I just bought this "HDV-201LM" used, off ebay, for $20, came with the microphone and two batteries, of which I had to bend out the contacts on the camera to keep connection to batteries. Its definitely having more issues with video quality than my other cheap camcorders, and its the only one I have with the external battery. This one doesn't have any threads around the lense for attaching a wide angle x39 lense like alot of the other low end camcorders have. I bought it to basically learn about it, ....since I have others, and mine doesn't have a brand name, so I suppose it came directly from china.
@NorthernWolf9105 жыл бұрын
And, camcorders/video cameras generally are capable of recording video for longer than a maximum of 20-29 minute stints (depending on the brand and age of the camera). My old Kodak (C195... I think) can only record for up to 20 minutes or so before it automatically stops recording, and my much newer Nikon B500 camera can't record video for more than 29 minute stints (regardless of format and any other settings). That gets frustrating sometimes. However, yes, those two cameras are primarily designed to take pictures, not video. *By the way, thank you for the great video!*

I don’t know if you’ll see this 4 years later, but I really believe it can be very close or as good as higher-up cameras as long as you have quality/audio editing knowledge, preferably in editing softwares; for me, I edit on mobile, and I was able to edit the brightness to make my shots at least 50% more bearable on the eyes, I never uploaded the footage. Sure, it may not exceed our expectations immediately, but as people exclaimed, you get what you pay for, so make the most of it. I haven’t used mine in years and now I’m just starting up again for my KZbin channel. I consider it a “benefit” and a “disadvantage” compared to my usual device (just my iPad). “Some things are best tolerated than avoided.”

I started with PowerDirector. I thought it was pretty easy to use. I'm sure there are others out there, but that's the one I started with. I've tested out several generic cameras like this and some of them have problems with the memory card being read properly in the computer and I've even had some that create odd file formats that won't read properly in some programs. Then again, given the footage of the regular video you demonstrated, my guess is that the IR night mode probabley stinks anyway. After watching this, I just went with a used Sony I got off ebay for the same price. The only disadvantage was that I had to buy an adapter to put a micro SD to fit into it like a Sony DUO slot. It depends on what type of videos you will be making. If you want to record things closer than 3 feet or so from the camera, nothing will be in focus due to the fixed focus with a minimum distance of 3 feet or so. It also has no image stabilization and the digital zoom is pretty terrible. Also, depending on which exact model you got, some of them 15fps, not 30, which can give a bit of a stop-motion look to the footage. Many of these types of cameras also have major audio limitations of one kind or another. But those limitations aside, it will technically record video, so if that's what you have, give it a shot and see what you can get done with it. If it doesn't work for you, try to get a refund and save up for something a little better. Good luck with whatever you end up with.

I've tested quite a few at this point, and none of them are very good. A couple that were around $60-$100 were almost a good value, but sometimes had rather serious issues. Most are garbage and poor value. Some cheap action cameras are as good and less expensive. A used, name-brand camcorder in a similar price range would be way better if it was a model from the last 8-10 years. I see the Canon HF20 on eBay occasionally for around $100 and it is WAY better than the camera I reviewed in this video. I hope you can help me. I bought a cheap yundoo camera with no accessories just for me to learn to make youtube videos. I plan to pass it on to my 11 year old grand daughter when I'm done because she really wants to start a youtube channel. It has a Li-ion battery that doesn't last very long at all and worries me about a recharging fire hazard. I would prefer to use a USA battery. How do camera owners find a proper USA battery replacement? What battery replacement would you recommend? This is a CAS. NP-40

Can you plug the ride mic to the cheap camcorder
@bigtb17172 жыл бұрын
You can use higher quality microphones and/or a wireless system like the Rode Wireless Go. But with most of these generic camcorders, the low quality audio is as much a result of the camera as it is the microphone. With several of these types of cameras I've connected high quality Rode and Sennheiser microphones to the audio input jack and it still sounded pretty poor. Just something to be aware of.

