To measure the latency, start the chronometer on your phone, frame your phone's display with all the cameras linked to the HDMI switcher, and then shoot the big monitor displaying all the cameras AND the phone displaying the chronometer at the same time. On the recording, you will see precisely the latency, even the differences between each of the camera's HDMI output if any. Every monitor's review should do this kind of latency test, easy and precise.

It's so, so SO annoying that you aren't showing your hand while demonstrating the latency. We can't see what the latency is!!
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
Oh, sorry about that. The latency is pretty bad. Maybe a second or two. So if you shoot at 30 frames per second, then that's about a 30-60 frame delay.

is there a more easy and cheaper solution for video-signals (no HDMI, but several cams for simultaneously watching different corners of my house, for example)? There are video-switchers with ordinary switches, but I'd need to have a smarter solution (maybe with remote and multi-viewing on TV) ...thanks

Thanks for the video. I’d like to add a DVR between the switcher box and the tv monitor to make a sports delay video feedback system. Would it work to connect the switcher box to a dvr and then use the dvr to create a delay by rewinding the video feed?

the thing is you have 3 memory cards to edit with using 3 cameras. How can you use 3 cameras using a switcher and have one recording for post production?
@VideoGizmology4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand your question. This video was meant for a cheap solution to monitoring up to 4 cameras at once. That was my purpose. If you want to record all 3 cameras to one recording, you'll need to purpose a proper production switcher and external video recorder that will give you features to do that. This is not covered in the scope of this video.
@dgstudioLLC4 жыл бұрын
Video Gizmology you did understand my question because you answered it. I will have to buy a switchboard that record to one memory. In this case you would have to upload footage from 3 cameras to edit one video. To much work

Have you measured what precisely the delay is?
@HacknBuild6 жыл бұрын
Great question. This device seems like it would be great for live streaming, you'd just need to adjust the delay on the audio to match the HDMI output.
@VideoGizmology5 жыл бұрын
I have not measured the delay and I wouldn't know how to do it precisely or if the delay is consistent. Devices like this could have an inconsistent latency and so many other factors could be in play. You would have to purchase this yourself and measure the latency for your specific gear and workflow.

I thought you said cheap?
@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
I define cheap relative to price of the other products I'm comparing to. A production switcher is upwards of $1,000, generally $2,500-$5,000. So I consider a $290 switcher cheap. Does that make sense? Obviously, if you have no idea how much other devices are worth, then you may think $290 is not cheap, so I understand where you're coming from.
@stevecam16 жыл бұрын
I have been seeing many of these selling for between $10-$120 ($50 being your typical price) As far as latency is concerned, I wonder how attaching a standalone camera would perform I know you are probably going to say that you pay for what you get, I hope you don't mind me sharing my point of view and thank you for replying to my comment I find a bit of science goes a long way when it comes to hardware like this, that said it's a bit hard to be specific in your needs when your filling your rackmount with $10,000+ splitters

@VideoGizmology6 жыл бұрын
By your standards, what makes something professional and not professional? Are the thousands of professional video productions, myself included, who use HDMI equipment not professional? I would argue there are limitations to HDMI, but there are also benefits when it comes to cost. If my production can save thousands of dollars by using HDMI instead of HD-SDI to achieve the same result, I will use HDMI all the time.
