Some moves require you to hit them hard and fast. This doesn't give much time for tapping or reacting. Do you think this Jon Bones Jones inspired shoulder lock is a cheap move?

This is the type of content that we all want! Amazing! Thanks for putting this out there. Love to see the comparisons.

If it's done to me that's dirty. If I do it to someone it's fair game. Oss. #swag

For a guy in the UFC have it happen to him in training by a guy who knows what he is doing. It seems like something you would not do to a buddy training in the UFC. You could snap some shit all for wanting to be creative, but in match you could do it. Just doesn't make sense to do it to a guy who is helping Strickland out. We'd all get pissed.

In a competition, all legal moves are game so, No I would think the sub is fine if you can catch it. In class or training with your normal training partners, I wouldn't do it, especially with the danger of injury on the elbow if you do it wrong or too fast. Not worth it to your training partners. So, competition its fine, at the gym in training not so much.

The Mir lock is such an under utilized move. I like it. On training partners, gotta put it on slow. In comp, it’s a different story. Full intensity but stop right at the breaking point.

Only a white belt so I might be unaware of parts of the etiquette, but I can't see why this submission would not be legit...

I think the guy was pretty controlled in the white belt match. It's a good idea to never let someone get those kinds of controls, as anything can happen. Solid video!

Thanks, man! Yes, the first and last examples were quite different in their level of control. Either way, I'm careful to avoid leaving a shallow underhook sitting there in case someone wants to go all Jon Bones Jones on me.

Oh - You're one of THOSE guys. Just kidding... Most of us are much more careful with the guys we train with all the time than we are with the dude standing between us and the podium.

I think it's fine in training, and in comp. Just be mindful of who you're training with, their body awareness, and skill. No one wants to get hurt :) Also who cares if something is "dirty". BJJ is a martial art for fighting. If it gets the tap in competition, you win. A perfect example is a neck crank vs blood choke with an rnc. Does it really matter if the submission works?

I'm on board with what you are saying. I clearly don't think it's TOO dirty, or I wouldn't have video of myself using it in competition. If I ever use it in training, I apply it very slowly and only to the right kind of training partner.

A sub is a sub. He got mad because he wasn't ready for it. I'm a huge believer in train harder than you need to. My son trains 15 min rolls. His division is usually 4 min. His training partner is almost 100lb heavier and a green belt. My son has only been in bjj for 6 months with wight belt and competes in expert kids .he qualified for free entry to worlds .he fears nobody in his actual weight class

This showed up on another channel. kzbin.inforv1qafd8q8g?feature=share The problem it’s pretty dirty if its done fast. In Sean Strickland case he training for a fight and his partner should know that and extra caution should be taken. I don’t blame Sean for being pissed.
