This reminds me of something I said on a Miata channel.👇🏻 What I am about to say is especially true in N/A setups. If your Adjusting them in 70+ degree temperatures. You can actually get away with 0.007 Intake and 0.0011 Exhaust. I know they say “only follow the manufacturer’s Specs.” However considering the manufacturers also leave enough room for their vehicles to be cold started in Russia roads in winter while also being driven up a very steep hill in Mexico in the hottest days of summer. All of which on their same factory recommend adjustments. So there actually is a slight amount of play room figured into their recommendations for extreme thermal expansion. Honestly. Now alternatively if your cylinder temperatures are increased such as non intercooled Turbo/Supercharged engines also high boost and nitrous setups. As well as alternative fuels like nitrometh I recommend going to the looser side of the manufacture recommendations for the thermal expansion of the metals under those extreme conditions. But a properly tuned and intercooled turbo setup shouldn’t see cylinder temperatures that high to begin with. Look at it this way if you have to run colder plugs. Then set it to the higher side of the factory recommendations to be sure. And if your still running the factory plugs you can get away with that extra 0.001 depending on your climate temps and the way the vehicle is driven. If it’s a car that only see’s racing conditions than you probably already know what you should be doing with valve adjustments anyway. Because in racing conditions a loose engine is a happy engine.

Right now I'm working on my next project. An '02 EP3. I am leaving it bone stock outside even keeping the four lug and working on all engine. Dropping an '06 K24A2 from a TSX-S. In order to keep my four lug I'm sticking with my stock five speed. Short shifter w/steel bushings, stock 15" wheels n'all. Just engine (I'm keeping that as stock as possible too) maybe just headers since the TSX exaust headers interfere with the stock swaybar on the EP, but that's it... stock muffler and all. (Maybe a cat delete) Then I'll focus on suspension Front control arm inner (geometery correction) relocation bushings and camber correction balljoints. Inverted tie rod end links and "delrin" steering rack mount bushing to prevent flex when turning under acceleration. Of course a good set of coilovers but I'm aiming to maintain stock ride height (possibly an inch lower MAX) since the McPherson front suspension doesn't respond well to lowering. Typically front springs "should be" stiffer but on the EP2/3 chassis it's actually backwards and the rear springs will be roughly twice as stiff as the front. It won't understeer more than stock. Another SI has a similar set up and it handles 110 percent on the curves. To use the TSX headers I'd have to use the thinner EM1 front sway bar or no sway bar at all and I am after full stock. Strut bar front/rear and chassis bar across the back window that's it. In the far future I'll strip the interior but that's another chapter. There is a way to install factory OEM Brembo option off an RL but you need to use s2000 rotors and I'm keeping the four lug so it's a no go for me. If I buy a second VTEC head (A8 head) I will try to experiment with the "VTEC LOCK" mod cause it has a NATY NATY sound to it. At that point I would get some custom unequal length headers to get the full effect.

SGREEFER310 Yea for sure the idle and daily drive cruising and stuff like that needs adjusted with the tune but it might not be a big issue on stock not really sure. I have always just done it to modified and tunable civics. It can cause more wear but the use of higher zinc oil such as Rotella or adding a zinc additive to your oil can prolong the life. Doing it with a bigger race cam will defiantly make it wear down faster but a stock camshaft vtec lobe won’t be enough to cause major damages. I’ll go over all this in a up coming video “Pros and cons of locking vtec”

Seems like you're a little defensive and I understand why. the Honda game people are pretty intense... we'll just leave it that. I had a buddy do this way back in the day early 2000s and it drove great far as power but it drove like a dog down low. He had a reground VTEC cam and it never had traction and soon as he got traction he just broke s***. Eventually he would h- series. Best of luck bud sounds good. I would also recommend that you tell people to loosen the lash Adjusters before torquing in the assembly. I've heard people take a stock engine apart then put it back together and not realizing that the adjusters needed to be adjusted. there can be small movements that require it now to be adjusted. I don't remember if those are interference engines or not but it's good practice on all engines.

