I was in Walmart looking at their clearance section, there was 2l of juice on for $.54, in Canada, unheard of, anyways this man walked past me and was complaining about the price of groceries, I pointed out the clearance he says “what’s wrong with it?” I said “nothing, it expires tomorrow.” He started freaking out saying he wasn’t eating expired food. Some people can’t be helped, keep complaining then.

To the woman cooking for one:. I've been able to downsize my portions to 4 servings. I'll eat one serving, put the other in the fridge to eat a couple of days latter on and freeze two servings. After awhile, I have a nice freezer stash of cooked meals then I won't have to cook for a week. Good luck with this and I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Usually when people talk about poor quality food…they are talking about commercial processed foods that are usually sold as loss leaders. I try to balance those foods by adding fruits and veggies bought on sale that week. People just need to do the best they can with what they have available to them 💗

So sorry that happened about the quilt only getting $60 for it. I’m a quilter and the material itself can be expensive let alone the love and time you put into sewing it (and by hand no less!). God bless you! Your heart was in the right place to donate these.

I can't believe the quilt! I crocheted an American flag blanket and it auctioned for $125, and I sold another for $125 to the lady who didn't win it. Your quilt should have gone for at least $250!

At our Winco, I always look at the individual meat and thier deli cut cheese packages. If they aren't selling fast enough, Winco puts individual packages at a lower price per pound. And yes, that is the time to buy what you can afford and also store.

Apparently, in Canada, we are supposed to be having a turkey shortage, and the prices are going up. We already pay 2.89 cents a pound now!!!! Guess we will be raising a few of our own turkeys and meat chickens next year. Raised a beef this year, he's due to be butchered any day now. Thankfully we have almost 4 acres, to raise things on.

I am not a bit surprised about the quilt, that's why I don't sell my quilts. Most people have no idea of the amount of time or money that goes into it. They see throws in the store for 5 to 10 dollars and think you should be able to buy a quilt for 20. I am also not surprised by the price of the gingerbread men. People just don't cook any more. I know a lady that regularly buys cakes for 45 dollars each. Not homemade pound cakes but a strawberry or orange cake mix cake with cream cheese frosting. Absolutely blows my mind. Keep doing what you're doing ladies you may be able to save a few more crazy people.

Everyone I am a Hospitalist physician and while probably 90%of the population does not have to watch their salt intake, anyone with CHF, CKD stage 3 or worse or cirrhosis of the liver will potentially wind up in the hospital with fluid overload syndromes if they don’t watch their salt. Conversely, I have taken care of people with hyponatremia or low salt problems as well. Medically there are a lot of causes for this but in our country it is not due to a true salt deficiency unless they have a few very rare conditions but a hormonal imbalance called SIADH is fairly common which makes a person hold on to fluid dropping their salt concentration not their true salt content in their body. A lot of things can cause this including the above medical conditions already listed, cancer, thyroid, adrenal gland problems and many medications. Salt tabs may be prescribed to try and counteract the excess water the body is holding on to. Unless you cook everything from scratch almost no one has a true salt deficiency in the US if you eat anything canned, packaged or processed. Please talk to your doctor if you have one of the above conditions before you go on a SALTPALOOZA.

It’s not the salt, it’s the the salt with the bad additives in it. Although like Tawra and Jill said iodine is good for you. Just read the ingredients, don’t trust the front of the label. Iodized salt is not always just salt and iodine. Neither is the one that says plain salt. Sodium dioxide is often added to it. It is basically sand/granulated glass that will cause irritation and inflammation in your body which literally is what causes the strokes and heart attacks. Salt is fine it’s the ones with sodium dioxide that is the bad one. Just read the ingredients. I hope this helps you and others out there.

Oh Tawara, I so agree with you. I have been a very long time follower. I started to internalize a lot of your tips and tricks before you had the "Dining on a Dime" cookbook out, just "Not Just Beans" (which is still one of my favorite cookbooks. I used your tips about buying on sale (only I added that I also needed a coupon for some things or I wouldn't buy it {candy, and potato chips, that sort of thing}, even canned sweet potatoes in November). Once I got into a rhythm of knowing the ingredients that I cook with all the time, the sales cycles (about every 4-6 weeks), and could coupon along with those sales, my grocery bills hit new lows. And, have stayed there, even though my financial situation has tanked, and I use food pantries and food stamps. I go to the food pantry, before I make a grocery list, knowing that this is what I have to start with (along with any stock piles I have {and I do have stockpiles}, and use my food stamp money to buy the ingredients to fill out my meals. Knowing that there are never sales on lemon juice (used to be a Reallemon lemon juice coupon every spring for Easter baking), and a sale, but no more, so I buy accordingly. Since the shortages, I might buy an off brand, and I can taste the difference. But I know it is a temporary situation, so I would only buy one to add to my cup of tea daily. Usually by the time the next month rolls around, the store has been able to restock and I will buy 2, and keep that item on my grocery list for the next month also, and see where I go. I am not a boneless, skinless chicken breast kind of gal. Give me a thigh. If the thighs are not on sale, and I have none in my freezer, I will either buy one package of drumsticks, and adjust my meal plan accordingly (I think we all have different recipes for different parts of the chicken). Chicken thighs go back on the list for the next month. I don't complain about it, just adjust accordingly. I wasn't sure about dropping items like candy, potato chips and even soda (Pepsi gal here), from my grocery lists. But I did it, and switched to home brewed iced tea as my choice of beverage, and water. At the time I was doing this, I was also feeding my nephew and his dad (local policeman who always worked the 4-12 and 12-8 shifts) so they were included in the grocery budget, and frankly I was working for an attorney, and able to support that budget. Now I am living in Florida, retired, and by myself, that budget has slipped to $20 weekly or whatever I get in food stamps. I actually get more than $20 weekly ($50 from Medicare monthly and $88 monthly in food stamps). I don't use any of my own Social Security funds to feed myself, just the Medicare healthy food funds, and food stamps, and I eat very well, when you add in the goods from the food pantries. I see the comments on your live feed about organic, or special diets, and picky eaters, etc., and I just laugh. A lot of people on special diets put themselves there, and it is code for "I'm a picky eater". There are quite a few who genuinely need special diets for certain disorders, like yours, or who may be Autistic with texture or scent challenges, and I understand that. Organic, in the strictest sense, should be used to say, "I grew it myself, and I know that none of my neighbors within 20 miles of me used any chemical pesticides". I also know that there are so many ways to still eat good, healthy food that doesn't involve always complaining.

