First thing I noticed. A wheel weight left on can really bugger up an aluminum rim and rip the plastic/teflon inserts out of the "foot".

Gr8 video. I loved the balancer vid as well. I have a tire machine and a big old balancer. I don't have space for the balancer so was toying about a cheepy one that takes up less space. We can get these cheap ones in the UK. They seem to work ok. One thing I would say, is be careful about spraying soapy water inside the wheel. It will be there for ever and corrode your rim by the time you need a new tire.

988 Tire Changer (950 with 2 helper arms) Deliveries require a forklift to unload OR pay for Residential delivery + $150 For clarification the 560 is the smaller unit up to about 18” rims has the square tube rear upright and requires assembly of the bead breaker. The 950 is the larger up to 22” rims, has the “Bead Blaster” and main rear upright is a round cylinder air tank. There's also the options of the 2 helper arms the #232 unit making the #988 unit and the other 300 with the black additional upright with 2 arms on it with a disk, the #300 unit making the #960. The Mayflower 988/680 pair can fit tight in a space about 80” wide IF the Balancer is turned sideways so shaft is out facing you. Other arm options will need more space. The 988 (950 changer with 2 extra arms) is about 45” deep. I used casters on the 988(950+ extras), Harbor Freight #62276 3” locking 100lb. NEED (QTY 8) regular 1/2”-20 nuts (ORDER or get at a regular hardware store. Home stores don't stock them but can order some). Unit is at or over the max weight of the casters so user beware. Remove rubber foot on bottom, just pops out. Install 1 nut all the way down on caster then insert up through hole and install 2nd. Caster shaft needs a spacer so could use 1/2” flat washers too instead of the first nut. Foot bracket is upside down U channel. 1 Upgrade I added was a 1/4” NPT street elbow to the main airline input on the regulator after removing the factory Japanese style fitting the US doesn't use. That allows the air hose to hang down when connected instead of straight out the back. Then used a 1/4” male NPT to 3/8” hose barb to a 6' section of hose for a whip to move the connection out where it's convenient. That way it's easy to connect when using. Then I added a 1/4” NPT quarter turn valve so machine can be disconnected without losing all air pressure in case air supply line is needed etc. Another upgrade I did was added a higher volume airline. The “Bead Blaster” is almost a joke and SLOW. If you see the size of airline and the regulator it runs through you'll understand. I've seen a few add a line at the Regulator. That technically does work but doesn't have the flow capacity I desired. So I added a line to the tank(rear upright). Remove the included Tee for the gauge. Tank bung is 1/4” NPT so I used a Milton s-646 1/4” NPT Hex nipple into the bung using 4 layers of Teflon Tape on all connections. Then I used a Milton s-655 Brass 1/4” NPT Tee which has 3 Female fittings. One end screws onto the previous nipple so the middle connection is centered and angled down and back a little. The included Tank gauge Tee then screws into the other end of the new Tee. Then the middle is a port for a new hose to connect Using a male 1/4” NPT fitting like Milton s-602 1/4” male NPT to 3/8” ID hose barb and a hose clamp etc. I cut about an 8' chunk of another 3/8” ID air hose. I strongly suggest not using 1/4” hose. Then a quick connect fitting on the end. I use and highly recommend the High Flow Milton Type V couplers. You can use a regular air chuck or make a little bead blaster that runs way better. Use a quick connect fitting then a quarter turn 1/4” valve then a short section of hose and an air chuck that locks on. This is a much higher volume short hose feed off the tank. Smaller and more hose length are restrictions. You can now swap chucks and fill higher psi tires and a higher flow bead blaster. But care must be taken using the new bead blaster as it's got straight tank pressure. So use carefully and once bead pops insert valve and use a gauge to fill properly. 680 Balancer Options/Upgrades Many truck rims will need an additional adapter cone with 5.5” diameter that's sold separately For best results the 680 Balancer, should be anchored to floor. Don't just bolt down unless floor is perfectly level where unit sits. Base is bolted down with (3) 3/8” threaded anchor bolts ideally with 2 1/2” of threads sticking up to level with. Method is below. I wasn't ready to anchor yet so leveled with 3 3/8” x 2 1/2” hex bolt, 6 3/8” flat washers, 6 3/8” nuts. A small thin rubber piece size of a tire patch works good on floor to help keep from walking across floor. Install a nut on the 3/8” bolt approx 1/16” from head of bolt, then a washer. Insert bolt FROM BOTTOM UP through holes on bracket then install 2nd washer and 2nd nut loose, then do same to other 2 holes/bolts. The lowest nut can be adjusted up and down to raise and lower the machine bracket sitting on it. Use a 2nd wrench as needed to hold the hex head while adjusting nut up/down. Use a 24” level on the side of the case to adjust till plumb side to side and front to back. Don't use the plastic tray on top, there's no way to know if it's level to anything. Use the base sides. Then when height is good tighten down the top nut to keep height. 1 wrench holding bolt head 2nd on top nut tightening. Essentially the machine bracket is sandwiched between 2 washers with a nut on top and below. Parking lot light posts are mounted similar for reference except threaded rods are in concrete. As the concrete anchors should be to secure it.

