I lived and worked in VN for 10 yrs, had moved back to the States for more than 8 yrs now and straight up I miss the hell out of riding scooters in VN. Having my girlfriend snuggled close to me behind me, laughing and chatting about anything and everything in my ear, smelling something delicious or feeling like a refreshing drink and stop on the sidewalk to get it at a cheap price, hearing our neighbor riders saying something funny, seeing kids looking up to ask their parent something as they leave school, being part of the mass of scooter riders, it's just something unique. I also enjoyed your taking the haggling/negotiation for what it should be, a fun thing. At the end of the day, you're still paying a lot less than what you have to pay back home. And NO, the quality of the real thing isn't worth twice the cost. Don't let having to pay $5 more ruin your trip.

It's great that you brought your Dad on your trip. Most kids don't do that. Thats 1 way to connect with your parent. I'm sure this will be the most memorable life experience for all of you. Bring him on more trips. Good job !

Just FYI to foreigners in general, Hanoi does have modern shopping malls which tend be situated in the newer and flashier urban centers with wide streets and many skyscrapers (Not interesting to tourists I guess). Tourists tend to end up in the Hanoi old quarter and that's where most of the footage on youtube comes from which gives an impression of Hanoi being old, full of small houses, narrows streets and generally less modern than Saigon, but that's actually not true :)

Hi ! I didn't write any comments for a while because I have been busy 🙃. But I still watched , clicked your videos and didn't miss any! Bargain is a tough part in Vietnam even for me when I came back to visit my siblings in Saigon, February 2019 before the Covid-19 was hit hard America and the world. I had to go to shop with my sisters or my niece and let they bargained for me because I had no idea how much was really cost for the items! I liked to shop in the malls around District 2 where one of my sister family lived. But I didn't buy clothes, only something for souvenirs and gifts to family and friends who live in states as me. And it was a big NO for me to drive bikes as you guys. The traffic on the streets in Saigon was insane! I remembered I was screaming and scared to death behind my niece when I sat behind her on a bike! But after few days, I got used to the crazy traffic and wasn't screaming anymore! LOL.. you guys are so brave to bike around the country there. Look forward to see more videos of you guys , especially your cute dad looked good with his new hair cut! 😍

@OnePackWanderers2 жыл бұрын
I (Cheveyo) did the walk away thing and it worked getting a pair of shorts down to about $6.50. People say when the shopkeeper is upset, you've found the bottom price 😂 We generally don't bargain that much if the price is reasonable to begin with, but I know some people really enjoy the process 🙂
@davesivirn22832 жыл бұрын
Fun video as usual. Wow great haircut dad. Bargaining can be fun. I just try to goof on them. I will say i need lower price because I am hungry and need to eat. most of the time they will say I am hungry too. At that point I say ok lets go eat. After a second they get it and we have a great laugh. That seems to get me a bit lower price. Never insult them or call them cheap, just make it fun, and both parties end up feeling good about the transaction.

Look them up online. Tigit? Very trustworthy company in VN.They are one of many companies renting. Buying and then selling takes time and frankly not worth it. ( to me ) Imo- unless you are planning to ride the whole country - I would fly / bus to a destination- Say Danang- then rent a motorcycle for a week to go see Hoi An - the cave - monkey mountain. Even motorcycle to Hue. It’s very cheap - Then fly bus to your next destination. 8 hour day on these little bikes- heat - rain - crazy ass traffic flow. Is not worth it You spend days just riding. Better to just get to the killer destination- and rent a bike there to get around. Buses are very very cheap here. Even flying is very cheap.

Hello, been following your videos of Vietnam with amazement. I’m inspired by your bike trip from south to north, what an adventure! I watch a lot of travel and foodie type vlogs but you two make me feel like I’m there with you. What appeals most to me is your attention to the scenery and the food, my two favourite things and of course the people. I have put Vietnam on my bucket list and would love to drive a Suzuki Jimny the length of the country. It was great that your Dad was along to add an age dimension to the adventures. Bet he’d love to retire there eh! Bless you all for being such open, kind and caring examples of foreigners. Hope your future travels are equally amazing! Cheers Steve (66yrs), Manitoba Canada

Don’t mind the size. It doesn’t always follow the standard chart size. Size notation varies with the brands. Size L, XL sometimes is the same with sz M. Just pick up clothing fit you. Being coffee addicts, don’t forget to buy Vietnamese coffee (with coffee filter) before leaving Vietnam, guys. Mai cafe, a very well-known ancient traditional coffee brand in Hanoi is a recommendation. Mai cafe was founded in 1936 and be hugely popular among Hanoi’s coffee addicts with its roasted, grinded coffee. They have a wide range of coffee (bean and powder) for your choice and offer roasting, grinding and packing service on-site. Mai cafe’s address: 79, 96 Le Van Huu street, Hanoi 52 Nguyen Du street, Hanoi 75 Tran Nhan Tong street, Hanoi

Yeah, you could have gotten it cheaper. The whole “if you find it cheaper”is just marketing. He’s knows you’re only there a short time and banking on the difference in price not being worth your time coming back and then proving it’s the same item. Unless you bought it and brought it back with you, he’ll say it’s a different quality item, has defects, etc.

I (Cheveyo) did the walk away thing to one guy and he begrudgingly lowered the price to $6.50 for a pair of shorts. We don't generally haggle much where we go, unless the price is genuinely unreasonable. Just our preference 😅