Hi, for some odd reason, we can buy Online 5# cornmeal store brand and have it delivered opposed to finding it in the store, which is weird as it's store brand, but IF you see cornmeal store brand 5# bags for under 3 dollars buy them. Masa is also a great corn meal product and being nixtamalated is healthier for you as the corn is broken down by the liming process, and watch your brands but Masa is 2 kilo's or 4 an some Lbs and that's a good price, it's easy to make your own corn tortilla's with this too. if you don't have a tamal press just use common sense and press between the thick plastic ziplock bag, (taken apart) and use wood block big enough to make a 4 to 6 inch tortilla. then bake on the skillet. easy peasy.

Last week picked up 2 (10 pound each ) butterball turkey breasts at the local food lion on markdown $2.33 for each one and 20 pound butter ball discounted at $2.75 for the whole thing. It was at the local food lion which is very pricey(chapel hill area of course) so do not shop there but only once in a blue moon when need a quicky shop. Did the turkey breast at 325 deg with 1/2 stick of salted butter covered with foil and used an old fashioned meat thermometer for a few hours. Came out so moist.

I live in a small apartment and I have a good electric space heater I use instead of my gas furnace. It heats really well and I thought it might be less expensive than using the furnace.

I miss those sales hoping we get some. Our store has .98 turkeys and .77 5 pounds of potatoes. Other than that👎I shop when traveling and save tons of money for years now. I shop sales constantly because our state is poor and food is really high to me. Our albertsons is a family owned store not sure if they sold with the rest of stores. Stimulus check helped me buy a steer for the freezer. So I have not bought meat in over a year unless it is a great deal or turkey. I stocked up on chicken in 2019. The food saver has saved me so much money meat lasts 5 years easy.

If white sugar goes hard, just hammer it into chunks & then grate it on the largest holes (coleslaw/shredded) side of a box grater. I've not EVER had it reharden after doing this. I just put the grater in a large plastic bowl or container of any sort to catch all the sugar & not make a mess or lose any. You can also rub it back & forth over the bottom of a wire mesh/ screen type strainer that you rest on the rim of a bowl or something like that. I can put it in ziploc type bags, canisters or any airtight plastic container & it will be perfect!!! I live in a very humid area where it regularly gets to 94% humidity and it won't even rain that day or the next!!! I personally love to find old used Tupperware pitchers with great seals & a spout for things like white sugar, rice, flour & any food easily 'poured' like that!!!

My local HEB has brisket for $1.77/lb today (limit 2 with $10 purchase). We have 2 turkeys in the freezer. I plan on baking them and then canning turkey soup for my husband to take for lunches at work.

I think you make more money on the shorter videos. I can’t spend an hour or two watching the long videos. Also, my attention span goes after 15 minutes. 😂 I like to watch the shorter videos much better. I always start the long live chats but always click off them after 5-10 minutes.

Only shop the sales. There are more than 1 store. Check online the weekly ads. Cardenas, Aldi’s, plus the regular stores ALL have sale items.

today, i lucked up on meijer chicken for $1.99/lb - even luckier by grabbing the last family pack of 12 drumsticks at the manager's special price of $5.34! my father doesn't live w/ me, but i cook for him twice a week. that's gonna be 6-9 meals and maybe 12 if i eat 1 piece per meal. i wish i had more freezer space, but i'm in an apt. i've been subscribed since 2020, but after watching more of your recipes and shopping/stockpiling videos, i've finally consciously been shopping mostly sale items in the past couple of weeks. i haven't had as much fast food in the past couple of weeks either. i realized i could use ingredients i have on hand, for marinating my meat, versus buying new bottles of marinade. i have to search my e-version of the cookbook v1 for some other marinades, but i LOVE the simple maple glaze one. i already emailed you about that one. what jill said about time is so true. my brother's father would tell him "if you budget your time, you can budget your money."

In a rural area so not much choice in grocery stores. I do stock up if something on sale but very limited options. Larger towns hour away & some of them don't have much more than Walmart.
