Had a Jack Russel for 14 years, always loved to be involved with what I was doing. Name was P.J. This reminds me of a particular time I was replacing the garbage disposal under my sink. He was sitting there the whole time, even had his paw on my leg as I sat on the floor. He died this past November. :-( ALSO, I have heard it is better to get a smaller size heater so that it runs harder and does not accumulate as much soot...

At my old job all the trucks had Espar diesel heaters. They would work great for years on end. The problem was always finding someone who would troubleshoot them when they didnt work. And I never could figure out how to program them. But manual mode always worked fine for my purposes. But you should be fine now that you have an assistant 🐶

Good point about finding anyone to troubleshoot them. I've a 5kw Webasto AirTop Evo 55 and its all clogged up after less than one winter in Wisconsin. They are convenient but no where near as reliable as a wood stove. Would hate to have the diesel heater as my only option because they will stop working out of no where and you are without heat.

Had one for 3 years 2003-2006 then it stopped working had a couple of people have a go at it but i had to give up it was costing too much money on reading instruction book at the time I found that it had a limited number of hours which at the end of 3 years I had used up .

The house would have been paid for by now and my rent is almost what my mortgage was. I know absolutely nothing about taking care of a van like you do. I can't even figure out how to program my thermostat. But I am getting closer to making a change of some kind.

I don’t know if they have these in Canada, but I bought my dog Dingo a tracking collar that has an app that uses cell towers to tell me exactly where she is and you can sync it to a router or a place so if she gets out it alerts me. It also tracks her health like a Fitbit. The company’s called Whistle and it’s something you might like to have for Rocco in case she ever chased after something.😎👍🐶

With the bond they are forming i dont think she'll chase off. Additionally, with the remote areas he travels i am sure there won't be many cell towers. I work from home and my dog is ALWAYS with me... he runs the boundaries of our farm, but he's on whistle away ALWAYS. Always ready to depart with me in a vehicle. I think for folks who are not as bonded (say leave the dog at home all day while working) the issues of "running off" seem to be way more common. YMMV.

If your dog needs a tracker you probably should reconsider having a dog. Why do even remotely need a Fitbit on a dog ? Take a minute to consider that It’s a dog why do you need to know how many steps the dog takes or how many times it pees or sleeps ? It’s a dog it does dogs things

I had my Espar gas installed by a up fitter and they put the exhaust in the same spot. SO far I have had no issues. I see it took a lot less time with the help you have now 😁 😁

I disagree actually. Rocco is cute and all, but the real appeal of Foresty Forest videos is hiking, outdoor adventures and stuff like that. Hopefully ,he won't become one of the stereotypical KZbin van dwellers where the dog is like 50% of their content now. Plus i'm of an opinion that vans aren't really the most suitable home for large pets, especially dogs.

i would tend to agree about the knockoffs, but I've a 5kw Webasto AirTop Evo 55 that has been used less than 1 winter and its already clogged up and spewing white smoke. For the price of a "good" brand name, you would expect it to run longer than 5 months. Its quite a complicated piece of machinery that's not easy to disassemble and work on. Brand name replacement parts are crazy expensive, just the burn chamber for my heater is almost the cost of an entire chinese heater. If you want to take it apart, just the dang replacement gaskets are like $30+. As for the noise levels, none of these heaters are quiet, they sound like a jet engine. The fuel pump is the least of the noise concerns.

That bent in the exhaust could collect water from condensation. As far as I know, the exhaust pipes of those heating systems are supposed to have a continuous downward slope.

I was going to comment the same thing. The exhaust should be a steady downward slope with no uphill sections at all so that the condensation cannot collect inside the pipe. Not only does it restrict the exhaust but also causes premature corrosion of the pipe because of the standing water

Hey Foresty Forest, I'm sure you've already contemplated this ,but we mounted our diesel tank to the outside of the back door, I painted it white to match the van as well as hide what's inside. We live in Colorado at 8300ft so Temps regularly dip below -05 F° and we've never had a problem and it's not an eyesore either. Just a thought Cheers mate from GoodVibes Van

I wonder if anybody's ever tried one of those external ones that just sit outside of your vehicle and the hose pushes the air inside. I don't really need that here in the Sierra, where I'm around 4,000 ft in the winter. I just use a little bit of propane and I get through all of it quite well and toasty. But then, I'm in a cargo trailer that has 1 inch thick insulation on all four walls and the floor.

Haven’t had any issues with my heater/fuel pump in almost the exact same location EXCEPT when it gets covered in ice so I had to put it inside of a waterproof camera style box and run the fuel lines in, haven’t had issues since.