to help break the bead on shitty tires that flop around , keep some air in them. do the back side first, but do not press it all the way off, just down the ledge, flip it around and break the front side bead. You have to do that for atv tires. 5 to 10 psi. My tire changers run on 180 psi, so I can break beads on tires with 30 psi if needed.

This was super cringey to watch but not everyone is an expert the first time they touch these machines, lol. The plastic covers for the clamps are for when you have a reverse drop wheel, so the drop center is closer to the back side than the front side. With these style wheels, you have to mount so the outside of the wheel is facing down on the machine. The plastic covers keep it from scratching the wheel. Also, I recommend having the wheel clamped when you set the bead. When tires explode the wheel goes flying in whatever direction its facing. The mag machines don't offer protection or enough clamping force to stop this but it sends the wheel in a desirable direction. Better to have it fly up and give you a chance to cover your head than it fly into somebody's legs.

I suggest getting some non water based "glycerin?" lubricant made for tire work. When dismounting the tire it can help to spray a little soapy water along the bead as you are trying to break it. Later this soapy solution will help lubricate the foot as it pulls the tire over the rim.
@TimNummy
@TimNummy 4 жыл бұрын
Soapy water seems to be pretty widely accepted for tire mounting. Including in the datasheet on tire mounting published by Toyo tires... www.toyotires.ca/sites/default/files/imce/Databook_mdtrktires_tireandrim_pgs_26_30_0.pdf
@consaka1
@consaka1 4 жыл бұрын
@@TimNummy Sorry but this is absolutly wrong for steel rims. You might get away with it on alloys but even those could corrode at any nick. Whoever wrote that for Toyo should have been fired. You do not want water inside your tire. Ever! There is a reason glycerin based lube is made and used by professional tire shops. Even I have it for personal use because I know water does not belong in tires. Besides, it works better for mounting tires. I even gave a tub to my dad who mounts all his tires by hand. Glycerin lube works better and won't cause your rims to rust or corrode. Once you have tried to dismount a leaky tire from a rusted rim you will wish you never used soapy water. I have fixed many tires leaking around a rusty rim. It's kinda a pain. Sometimes the wheels have to be completely junked. In the old days, you didn't have anything but soapy water. We all used soapy water. If you have to use soapy water you need to make sure its mostly just the soap part. In fact, I wouldn't add any water if I had to use soap.

