@JAZINITY Yeah I'm aware of the absurdly inflated price of enterprise targeted, well anything really. That's why I mentioned it. But I've seen video and reviews of SlimeVR trackers (like Thrill's video) and I've seen plenty of content using XSens and there is a night and day difference in tracking quality, regardless of the inflated price issue.

Haritora could definitely be made compatible with Quest standalone if they made an SDK that could be integrated into games themselves, basically circumventing the need to implement it on an OS level. This is the idea behind Stonx tracking. Vive trackers are designed to track arbitrary objects (people have stuck them on cameras to track camera movements into a CG scene!) so they are incapable of making any assumptions or educated guesses once they loose line of sight. Stonx is an outside-in tracking solution designed first-and-foremost for full body tracking so it can take into consideration the limited range of motion of the human body and fall back on IMU and human model tracking when line-of-sight to the beacons is lost.

One thing id like to see as a laser tracking user is a hybrid system. Where if you have all the trackers required (5+) and they get obscured by a blanket the system would automatically switch to a IMU only mode. That way you could get the best of both worlds (except price ofcourse). Dont see it happening any time soon but would be cool
@viken33682 жыл бұрын
Frankly Im suprised its not been done already, either on controllers or trackers. Cause IMUs are pretty cheap and as some controllers (like q2) already have a gyro its not something that isnt thought about. The main reason the price is high for IMU only tracking is the software, mainly the calibration and estimations. Which would be avoided with a hybrid system.
@moonut96432 жыл бұрын

@zig1312 жыл бұрын
That is exactly what Stonx tracking is planned to be. Right now they are perfecting the IMU-only body model (i.e. slime-like) tracking but further down the line there will be 'beacons' that can track the 'cookies' outside-in. There should be a method of FBT that tracks in the same way that Quest 2 controllers do, with IR lights. You could have a small external sensor that tracks the lights (basically just the Quest 2 cameras but separate from the Quest 2), and if the external sensor is relatively close to the FBT trackers, it should work well.

It's a real shame that Oculus abandoned Constellation (i.e. Rift CV1) tracking which is exactly what you refer to. The Rift CV1 sensors are relatively low resolution IR webcams so are vastly cheaper and more durable than lighthouses. They provide really good tracking accuracy. Driver 4 VR actually provides an option to provide full-body tracking to a non-Oculus headset using the sensors and controllers from a Rift CV1. There is an option to use 3 controllers which suggest Constellation is capable of tracking more points than it would do in a regular setup.

The delay is probably because it's saving a lot of diagnostic data in the background, pretty normal for pre-release stuff. As for the polling rate (how smooth it ends up looking in movements and how well it can capture quick movement) that might be getting limited purely due to the diag data again, but it also might just be the limit of the hardware. Regardless the software could 'interpolate' the movements (by creating data points between the polling) by simply lerping the movements, should looks nice and smooth - though not as accurate - as pretty much any top brand tracker. Would probably add an extra 0.5-1ms of delay but that's really not that bad. I imagine the release will still have some delay but probably not nearly as much. Did the one you test at GX seem smoother? If it did then they've clearly already got a switch that they can just flick to turn off diag data collection and should turn out to be roughly the same as the release version.

The software isn''t pre-release. The product is already out in japan. Its Bluetooth. Bluetooth (accept for QC AptX) has horrible latency which causes the delay. There isn't a whole lot software can do to fix it.

while I like the idea of Haritora, I feel like all of the loose wires and straps connecting all of the trackers would get snagged a lot

@zig1312 жыл бұрын
I mean you've got a choice - you can just throw the Haritora X on quickly and easily in which case it is messy and you risk snags. Or, for a long/important session, you could take the time to cable manage it. Thrill clearly went for the first option but nothing stopping someone from buying some elastic straps and cable-tying the leads at the correct length for their body. Or could go a step further and make your own ethernet cables that are the perfect length for you.

I think every VR KZbinr makes at least one video per month that is something like "AFFORDABLE FULL BODY TRACKING IS OUT NOW!!! FOR EVERYONE!", but there is always something that messes up, or there is one little tick about it that is bad. Its just annoying that many of the KZbinrs that I watch that do VR and this stuff always say the same thing over and over for FBT. There is never one that is perfect, affordable, and works for everyone, so stop clickbaiting people by saying "FOR EVERYONE", when for most people, it is NOT for everyone.

I'm so glad to here this. I was watching it really closely during CES and couldn't find any info after. The only problem is I live in Australia, so I can't get one yet (also the whole sold out thing), like I even messaged them asking if they had any plans to release it in Australia a few months back and got a no. Hope it keeps going successfully, because I would love an international release.

One thing I've been thinking about since I first saw slime and Haritora is IMUs being used as a fallback for lasers. It would of course help with occlusion but might also be able to help with drift due to the lasers being reflected, and of course would allow the high-precision of lasers but also the ability to be under something like a blanket.
@zig1312 жыл бұрын
@@Quayledant The original version of Stonx was an outside-in/~base-station tracking solution - albeit 180 degrees - so Anton does clearly know what he is doing.
@zig1312 жыл бұрын
Steam/Vive tracking is designed to track arbitrary objects rather than specifically human bodies. There are already good IMUs in the Vive/Tundra trackers that assist the laser tracking. However the only reason IMU-only solutions like Slime VR work, is that they can rely on the headset being an accurately tracked position and can assume that the points being tracked can only deviate from the headset in ways allowed by the limits of human movement i.e. your torso and legs are attached to your head. Steam does not make this assumption. You can see this if you leave your controller on a table and walk away in Steam VR home - your "hand" will end up an improbably long distance away from you. I think Valve - and HTC at the time - preferred a more open and flexible solution and to some extent it has paid off. People have put a tracker on a camera to allow people to "film" a CG scene with realistic/analogue camera work. But it does mean to get "hybrid" full-body-tracking it is necessary to start from scratch and that is what Stonx is doing.

I hope this drives more games using full body. I don't VRchat, but I would LOVE if my chest/waist in game didn't fly away from my IRL chest/waist or get locked in a stupid rotation when I'm trying to reload. Also imagining full body in Jet Island and actually turning with legs and feet like an actual surfboard.
