I love the video! I've watched many videos trying to get a better understanding of how to install a catch can on a D series and this was the most informative and helpful one! Only thing I still don't understand is which part of the engine goes to which part of the catch can? I have a similar catch can with an "in" and an "out" port where the fittings go to.... Does the Breather go to the "in" fitting on the catch can or the "out" fitting on the catch can? Or does it not matter which one goes where? Just wanna be sure before I do the installation!
@TexasHondaChannel3 жыл бұрын
There is multiple ways to hook it up but this is the method I used. You should want the oil vapor in to be lower than the return to intake if doing a recirculating setup. So oil vapor from valve cover on the bottom nipple and top will go back to intake. If you are just running it like me both run into it and your good. The valve cover and the black box under the intake

U guys have some pretty laid back car regulations over there, here in Australia we can’t have a venting catch can, it has to circulate back into the turbo intake. We can’t have atmospheric venting BOVs, it has to be plumb back and no POD filters without an enclosure, it has to be in an Airbox or sucking air outside the engine bay like in a wheel well.

@sinformant4 жыл бұрын
Lol that intro! You have the hand gestures down perfect. Do you lose boost pressure from the vent on top?
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
It don't run on vacuum or anything. Since its just capturing positive crank pressure it just vents it with a filter. Takes the oil out of the vapors and the rest gets vented to Atmosphere. I was running it straight to atmosphere already and it was just leaking oil everywhere so this is a cleaner way to do that lol. Car runs the exact same.
@sinformant4 жыл бұрын
@@TexasHondaChannel ah the setup was different on my car. When it went to atmosphere on the one side it would mess with boost. The pcv valve only opened inward. When it broke it bled boost. Hard to explain. But factory it had two one was an inlet from the intake to the valve cover that only let air in when the valve pulled vacuum. The other came out under pressure and ran to the intake side of the turbocharger. The one that broke would spray oil everywhere
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
sinformant Ah I see. Yea the rear black box on the civic runs to a pcv valve but they won’t allow any crankcase pressure by unless there is vacuum so I always remove them pcv valves and I don’t recirculate. Too much issues can come from recirculating it and why ruin a perfectly good system that works 🤷🏻♂️. Idk if that made sense lol
@sinformant4 жыл бұрын
@@TexasHondaChannel yeah I understood. Its bad on the direct injection ecotec engines since there is no injector spraying in the intake. The intake valves get so much built up it is insane. If you googled it you would freak.

what would happen if you had catch can setup connected to a pcv valve that wasn't straight through and it needed vacuum?

Would i be about to use a catch can and leave the pcv valve if i use it as a closed system because my car uses a metal pcv valve with threads
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
Joshua If you have a closed system yea you can leave pcv my understanding of pcv valves is there needs to be a vacuum source to help open the valve but I guess it wouldn’t be the same in all cases. A close system would be best for people who are worried about emissions or fuel economy

@lurice03 жыл бұрын
People on hondaTech say you did this wrong because there's no fresh air to the crankcase.
@spp68492 жыл бұрын
you dont want air in there. both spots vent outwards, not in. youre probably thinking about the valve cover vent, which again vents out into the intake pipe, while the original pcv one vents to the manifold. he doesnt have to care though because its going to vent to atmosphere via the filter on top. it just creates less of an oily mess like he pointed about before the install. if you care to keep your fumes for emissions or mpg reasons, you would do the opposite by plugging up the filter spot and only have the pcv location vent into the can and out the can into the manifold and have the valve cover one vent to the intake pipe or atmosphere. the real messy one is the one with the pcv. you can just put the filter on the valve cover to make less of a mess and have the pcv the only thing going to the can. also consider that he's doing a race setup so it wont be smart to push high pressure into the intake piping while having the valve cover venting into said pipe. you'll blow out basically all your valve cover gaskets and even other important sealing gaskets if you did the oem routing.