Thank you so much for showing this! So it always needs a tune due to the high cam profile? Even if using a stock non vtec ecu I assume the fuel map would have to be changed as well as perhaps some timing? Also, you mentioned getting an aftermarket camshaft, would an aftermarket Y8 cam be BETTER than an aftermarket Y7 cam? Or is the height of the cam all that matters basically.
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
The stock y8 cam on the vtec lobe is much bigger than the stock y7 and results in more power on the low end/mid range and top end power over the stock y7 and you don't have to swap the entire head over just a cam swap. The tune has already been adjusted but it wasn't much that it needed so not sure if it will do it on a stock ecu, We will experiment soon enough on that aspect.

i have a z6 i’m about to rebuild, what does locking in vtec do?
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
I mainly did it so i could run a bigger cam in my head but it isn't as beneficial to a stock z6 but i did notice more low end tq.

Isit possible to put A Vtec Cam in A Non Honda? Like A Saturn??? With modifications of course
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
Zoqezz I doubt it but then again I guess I have heard of weirder things done before lol
@TaylorTiger4 жыл бұрын
@@TexasHondaChannel exactly that's why I'm just curious cause people have do e some crazy stuff. I mean if you was able to understand how Vtec & it's Variable timing works & measure dimensions & Some how fit and wire and tune your ECU there might be a possibility right?
@kentatnight26074 жыл бұрын
Why not just send the Saturn cam in for a regrind ?
@tannerharris58484 жыл бұрын
Is that a d16y8 rocker assembly that you are also swapping over with the y8 cam?
@ethanrottenberger2503 жыл бұрын
Is the rocker assembly the same between vtec and non-vtec? What rocker assembly did you use?
@faisalsohail90633 жыл бұрын
Vtec rocker assembly from d16y8
@AldenBuild4 жыл бұрын
okay you convinced me to do this haha. the rocker setup you locked, did you use an extra y7 or put the y8 with locked cam in your y7 head? i got a y8 head layin around
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
It is the stock d16y7 head with a y8 cam and y8 rocker assembly. Then used a spare d16y8 rocker assembly for the longer lock pins.

Tried using the link on your video to order the same parts you used for this conversion but it’s unavailable. Any other links or websites you recommended to use so I can get them

So did u just add a pin from a factory head or those pins were the longer ones
@TexasHondaChannel4 жыл бұрын
Manny Gotay Sorry if I didn’t make it clear enough. These pins are from another y8 rocker assembly I used them from the center lobe off another rocker assembly.. I put the longer ones in my description Incase someone couldn’t find a spare head or rocker assembly.

FatSleepyPanda I don’t know but the head casting and design is different so not sure if everything lines up the same.

DID YOU ALSO CHANGE TO A VTEC DISTRIBUTOR?
@urmasslow11 ай бұрын
Of course not. Why would he? The whole purpose of the video is to make the vtec lobe engage 24/7. That's not vtec, that's a poor man's performance cam. It's still a non-vtec motor. It's just running a more aggressive cam that just so happens to be from a vtec motor.
@WorkingClassMedia11 ай бұрын
Makes sense, any pros and cons? like would it hurt the engine etc?@@urmasslow
@urmasslow11 ай бұрын
@WorkingClassMedia it will shorten life expectancy because that cam profile is the thinnest of three. But you do this for budget builds with no concern for blown motors. I doubt you'd get 50k miles out of a valve train doing this, even taking good preventative measures for wear.
@urmasslow11 ай бұрын
@WorkingClassMedia if you get a nonvtec car for under a grand, and can find a good vtec head for a hundred bucks or so and want to hoon a bit, go for it. Don't do this to a daily driver. If it's a weekend toy and you have a reliable car to drive the majority of the time, then go for it. Or if you plan to swap a motor soon and don't care if it blows. Go for it.
