I have the mini and tested it with the 808. My impression was very similar to the video. The 808 has more body, lower freq. more pronounced and is less squeaky than the mini. The mini is good but I liked more the 808. It is important to mention that different pedals with knobs in the same positions do not necessarily imply the same equalization and gain. I tried to match the mini's sound to the 808's by changing the position of the knobs, best results by lowering the tone knob and raising the gain knob

Hey Jason. I've got both of these pedals and I've gotta say, outside of minor variances in pot tolerances, they sound exactly the same to me. But that's just my experience.
@mariocastellanos82312 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. I also have both and I really just feel that the only difference is that one can use a 9v battery and the mini needs to be plugged in all the time (no room for battery). To me it comes down to portability, but sound is almost identical.

I’ll tell you all something: If you take 2 mini’s or 2 808’s side-by-side, you’d find that even they don’t sound identical. If anything, it’s possible that the 808 will be more consistent because of the silicon selection process, but that’s it.

The sound difference (if any) is probably down to the input buffer on the 808 killing some of the high end. Or I don't know, maybe we just play differently with each pedal.
@luizalbertokoehler49042 жыл бұрын
adding a buffered pedal (off) before the mini doesn't make it sound like the 808
@arthurpiccio79062 жыл бұрын
@@luizalbertokoehler4904 The buffer would have to be the same as the one used in the 808. Buffers aren't all the same. The capacitance loading of everything would have to match as well. I don't think it matters a lot in terms of limiting your expressiveness on guitar. It makes zero difference unless we're playing alone, which is often the case, to be fair.

It's hard to know whether what you hear from your amp compares with what I hear on my speakers via KZbin. TBH I can't hear much difference between the two. That said your nice playing does a lot to convey the message of this vid.

I often switch between a TS Mini and Maxon OD-9 on my board. One thing I noticed is that TS Mini sounds way more natural if you power it with a battery (you need dc cable ofcourse), much of the fizz is gone and it’s a bit quieter but less compressed. The problem is, the led light doesn’t represent a battery charge, it will glow full blast even with almost dead battery. Also it eats batteries as it has 20+ mA current draw compared to 808’s 4-6 mA. I will probably go for the full size 808, at stage levels I definitely prefer less compressed sound of a 808 compared to OD-9/TS-9 which ofcourse you can’t hear through youtube compression. For now I stick mostly with Maxon. Although TS Mini sounds less compressed in a 808 vain, it basically sounds the way it looks, a toy tubescreamer, Maxon is way fatter on high notes and has more integrity to the sound. Again, I compare them on stage in a tight band mix where you can really hear minute differences.

Does your ts mini have that popping sound coming out of the amp everytime you turn it on/off?

In my opinion buying the mini is a bit like wanting to make fun of yourself (I would like to but I can't ..). It has everything less than the original pedal. Honestly better to add some more money and get a used ts-9. Otherwise for the same price I recommend the Electro harmonix Crayon. Sounds way better than the mini tubescreamer.

Ibanez would be committing suicide if the much cheaper mini had the same tone as the 808! It is not due to a lack of technical capacity but rather a marketing issue. I came to this conclusion too late!🥲
