When I was a kid, let's say, 38 years ago - I would have been thrilled with the $100 camera. I used to "make movies" using a very, very bad VHS camcorder that I got at a jumble sale for more than £100 lol. Needless to say, Speilberg didn't feel threatened.

@@JoaoSilva22222 Yes, I think that is a good point. Take away the side-by-side technical comparisons, add a compelling story, create set-ups that suit the limitations of the camera, and make a movie! How about a comparison between the Alexa and a semi-proffesional budget friendly camera like the FX30 or GH6? I'm suspecting that these could be surprisingly easy to match even though the price difference is still pretty huge. So that would be interesting!

Can you do an Alexa vs the Panasonic G7 match up? The G7 doesn’t have log or anything amazing. But, you can create looks by adjusting curves and a few other things. I think a video like that would appeal to people with a $500 camera budget. With your technical skills it would really illustrate to novices, like myself, the importance of Technique and attention to detail.

Maybe I'm a noob.... but here me out. i think the 100$ camera can produce better results. if it shoots 8 bit. its still millions of color. if we light the scene considering the dynamic range of this camera . if it has 8 stops of dynamic range, we can still have our subject at the right exposure and have the background 3 stops under. I think we should end up up with a much better image.

Yes you have use professional techniques to get any good results. I have 3 of the camera ones and 3 of the adventurers ones, they work great for my needs, I do a lot of action inserting stuff as a double exposure, and for 150 they do great, plus they update the firmware and I highly recommend higher end 1:48 1:48 1:48 cameras for the majority shots. If you’re just starting out they work fine to learn on, then when you’re ready to upgrade you what to look for! There will be naysayers for $700 in cheap cameras you could have bought a nice one, I needed 7 cantons the all work fine for my purposes

I just got one of those Amazon $100 cameras 📷 and I'm quite pleased we it. I changed the video resolution to 1080P 30FPS, and set it for Fixed Focus. I use a Comica Audio Mixer, connected to two external microphones to record my drum practice sessions. No out-of-focus, no video jitter or pixalization, plus good recording sound. Just be aware that you can't attach most off the shelf camera mics to it because most of these Chinese made camera will only work with a single channel mic 🎤 . That's why I got the Comica audio mixer. I can take two channel audio sources and blend them into a single channel output to the camera. Still alot cheaper than spending $600 to $1K for a beginner or casual use camera. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🥁✌😎

On “image quality” generally - am I right in thinking the massive hit movie of the late 1960s - “Easy Rider” - was shot on 16mm film (and blown up to 35mm for cinema release) ? 16 mm would have appreciably less resolution than 35 mm and poorer colour rendition. The point I’m making is that a less than optimal medium (or camera in the case of this particular video) doesn’t automatically mean the “movie” that’s shot on, or with, it will fail with audiences. The “Blair Witch Project” - I think - is another example of a highly successful movie though the “medium” used was some less than high res camcorder format. Personally, if I was in a position to tackle making a movie for “general release” - a highly theoretical scenario - this €100 4K video camera would be avoided like the plague !
