold but yer Im not overly fussed on that. If you drop it I would bin it.

@@ForensicDetailing Jon, Don't worry about not seeing my comments, with everything you're doing some things will fall by the wayside. Once again keep up the great videos.

@@ForensicDetailing thanks John. would u recommend to machine polish thereafter only or would a hand polish be sufficient?

Can you guide me to a video of the results of polishing a car without coating it? I’m having a hard time convincing my clients that Decon is a necessary step.

you cant polish off contamination mate. this car had been "detailed" without being polished. And the sealed sat on top of black spots and tar.. it was a complete mess.

Quick question! Can I use a fall out remover / tar remover and NOT claybar the car then hand polish and wax the car if I don’t have the time to claybar and machine polish? Thanks for the great content btw always look forward to a new video. Only just found out about your channels in the last month. 👍

chemical decon, makes physical decon easier it does not replace it. short answer is not really callum mate. but some people will wash they car.. dry it and spray it with panel wipe or like BH cleanser fluid (which is a bit like a tar and glue) and then wax it. what I cant tell typing this post is how much contamination is on your car.

@@ForensicDetailing thanks for ur reply and time looks like Iv got a long weekend too come! Lol Iv gone and bought the da8 from in2detailing but scared to use it on my new (to me) car. I struggle with time as I have a 2 year old and no garage to store the car. Thought I could maybe polish/wax the car without causing any damage to the paintwork without claybaring. Thanks again for your time. Top videos! :-)
