How about GX85? It's basically a cheaper, smaller G85 without a flippy screen (only tilting). It used to be 450$, now it's same price as G85 (700$) but with 2 lenses instead of 1. It might be 450 again some time. Most of these cameras have serious problems, either poor IBIS or no IBIS, or bad AF or something else deal breaker. Even XT4 isn't truly worth it because you don't get as good video AF as A7SIII. So why get an expensive camera if you don't get the best? I.e. S5 is a good camera but that AF is just BAD. I could just say screw AF and get a BMPCC6K Pro for that price, at least I'd have the best IQ. What do you get best with any of these for that price? 1000$ for G9 for tiny ass sensor and measly 150 Mbits is just too much.

Fuji is the best camera for photographer hobos that like to walk around the streets because they have no homes. They zone focus at f11 with no toneh because of the fuji colors they wish their imaginery houses would have on the walls. Autofocus don’t matter in their lives cos they got their focus on the surprise moment when someone accidentally enters their pre-focused area. Some days I’m one of those photographer hobos too if I’m being honest.

Pana S5 after engage AF tracking is so far the most reliable camera that I have ever owned. Kit lens 20-60 mm is such a great lens as well, light and usefull range, provides sufficient toneh.

The 20-60 is bad with backlit scenes, i replaced it with the 24-105 because of that, macro, stabilization and because the 20-60 was effectively a 20mm lens. I don't use the midrange, the 24-105 is a 24+70-105.

Agree with Raberts World, on your phone or tablet most videos on YT look the same quality, the only thing most vloggers worry about is focus. And I ain't about to fork out 1000+ bucks for a full frame body, my humble Dslr serves me well and will do for many years to come.

I'm real happy with my Panasonic G9 which can be found used all over ebay for about 6-8 hundred U.S dollars. Put a $150 (new) 14 mil lens on it and you're ready to rock and roll with some truly excellent video/image quality! Cheers 🍻.

I have the Fuji X-t4 and x-s10. Love em both, but the x-s10 is so much lighter and easier to handle. If you don't need 10bit or 4k 60p, it's able to basically do everything else the x-t4 can. And yes, you do get less battery life, but they cheap to buy so get extras.

@@1883entertainment I don't think that is a real improvement for one over the other for ISO, dynamic range, etc. I like the E-M1 II for its phase-detect autofocus and insanely fast burst rates, which are great for sports and wildlife photography. The E-M1 II also has 20 MP instead of 16, but I don't think that's a huge deal. 20 MP gives you a little more flexibility for cropping, but it's not dramatic. With current firmware, the E-M1 II can also use that phase-detect autofocus in video mode, making it a great choice for vlogging. The E-M1 II shoots beautiful Cinema 4K video footage, but the G85 is better at UHD and 1080p. The G85 doesn't even have DCI 4K. And the G85 has a better audio pre-amp, although it lacks a headphone jack.

Very good info thank you.....this one is a little trickier but would be helpful to me.....we shoot 1080p on the G85 because it does improve video autofocus but with olympus PDAF i would shoot 4K......how would you say the olympus 4K is compared to the G85 1080p? Our paid weddings we would probably shoot the C4K anyway which you said beat the panasonic and basic home movies don't need anything crazy special. Also, on the olympus can you turn down the sharpness for video in camera to help avoid the typical moire/aliasing issues?

Always love when you mention the Nikon Z50 (and not only because I have it! lol) It's really a gem as far as budget cameras go in my experience. One other benefit I would mention is that -- because the kit lens is pretty solid (as far as kit lenses go) -- you can use it for a long time (which I plan to) until you decide which camera brand and lens ecosystem you truly want to commit to without wasting money (I still haven't decided.) Also, glad you mentioned that it's one of the few that allows you to save custom video settings as I now appreciate having that feature even more.

Got a nice Canon off of EBay recently. It's obviously used, but it looks new. No dust on it. There are good deals out there, but you gotta look and be patient. Some cameras look worn: corners are a different color, minor scratches .... avoid those. You can get two or even three nice used DSLR cameras with great pic IQ for the price of one of those new mirrorless ones.

Still, I can't stand adapters, and am waiting for their affordable compact glass to come out. Nikon certainly need to get some UI issues ironed out. Also, being able to share your accessories with a FF body is VERY useful and a huge value to me.

It’s true FTZ adapters do sell for cheap with new bodies frequently but then you’re also paying the price for buying new vs slightly used so it doesn’t come out any cheaper. Used bodies tend to not include FTZ unfortunately in my experience. I respect the camera but its failures are what drove me from Nikon to Sony because I simply did not have the lens options at a price and weight I could deal with. Didn’t know about the Fuji adapter though. That’s great.

@@airb1976 i'd say, yes Nikon's z lens autofocus (also exposure) are a little bit better than Fuji's but if we're talking about budget lenses, specially for apsc like z50, then something is better than nothing. But if they had the same lens line up for apsc, i'd pick the z50 over say xs10 (but not for vlogging, cuz of the flippy screen). All my opinion though :)

@@airb1976 I shoot Fuji using the X-T4 and the X-S10. I have four lenses 10-24 f 4 (old version), 16-55 f2.8 and the new XF 70-300. Plus Viltrox 23mm f 1.4. The quality on all of those is good. 10-24 gets a bit soft at the long end. The other two fuji lenses are cracking. If you can't get brilliant results with them you don't know what your doing.