Is there a recording limit??
@bigtb1717 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that isn't something I tested with this, specific camera. I've since tested that with a couple other generic camcorders and they usually record for about a half hour, one or two of them recorded for about an hour. Most of the time they start recording again automatically after stopping, but they lose a few seconds in between, so it isn't seamless, even if you put the two videos together in an editor after the fact. But like I said, i can't confirm the behavior of this camera, as I didn't test the recording limit. Honestly, at the time I never even thought about it because with camcorders, there really shouldn't be a limit. It's only recently that I've tested some of them and found they mostly stop and start around 25-35 minutes. One of them I found only recorded for around 15 minutes before stopping and starting.

@bigtb1717 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if this specific model supports transferring videos over USB, but most of them do. It's USB 2.0, so it's slow, but it usually works. You have to connect the camera to your computer and turn the camera on, then chose the option other than PC Cam. I don't remember what the option is called. Personally, I never do it that way. I just remove the memory card and use a card reader with my computer.

@bigtb17175 жыл бұрын
If you can't find anything else and end up deciding to go with one of these Chinese cameras, I recommend you pay less and skip most of the extra accessories. The only accessories that I find worthwhile are the external charger and extra battery. The rest is virtually worthless. Skip the external mic as it doesn't really help the audio quality. The wide angle lens is poor quality and not worth much either.

@@bigtb1717 hey thanks...how is the night vision in complete darkness?
@bigtb17175 жыл бұрын
I did test a version that had night vision. I found the "night vision" isn't really night vision. It does let in infrared light so you can use an IR flashlight and see with that, but without an IR flashlight I can see far better with the naked eye, and other cameras I have without night vision can pick up far more in low light than this camera can with night vision. So if you want the ability to see infrared light and use an IR flashlight, the IR night vision mode may be what you want. But if you are simply hoping to see better in the dark, the night vision on these cameras is not helpful.

There is something that I have noticed about Amazon selling cheap camcorders they always seem to claim that these little camcorders are high quality in images and videos but when you look at some of the reviews on Amazon rather it is in a text explaining or explaining with photos from some of the photos people have taken with some of the cheap cameras seems like they were taken in the early 2000's to 2012 which with allot of the technology we do have now I almost would think they would make some of these cheap cameras a bit more decent almost like they can put some of the cellphone cameras and programming into the cheap little cameras
@bigtb1717 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it seems that most of these cameras are simply built as cheap as possible. I've seen some mention that these cameras use Sony sensors. That may or may not be true, but even if it is, there is a lot more to it than the sensor. And there are only so many sensor makers, so the fact that it is a Sony sensor may not be a decision made for quality but made because they are available in bulk and so are the cheapest option. The data stream from the sensor has to be processed and encoded. That requires additional processing and that processing requires thermal solutions. Image stabilization requires additional mechanisms and or/additional processing. Autofocus, adjustable aperture in the lens, and zoom all require additional mechanisms. All of these add cost and complexity. In the rare, few examples of cameras like this that have these features, they obviously had little to no testing or R&D beyond just slapping them in place, because they generally barely work. One of the reasons I started reviewing these cameras is because I thought it would be cool if companies did make slightly more basic, but still decent cameras for a reasonable price. The reason I'm so hard on them is because they seem to be built to the absolute bottom dollar possible. Even the cameras that cost $200-$400 seem only slightly better than the ones that cost $60. They are built to be as cheap as possible, they are priced to give a ridiculous profit margin, the brands constantly change so they can create more listings and really saturate the market, the marketing claims are super misleading, they often lie about features, the cameras are often unreliable, and some have even included counterfeit memory cards. Sure, once in a while one ends up being a bit better, possibly by pure chance of whatever chips the company was able to get the cheapest that week. And some of the super cheap ones can give a "retro" look that some people find fun. So some people may find value in some of these cameras. But until a maker shows that they give a single thought to honest marketing, not to mention quality, performance, and reliability, I probably won't fully recommend any of them.
@oldtimegamer2.098 Жыл бұрын
