This video is so misleading it's unreal, yes there are certain elements to it which are correct such as 2.8 allowing more light in, thus lower ISO and better bokeh etc. but you're comparing a stellar L lens released in 2002 to a cheap 35-80mm lens released in 1990. Considering this review was made last year why not use a much more recent "cheap" lens. Believe me, there are cheap lenses now which in terms of Image Quality look indistinguishable from the L lens in this test. The 18-55EFS kit lens for example looks a million times better than the cheap lens you've used here. No cheap lens bought today looks _that_ washed out, looks like it's been left outside in the sun without the lens cap on.

Hello Sydney pls can you help me this? i want know the difference between this Lenses? (Canon Ef 70-200mm F/2.8L USM Lens) and ( Canon EF 70-200 F/2.8L IS USM Lens)
@SydneyPortraitsLilyfield7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Chijoke. The difference is the IS - which stands for image stabiliser. Could be useful for avoiding blurred shots when shooting with low shutter speeds - but how well it works, I don't know. Certainly adds to price and weight. Hope that helps!

Nice video, good examples, much appreciated. The one thing that surprised me the most was the noise on the images. I thought noise was only influenced by camera's sensor capability. Now I know better. Thank you !

A very interesting, well constructed video and one I wish was around 20 years ago. If I have my 24-70 on my 5DIII I will often still put my 18-135 ef-s STM on my 7DII to cover the bases my 70-200 would usually cover on my 5DIII. I never throw a lens away and I'm no good at motivating myself to sell them. I shot a roll of FP4+ on a EOS1000FN last week, with a 14mm f2.8, for a low mid range camera they were pretty decent.

This video is misleading if your new to photography your not always going to be using the 5D Mark 3. I started 5 years ago with the Canon 10D with one of these kit lens in video and my photos where pin sharp.

Seems that Canon hired a bunch of people to push their products lately. The kit lens are very old, not eligible for comparison, but even so, most of the differences presented can be fixed in Lightroom, in literaly less than a minute. That being said , I'm going with the kit lens that cost 100 bucks today, instead of the pro that cost 1000. There's NO WAY this dif price is justfiable. Thank you very much for the tip ;)

I'm sorry but I honestly think that isn't a fair comparison. The L-lens is starting at 2.8, the 'cheap one starts at 4. The focal length is too much different too. I think this comparison is useless. I think the 24-70 f/4 L lens would be a better enemy for the 35-80 lens. ;) :) Ps: The pictures you took with the cheap lens are heavily fogged. Either the lens is dirty or inside the lens is some dust. Pps: If you want to make a serious comparison you should compare the IDENTICAL parameters and the SAME focal length with a tripod and an unmoving object.

This is taking the comparison to a ridiculous level. Let's compare this clapped out Volkswagen Beetle to the slightly used Lexus. Which is better?
@tyler.6 жыл бұрын
Honestly it's the exact comparison I needed. I have a really old lens, just about as old as the one in the video. It is honestly nearly the same lens except mine has a larger focal length. Same aperture and age tho. I am looking to upgrade to a 70-200 f2.8 IS lens, which is the same price, aperture, and quality. I think the reason he did the comparison to a really really old lens is ultimately because for beginners, some people may not be able to see the difference between a $200 and a $1500 lens. A beginner will easily be able to see the exaggerated but real difference between the older lens and the L lens.
