As a professional bath bomb maker I can say that neither of those kits included EVERYTHING you need. Bath bombs should contain oil, but we add natural stuff (polysorbate 80 made from coconuts) to make the water feel "not oily". I cringed when I saw that oil slick on top. The video was very entertaining thank you, this was my first time watching you guys.

Completely off topic, but you sound like a person in the know. Philosophy used to have this "hot salt body scrub" (most people remember the Gingerbread version) that you rubbed into dry skin and it made your skin feel so velvety soft and smooth that even strangers would comment on it all the time (better result than pro spa treatments). Like all good things, they sadly discontinued it several years ago, and I finally ran through my stockpile (one jar saved in case I ever get married or go to the Oscars).. No other scrub compares. Most are gross oily messes with mediocre results, whether manufactured or homemade. Have you ever come across a recipe with similar results by any chance?

I know I'm a week late, but just a small suggestion: in kits like this please avoid using the glitter, most companies use non biodegradable glitter, which means that all that plastic ends up into the ocean. It's better to save it for projects that won't be thrown away so quickly like resin art or decoration! I know it isn't their fault and that most people will use the glitter in the bath bombs because it comes with the kit, I just wanted to let them know because we sometimes don't think about things like this. Also I don't know if this specific kit has biodegradable glitter, I'm just saying based on my experience with similar kits! Regardless of that this was such a cool video, I love this expensive x cheap series

Do your sewers end in the ocean? Don't you have waste water treatment plants where your water gets cleaned and filtered?
@teehlfx52383 жыл бұрын
@@dude988 I suggest doing a little research on micro-plastics as well as the water cycle. That stuff eventually gets everywhere and does not go away. You’ve probably eaten some micro plastics today. OP had a simple option for a very real problem.
@dude9883 жыл бұрын
@@teehlfx5238 How does that answer my question? My country has water plants that filter the water. The U.K. for example does has sewers that end in the ocean (south of London). India and China just throw all their trash into the ocean, which resulted in the great trash patch. I can repeat my question but more slowly: Does the countries you live in have water treatment plants or not, and is glitter still a problem in your countries, even when the water is filtered?
@teehlfx52383 жыл бұрын
@@dude988 Not sure what you’re missing but there isn’t a way to filter out micro plastics and because of the water cycle they do ultimately end up in the ocean. So whether someplace has a water treatment facility doesn’t really matter for what the OP is talking about.

@@teehlfx5238 not sure where you take the micro plastic from all the time. OP says 'glitter ends in the ocean', but glitter is big enough to be filtered. One thing I learned in my culinary class in high school is dry measurements and liquid measurements are different, which can explain why the cornstarch wasn’t 2 full cups. This also explains why you use the measuring cups for dry ingredients and the Pyrex jug for measuring wet ingredients. You’re also not supposed to scoop the dry ingredients with the measuring cups you’re supposed to fill it with spoon fulls and scraping off excess with the back of a knife. This prevents packing which can add more of the ingredient than intended. Normally none of this really matters but in baking it does. Idk why I remember this lol.

Next time you guys do bath bomb a few tips to keep in mind : 1 Cover the bowls with some sort of cling wrap damp paper towel or damp dish towel! It'll keep the mixture moist for longer. 2 make sure that it keeps the consistency of almost 'wet sand' if it starts to become too powdery don't be afraid to actually sprits the witch hazel that you had onto the bath bomb mixture itself! I've also seen people use alcohol to help keep the mixture on the moister side with out introducing too much water. I'd definitely say it's up to user preference and how much you want to experiment! I made bath bombs in an art therapy group once and it was pretty fun and easy and they worked well in the bath too. I think we used baby oil and almond oil instead of coconut oil. Is the measurement 'cup' not one universal amount? Why would it differ from baking cups to a pitcher? I'm from germany so the cups and ounces measuremts always confused me lol
@Sakurahearts3 жыл бұрын
@@Kath-Erina dry and liquid measuring cups are not the same unfortunately, although most people use them interchangeably. I’m American and I really wish recipes were in ounce/gram measurement, it would make so much more sense. Sadly kitchen scales aren’t a thing in a majority of households in my area unless you really love to bake. Do you use them much in Germany or are the measuring cups equal across the board in ml/dL?
@Kath-Erina3 жыл бұрын
Yes for baking I mostly use a kitchen scale as well as a measuring pitcher Which has ml and sometimes gramms for flour, sugar, oats etc... But for grams I mostly use the scale, sometimes even for ml because 1mm water/fluids weighs 1 gramm.. And I belive most people do it that way here :)

