As I understand it, all of CT resented the song because they didn't write it. The record company basically forced them to do it because they hadn't had a hit in several years. That said, The Flame put them back on top. And you're so right: Robin and CT are a masterclass in live singing and performance.

Agree. The gated reverb on the snare is straight from the studio track and BunE is very clearly not playing the track...probably on purpose because of the absurdity of it all. But Robin's vocals are live.

@@1janelaf hey the first time I saw Cheap Trick they opened for Head East and REO. Was only a couple rows back from Rick's monitor. Got about a dozen guitar picks. They were an instant hit for me. Six days later they opened for Queen in Madison WI. They were starting their 3rd encore when they had the power cut off. The house lights came up and Rick could be heard. " I guess we're done now ". Hilarious. Then Queen came out and killed as well. Probably the best 2 band concert I have ever seen. This was January of 1977. I can see why Robin says he hates 'The Flame'. It's a hard song to sing but he nails it and makes it look easy. He's one of the best. Miss Bun E. and his big sticks. I almost forgot to ask. Who was the headliner when you saw them with REO?