@@consaka1 Some lawn and garden tires and lots of ATV tires have little nubs that need to be ground off or they won't seal.. But the wheels we service never rust again

What is the biggest size tire this machine will accept? Will it do tires for a lifted truck (~35") or will it really only work with smaller car tires?
@TimNummy
@TimNummy 5 жыл бұрын
I think the changer will do 35" and the balancer will do 37" - really the limit on the changer is the mount for the duckhead, if you modified it to move that back you could do larger tires. And it's just 4 bolts, could easily make something out of 3/8 or 1/2 steel plate that would do the job wonderfully.

the bead is going to be very difficult to break with a motorcycle wheel and also sometimes it won’t clamp correctly. also yes the steel duck heads scratch wheels like crazy if you don’t use them correctly i.e. keep them “hovering” above the lip of the wheel and back out the whole arm wit the screw up top.

The nature of posting videos on KZbin means that any time-based information, such as price, becomes immediately and increasingly incorrect as the video ages. Furthermore, shipping costs will fluctuate based on location. So me adding any price information to the video is, in my opinion, silly. Additionally, I provide links in the description of the video to make the research part for you as easy as humanly possible.. literally one click of the mouse, quicker than writing a comment, and give you an instant answer. Thanks for watching!

Where do i find this machine?

13:45 no.. just no. Soapy WATER should not be on the inside of the rim or the tire, as the moisture evaporates this will cause the tire and the tire pressure to vary a lot under different temperatures during driving, hot and cold weather etc..

What would you suggest instead? Being critical without suggesting a better alternative isn't helpful. The machine came with some paste lube but it's hard to apply and doesn't work well. I also know that soap can have a negative effect on aluminum over time and water can speed up rust, but all things considered, the air from a compressor introduces quite a bit of humidity in the tire anyway. I don't know that I've seen anything that says the pressure in the tire will change in a dramatically increased detrimental way by using soapy water over anything else... Especially since it's important to monitor your tire pressure in changing weather conditions anyway, since you should check and adjust it accordingly at those times. Soapy water seems to be pretty widely accepted for tire mounting. Including in the datasheet on tire mounting published by Toyo tires... www.toyotires.ca/sites/default/files/imce/Databook_mdtrktires_tireandrim_pgs_26_30_0.pdf

@@TimNummy I would suggest using a lube specifically made for tire fitting yes. Like you say, rust or oxidation could become a bigger problem, maybe balancing although it should not be a problem with this amount of water applied, and of course the temperature/pressure variations would depend on the tire dimensions. Bigger air volume = bigger variation. Thanks for you discussion anyway ^^

@@TimNummy nothing wrong with lube, I would just put it on the tire and the part where the bead hits the machine...I have installed 1000s of tires in my life and those points are crucial to the ease of installation ......also, I would have removed the wheel weights before removing tire as it will scratch the heck out of the rim or take a gouge out of the duckbill part

@@TimNummyI’ve used a mixture of Vaseline and soapy water before, but lube is the “professional” way to go about it

Thought the red dot took precedence over the yellow dot if a tire has both (15:57)? Great video! thanks

Title says 560 but the demonstration is on a 580. This video is embedded on a ebay item for a 560. Are you affiliated with those sellers and what is the difference between the 580 and 560

I bet it has to do with tire sizes or rim. One may do up to a ex. 36" while the other possible do a 40" tire. I would go with the larger as you never what the future needs are.

@@scottdinehart4986 I'm pretty sure I got mine from xkvehiclerepair But I actually think they are all the same guys with different store names...and it looks like they raised prices in the last couple of months by about $100 bucks or a little more. I think I paid about $1280 for my combo. * Tip wait for the 10% Ebay bucks offer and you'll get a 100 ebay bucks coupon* Thats what I did to buy a master wheel weight kit with money left to spare.* I got the free shipping. If you have a business address its free but you will need a way to unload the boxes... or it cost more and you need to let them know ahead of time. I just went and picked up at a local trucking company they loaded the two crates onto my car trailer for free and I just strapped everything down. The crates were stacked on one pallet...i had them separate them so they would ride on my trailer...The crates are pretty damn heavy one box more than the other....but I certainly love the machines they are pretty fucking badass the more you get acquainted with them. They are cool as hell slight learning curve...but once it clicks in your head and watching a few youtube videos you are a total pro with these.
