The big reason I prefer the ball/spring type is the bleed valve type is basically creating a boost leak ... I found that my boost would come on about 750-1000rpm later with the bleed-valve vs. the ball/spring type. I get boost around 2500 in my Tercel and I love it there ...

Awesome to see mr2 turbo videos! You should do a video on oil catch cans and your opinion on them for this engine as theres quite alot of controversy on the matter,ive read loads but am still undecided on weather to fit one or not! Great vids, subscribed!

What do you mean the ebay ones couldn't move enough air?

Shouldn't there be a one way t-piece for the bleed valves in order to not have a boost leak on the entire system ?

Also, it could have been worth adding that for rev 2 models, the fuel cut kicks in over 11psi, a free way to overcome this is to disconnect the vac line to the map sensor, although you lose the integrated boost gauge on the dials....which is crap anyway lol

Great stuff, have you any video on the 4x4 trucks diesel..

I need help understanding what to do with the factory boost solenoid in connection with the mbc. This is on a 2018 malibu 1.5 turbo.

Great vid. Would be nice to compliment it with a Fuel Cut Defender video - otherwise someone new to MR2's will put one of these in, experience their first fuel cut and think they broke their car :) "HALP I CANT BOOST PAST 9PSI AND CAR IS BOGGY"

TheFuzzy Dunlop very good point. I forgot that this car has a fuel cut defender however I don't know where it is lol. I think I found a black box hooked up near the ECU but there were no numbers on it
@layneagain3107 жыл бұрын
That black box is most likely your fuel cut defender. Most of them will have a small screw on the side to adjust how high it will allow the car to boost. This is usually wired into the PIM, VC, and E2 wires at the ECU, or near the boost pressure sensor. It adjusts the voltage signal from the boost pressure sensor to the ECU to prevent the ECU from throwing a fuel cut signal to the COR (Circuit open relay - another black box near the ECU that feeds power to the fuel pump). If I remember correctly stock fuel cut is at 15psi. Most people when they experience their first fuel cut will panic and think they seriously broke something, when all they have to do is disconnect the battery for a couple minutes to clear the ECU check engine codes - but that doesnt solve the problem of why fuel cut was reached in the first place.

that might have been what caused the engine to grenade when i first got it. it hit about 20psi and backfired, then started blowing blue smoke and misfiring. could have been boost cut that caused it to lean out and detonate. good thing it has a forged engine now, but i won't turn up the boost until it has a wideband and a better fuel system.
@layneagain3107 жыл бұрын
Possibly, but a few detonations should have been survivable. Most likely fuel injection wasnt keeping up to that boost level, which then ran lean for a period of time, allowing detonation and therefore a busted ringland. MR2's have a quite narrow stock fuel rail, most people will bore them out or go aftermarket for more fuel to flow through when they are in the 18+ psi range otherwise the injectors can be starved. Wideband is a must for going 17psi plus IMO - nothing gives more information about how well your engine is running than a wideband.

Could some 1 confirm if the " turbosmart" one is the same as kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpuWd2CBaNdlrLM the one in this clip ? Or, is it with a ball/spring?

Nice little video. Nothing wrong with MR2 videos. We should do an Alberta MR2 meet up.