I don’t know why, but this is why I’m addicted to M4/3, the challenge of getting it to look as good as full frame. I have the Panasonic G9 and I just bought the OM1 MKII on your recommendation. On the electronic bays you can find them for about $650 USD. I feel shooting with a tripod/no pressure, the Panasonic. Run and gun, the Olympus, both together will cost less than most full frame cameras. Also, I was watching Theoria Apophasis, Ken offered you 2 acres of land, is a move to the US in your future? There’s such a disproportionate amount of Canadian camera focused KZbinrs, its time to break out. Your just a number up there, all you have to do is stare pronouncing Z correctly and your in with us in the states. Just think about it.

If you live in Europe then I have good news. We have a sale here for m1mii. Only the kit with the 12-45 pro is left. Olympus m1 mark ii and 12-45pro cost half the price of m1miii and fuji xt4 !! I don't understand how the m5 miii and xs 10 (booth without any lens) can cost 30% more than the m1mii kit with the 12-45 pro. The differences in the video compared to m1miii :no auto iso, no raw output to ninja v and less effective af and white balance in low light, a bit worse ibis (hard to notice), worse pre amp.

Love my G9. I use the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, Olympus 7-14 and 40-150 f2.8, and some ef converted zeiss contax lenses with a speed booster. Been thinking about getting the Mitakon m43 T1.0 cine lens set, but not sure if I want to drop $1200 on glass when I think my next video camera might be something like the S1H.

DECEMBER 2021 UPDATE: Panny G9 . . . great camera, but HUGE! There's nothin' micro about that camera except the sensor! Both the Canon EOS M50 MkII (US $599) and the EOS RP (US $999) can punch above their weight if you understand what they do well. They both take excellent RAW stills when matched with a decent lens. The 4K video output is fine if you focus manually and account for the crop, and their 1080p/60 is up there with the best, with zero autofocus issues. A little tweaking of the picture profiles and white balance and you're good to go. But for vloggers? GoPRo 10, DJI Action, DJI Pocket 2 - and yes, I carry it in my pocket all the time. 😎

Agreed with X3000, ahead of its time. Out in the field, I think durability and reliability is often underrated. In this regards, I would rather using $999 Canon RP 24-105kit than a lot of mid tier Fuji low end Sony gear in the windy rainy outdoors. EM1II and G9 should get the job done reliably but they are certainly not cheap. They were retail $1500-$2000 for years. Another thing you forgot to mention is Canon R5, I think it punches above its weight way more than a lot of gears mentioned on your list. 8k raw was unheard of under $10000 at the launch time 2020. IBIS works, AF tracking works, CFE card works, battery life decent, people forget how good it is and bash it for heat management. Above it's weight doesn't necessarily mean cheap gear.

I wouldn't call OM-D E-M1 MK II. budget camera until it is not 2nd hand, it is still sold somewhere around 1000 €/body. But yes it is a great camera, expecially using log profile. Originally I had no intention using it for video (I am mostly using normal camcorders for most of my videos, they simply don't have the issues you are digging from the photo cameras capable of video recording) but now I am using it even for normal A rolls for using in cinematography work.

It just seems like, in this day and age, the younger generation prefers to watch EVERYTHING on their tiny 6-8" phone screens...So, the resolution doesn't seem to matter as much as one's content and, of ALL things...SOUND! An 8K video of the world's most beautiful scenary set to the soundtrack of The Enemy's renowned "Streets in the Sky" as an 8-track recorded from an 80's Radio Shack Microphone won't gather many views...Change it to Steely Dan's AJA Album with a 32-bit floating-point bit depth w/ a sample rates of 88.2 kHz and everyone would watch!

Do you consider there is a difference between 8bit and 10bit? Cause I'm always in the fences between getting a semiused X-H1 w/kit lens & grip or save up for an X-T4. It would be a hybrid shooter but wanna get more into video

@@mackdj43 don't know. But the X-H1 quality is SO good you could create a professional movie with it. I was really fascinated. Out of camera. But grading in Premiere Pro is also very easy with f-log footage. I'm now selling the X-H1 for a Z6 but only because of better stills quality. Video quality is better on X-H1. Autofocus and 15min recording time without battery grip are cons though. You could also buy a used X-H1 and upgrade later if you are happy with the Fuji system. You don't lose a lot of money then.

Did you see the 43rumors about the new Sony sensor that can be used for 5k(2880p) 120fps 12bit video and a lot of other slow-mo crop modes? Maybe you can tell OM Digital Solutions in a video what you expect from their next camera coming out with this sensor?

EM1 MII isn't bad. If I was invested in M43, I might have tuck to it, with fast primes. Getting the toneh. Same logic with Pani, because of the shared M43 mount, there are some good lenses. oly 12mm maybe. As far as Fuji, yeah, i'd try that out if i had zero gear now. I like fuji, even old fuji has a look, if I invested from step zero, I'd grab the x-t4 or similar model. Even if Fuji-X mount lenses are a bit of a mixed bag for video, not that I vlog, but I might get bored enough to do it and so lenses are everything I guess. I prefer Sony in general, despite some factors that aren't perfect.
