The underrated MazdaSpeed 6 may be good option. Powered by a 2.3 turbo engine, they come with 260 hp. Talking about reliability, they have common problems at rear TransAxle but, you can find aftermarket parts that can actually be more reliable than factory parts 😂. There are vital changes inside a 2JZ-GTE vs. a 2JZ-GE that doesn't make the two a worthwhile comparison when you're boosting the 2JZ-GE with a turbo. Plus, IS300s, along with GS300s and SC300s aren't so cheap anymore.
@jkent9915 Жыл бұрын
The GE is still great up to about 400 ft-lbs so like 600hp. Honestly every Supra that I have ever seen race with my own eyes either made that much power or less OR it wasn’t reliable. That’s the worst part about those engines. Sure, you can make 1200hp out of 3L but the tunes will be finicky, the engines will be finicky, the cold starts are finicky, and that all before you’ve even attempted to put power to the ground.

@willriley1619 Жыл бұрын
Volvos are great cars. Redblocks are cool but so were the whiteblocks. The 5 cylinder Volvo engine should have gotten more attention in its time. There was a point in time where the 850R had almost 270hp stock. That was fast enough for it to beat almost all of its competition. For most Volvo engines the tuning is unlimited and have seen B230's over 1500hp and whiteblock T5s and T6s up to 2000hp.

Had to chuckle at the "powerful 2v v8" for the Mustang. It made 260hp (265 in the Bullitt) and in the Mustang world is the laughing stock v8. However, that is why it belongs on this list, the 2v 4.6 GT's are the cheapest buy in right now, and do actually have some tuning potential. They respond very well to boost, and are very reliable. Upgrade Rods/pistons, fuel system add boost and tune, and you can skip the 300's and go straight to the 400's Hp at the tire for about $10-15k INCLUDING buying the car. New minis (F56) are actually very reliable, though parts are expensive as they are from BMW. The B48 engines can achieve 200k miles with pretty much minimal issues. 550bhp has also been achieved as a record number on the stock internals. The pistons can be quite weak in some variants when tuned, so be careful of what tune u pick. The supercharged R53s come with a cast iron block, so they can handle boost well, though they do have some reliability issues. Just avoid the R56s at all costs tho.

Got a 13’ lincoln mks ecoboost for 14k 3 years ago. Its a taurus SHO, which was already a sleeper with two turbos strapped to its v6 AWD platform. Even more so in the lincoln form, with much better/quieter interior. Mines tuned with a few hundred dollars in mods putting down 400hp. Best part of the 3.5 ecoboost is drivability tho, lightly press the pedal and she glides off like a quiet v6 getting v6 milage, but if you punch the gas, it feels like 2 cylinders (minus the sound) have been unlocked, and it takes off like a big NA V8, tons of fun. Any AMG V12 is super nice if you keep up the maintenance and find a shop that won't drown you with high labor, unless you have the tools in your garage. I picked up my 2000 GS300 for $3,500 (in running condition with no damage) and the cheapest comparable IS300 I could find that was $6,000. The main difference is that the Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS300) is the only other car that came with the same 2JZgte as the Mk4 Supra. I think people just like the IS300 (Altezza) because some of them came with a manual transmission, but you can easily line up a manual in a GS300...very much like it was supposed to be there.🤔

@Josh-qm4rb2 жыл бұрын
Like the E46, the E36s are just as good to tune, if not better. Like the E46s they do have the cooling system issues, but if u take care of that, those engines are absolute cockroaches, like the shit u see in the old Toyota trucks. U cannot kill them, 300k miles is not uncommon. The M50 in earlier models has a closed deck cast iron block like the 2JZ! unlike the aluminium M54 block. The factory block is good up to 1000hp. Though it is best to fit in some M52 forged pistons and rods. With that, on stock OEM BMW internal parts, the M50/M52 still retains nearly all its reliable at 300whp, and is still good up to 400-500whp. some stock E36 motors have seen over 700whp! With fully built motors, the M50/M52 has seen well over 1000hp. In the UK, Non M models go for like £5000 in good condition! The E36 M3s are a lot more reliable than the E46 M3s too as they don't have the rod bearing issues, though they admittedly don't drive quite as well (though they handle super well still) or look as nice.

To elaborate, with a stage 1 tune the alltrack is quicker than the GTI. With a downpipe, intercooler upgrade, and IS38 turbo from the R, you essentially have a golf R wagon with over an inch more ground clearance. An RS3 5 cylinder is a relatively simple (unfortunately expensive) swap. Conceivably you could do the RS3 swap and do the Iroz IMS1100 upgrade and you would end up with a hypercar level wagon, but that would jack the price up immensely. Still 25k for the car new, 40k for the RS3 swap, and another 15k for the IMS, 80 grand is a bargain for something that would beat a Tesla Plaid
