This is what I needed to watch! Thanks you so much Simon!! I was so lucky, my daughter gave me 4 Sony lenses with art lenses, one zoom to 210mm and the only deal was I had to buy a new camera body. I chose the right bundle and then my twins camera she gave me being a DSLR, I have found very cheap lenses! So I have four for that one also. Now I want to get the 200m to 500mm used for the Nikon and then, the next lens will be the big zoom for the Sony the 200 to 600mm used also.

Congratulations on your anniversary Simon. The growth of your viewership is testament to how well your instructional videos are received, including this one on lenses. I like to shoot with zooms for their versatility, but one has to be cautious about selecting zooms regardless of focal ranges. Many lower cost zooms, while advertising an ideal focal range do not have sharpness or image quality one really may want. If you can save up and get the higher quality version if available. I don't have a lot of these, but the ones I do have (Canon user) are the L category of lens. They do make a difference and are weather sealed. Primes are the same. There are differences if and if you can try or test them before purchase, do so. I have 2 primes, a 100 mm macro and my "best" lens that I use to compare all others in sharpness and image quality, my 50 mm 1.2 L prime. It's not truly a landscape/wildlife lens, but the images when on the R5 are magic.

Happy One-Year Anniversary! You deserve every success! As a not-beginner photographer, you still hold me by the way you share your knowledge. At times, you still teach me something new, other times you remind me of something I should have remembered but have gotten into a bad rut. Either way, I enjoy all your videos. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. As to your question, most of my lenses are zoom for practicality while being aware of the trade-offs. I’m mostly a birder, but always want to be prepared to take landscapes. With only two lenses, I’m usually covered. I recently bought a 4/3 camera as a “walk-about.” Even then, I opted for a zoom to cover contingencies (that odd pigeon 😊). It also guarantees I won’t be dragging by the end of the day.
