As a candlemaker, I greatly enjoyed this content! Mica isn't great for candles because it clogs the wick, but it can be used in wax melts and as an exterior coating for pillar/taper candles. Evan's candle drowned because of two reasons: the diameter of the wick was too small for the container, and the mica clogged the wick, limiting the flame. The cheap kit is very close to a real candlemaking set up, actually! The pots I use are taller and have a plastic handle to avoid heat transfer. I could see you guys doing pretty well at your next candlemaking attempts!

Fun video guys, my husband shared it with me because he knows I love making candles. The pouring pitcher in that kit is not commonly used in candle making. The one that is used has a heat resistant handle, also try adding about an inch or two of water so the pitcher can sit on its own without wobbling so you don't have to constantly hold it over the heat. You had the right idea about using a heat gun, use it to remelt the top of the jar candles and that will help with the dips/ hole in your candle. Hope this helps.

Plastic & clay charms or even natural options like fern leafs with spa scents and soft pastel colors. So many options! The fan favorite was hidden "surprise" items. We would use the little gashpon(sp?) plastic eggs, hide a toy or charm then hide it in the candle. The lower melting temp of soy was is best for embeds. :-)Thanks for sharing, LOVE your content!!

19:45 Wax expands A LOT when melted. My wife and I had to work out & re-engineer pouring method/timing and tweak our moulds to account for how much the wax recedes as it cools. That cone+funnel shape you ended up with was from the interaction of cooling & the surface tension (think about how water in a glass creeps up the inside ever so slightly)

If you're actually looking in the comments for tips etc, I can tell you that the paraffin wax would probably take just as long in the double boiler as it did in the machine since it has a higher melting point than soy. Paraffin is used for making pillar candles for that reason, whereas soy has to be in a container like a jar (just be careful what type you use since some can explode when exposed to high heat). I use an old pot and a silicone container to double boil wax when I make candles (getting old, cooled wax residue out of silicone is 1000x easier than a metal jug like that). It helps to let the wax cool until its sort of like alfredo thickness to pour it, you get less collapsing that way.

Wonderful family friendly content! We all watch together and at the "bottom plug" part my daughters (11 and 14yo) started giggling. I, of course, acted oblivious. Lol. No worries. It was funny if a bit awkward. As for why the center of the candle collapsed, most materials shrink when cooled (except water because water is weird). The wick may have absorbed some wax but I think that would be a negligible amount.... Perhaps not.