@@Sans-nk1hj Price out all the parts to make that press and add labor! $575 seems like a lot, but I could make the press myself...........I have a video or two of a much more complicated press like that on my channel, which I built. The aluminum parts are not dirt cheap. You need the cylinder, push hose fittings, hose, extrusion such as 80/20, corner brackets, allen bolts, actuator buttons/valves, aluminum sleeve, plastic top and bottom moulds, base plate, etc. The same company wants $3K for their large press to do 4 bath bombs at one time. I used a similar cylinder for my press and it was less than $100 on Amazon. My press used proximity sensors, micro switches, relays, and air solenoids along with another cylinder to actuate a shuttle to feed the main press/ram. A 12 ton hydraulic press is a much slower and simple device, but it would work. The pneumatic press is something they could build, perhaps with some help from another person with the capability to make the moulds for them. A simple cylinder mould is something they could have done with what they have and it would make a cool video for them to share. The price seemed high at first, but I can't blame the builder for wanting to make a buck for profit. There is something to be said about a product which already had the bugs worked out.......the other automated machine i built, also on my channel, is a rough copy of something I could have bought and automated. Mine still needs some work, but I took the DIY method to challenge my fabrication and welding skills.

I feel like the problem with the more expensive kit at first was that they used some almond oil instead of all coconut oil. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature so it probably helps the bath bombs hold structure a bit. I’m glad it worked eventually though!!

It's probably the part coconut oil part almond oil that made your subsequent bath bombs not stick together as much. Coconut oil solidifies at room temp, so that's how they stick together. Almond oil would make it soft and not hold it together. :)
@VisionaryGardener3 жыл бұрын
I've made these before, and adding the water is actually what helps everything stuck together. Katelyn's bombs needed a bit more water. Once you've made the bombs, you set them out to dry and let the water evaporates, which makes them stay together permanently. The oils actually kind of inhibit the sticking together because they don't dry.

@micheal24583 жыл бұрын
@@2to5Raccoons Yeah, it was a little while ago. People were becoming increasingly uncomfortable with Pewdiepie's remarks, guests, and comment sections. There was too much alt-right rhetoric and jokes, and an increasing amount of white supremacist and neo nazi symbols being used by him, his audience, and guests. Eventually, some of the folks who monitor far right movements were sharing screenshots of their forums and discord channels where these people were referring to Pewdiepie as "our guy," meaning he wasn't one of them, but people who followed him were getting radicalized, and his channel was becoming a pipeline. After a while, I think one or two articles came out discussing the phenomenon, and people told Nerdy Crafter about it, cause she liked and supported him. In response, she posted a video ranting about how everyone was making assumptions and accusations based on reading one article (I never read it, so I'm not sure if people were linking her to it or what), and angrily denouncing all her viewers who tried to talk to her about it. She had a post in the community tab where she was lashing out at people individually for hours. It was pretty alarming. I haven't watched any of her stuff since then, so I dunno if she's apologized or even really heard anyone out since then, but it was kinda scary. And it sucks, cause I loved Jackie's videos. She's funny and good at explaining things!

Most products marketed as eco friendly or biodegradable glitter, don't biodegrade in nature. They need industrial composting to fully break down. Last I checked there was only one company that has made a certified tested biodegradable glitter. And from my understanding there is no way to make holographic glitter eco friendly in any form.

Fun video! I’ve been DIYing bath bombs for a while and I found that I don’t like putting anything in the bath bomb that I don’t want on my body (dyes, glitter, roses). Especially because most glitter is microplastic. The recipe I used was shea butter instead of coconut oil which I like better! I originally had a hard time getting the two halves of a spherical bomb to stick together and tried some aluminum tart tins and that’s what I use now. They don’t roll and store more efficiently than spheres.
