Appreciate your Manual Mode portrait tips! I don't always shoot in RAW format, but I see the advantages for portraits!

Focal length doesn't change perspective. Your standing point does.

that cheap lens you was using was over 30 years old. cheap lenses can be just as good as pro lenses

Awesome video. This might be more relevant for film then photography, but I was curious of how focus pulling/raking impacts the look of lens flare (given a static camera position). :) I can't find any info on that.

Thanks for the video. I own a 14-24mm f/2.8 zoom. I also own the following primes: 14mm f/2.8 18mm f/3.5 24mm f/2 I own a 28-70mm f/2.8 zoom. I also own the following primes: 28mm f/2 35mm f/1.4 50mm f/1.4 I own an 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom. I also own the following primes: 85mm f/1.4 105mm f/2.5 135mm f/2 180mm f/2.8 I usually prefer to shoot with the primes and keep the zooms for backup. However, there are times when I shoot with the zooms and have the primes as backups. For example, last month, I had to shoot outdoor pickleball matches with the zooms because my access to the courts was limited by a waist-high fence.

There is a far better and easier way to get the exposure perfect while shooting in manual mode, and it does not require wasting time with a hand-held meter. After setting the aperture for background blur, set the camera in spot meter mode (still in manual) and place the center focus point on the brightest part of the subject's face, and for white skin, set the compensation (shutter speed) +1, for black 0, and for brown/asian 2/3+. Thats it! Now compose and take your shots and each one will be uniformly exposed, all perfectly. This video showed a method that takes more time, needlessly complex, and requires additional equipment beyound just your camera. Pros no longer work this way...

I hope we will see medium format with curved sensors cameras in 2023, and photography will be a more meaningful activity with high latitude. thank you.

The interval thing confuses me a bit. How would I set up my intervalometer if I want to do a timelapse for a building construction, which in effect I will need to shoot for approximately 10hrs a day for around a week ?? Can anyone help ?

Nicely done. most videos don't explain the difference between correct & appropriate exposure ( probably because they don't know what they are talking about ) This is the first thing i explain in my lessons & you can see the penny drop in my clients eyes as it explains why they have been having problems for years.

Good lord! You know you can adjust the variable in shutter & aperture priority by adjusting the iso right??? You don't need manual mode if you actually know what you are doing! The only advantage with M is the exposure will be locked rather than changing as you move the camera around because of different tones in the scene.

Hi Tom, Realy like the way you explain photography, it is to the point and easy to follow & learn. Now that we are in 2021 what are your strategies with photo storage, I am just getting a little more interest after a 30 year lapse. I don't like the idea of Google having my photos automatically which is what is happening with my Samsung A-315G - which are mainly family, food & recording day to day stuff, tax invoices, interesting bits & bobs but nothing meaningful (family stuff excepted). I have a couple of 1TB external hard drives wich I will start to organise today but everyone is using cloud & Google but do you think it is it safe . Alan

For beginners just starting to get off of full auto and shooting portraits or landscapes in normal lighting conditions aperture priority works well just figure out if you want a sharp background or a blurred one and set a wide aperture for blurred background and a more narrow one for when you want everything in focus like a landscape and the camera will do the rest. Of course keep practicing in full manual as well to improve your skills
@TheSilverGlow2 жыл бұрын
Full manual, as you say, will too often produce under exposed human skin. Its far better to use other methods.

How would Image stabilization come into play? For Apsc shall i multiply the focal lenght with 1.6 so a 200mm minimum shutter speed on an apsc would be 1/320 at the very least?
