Vostok has so much going for them: original design, a respectable history, dated but innovative case design, quirky watch faces, automatic, in house movement that are solid, easy to maintain and cheap to replace, great dome plexiglass, screw down crown and a gazillion meters water resistance. These are rock solid watches at a great price. I wish you could see past the wobbly crown and see these watches for what the are: great value for the money. I agree with the statement that cheap is not the same as good. And Pagani, Invicta and all those cheap knock off watches lack originality and value, imo. But I prefer my Vostok Amphibia over many other watches! VOSTOK FOREVER! 🇷🇺🏴☠️

The "wobbly" crown is not connected to anything until it needs to be, i.e. when setting the time/winding. So hitting the crown on something won't transfer force into the movement. I'd call that clever engineering, not "designed to be trash" but whatever floats your boat my dude.

100% agree. In fact I bought my dads Komanderskie last night and it being a manual wind I was a little more iffy about the wobbly crown than my Amphibia but nope, no issue. Pull it out a tad while winding and it's all good. Vostok makes great stuff.

I have a Pagani Design PD-1645. I bought the watch knowing fully well that it was a blatant rip off of the datejust and that there was a risk that I would get a lemon. It is a gamble, no doubt about it. With this being said, the only negatives I've found so far is that the clasp is a bit sharp on the edges and the clasp extension is really hard to pop out and place back in. The watch has an nh35 movement, sapphire crystal, solid link jubilee bracelet with screw links, milled clasp, display case back, cyclops that actually magnifies well and is not too far off center. All this for less than 100 USD. The kicker, the NH35 in it when on wrist runs roughly +3 seconds a day... How can I not be satisfied with this. I can't afford to spend 9k on a datejust, I wish I could, but I can't. I bought the watch because I like the design but am not rich enough to get a real Rolex. I don't pretend it's a Rolex either, I know exactly what I have and I enjoy it every time it's on wrist. Feel free to not like it and dislike it due to the fact that it's an homage. I understand your point of view, I just happen to disagree with it. Bang for buck, it's hard to get better specs than that.

You do realise that the name is copied from a car company Pagani, Pagani Design seems like a Chinese man idea of a cool brand name, A, the name- Porsche Design ~ Pagani Design. B, the design, Rolex Daytona ~Pagani design $75 watch. I'm a huge fan of Pagani's craftsmanship, I know I won't be never able to afford one, but the design, the science, the perfection that goes into making the Zonda or the huayra is just astonishing. I can't digest that some stupid guy would come into the scene out of nowhere and trademark the name and have sucess at the name of Horacio's hardwork. Just look at the craftsmanship of a Zonda or a Huayra, you might just throw your "Pagani Design" out the window.
@chriszivoder26504 жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of homage watches but I completely agree with your comment. Some people/most people can't afford or even want to pay £10k on a watch. So to be able to enjoy the design without breaking the bank is gap in the market that can be exploited and I for one understand that to be a good thing. I just hope it doesn't detract those companies from making their own original designs though.
@damyr4 жыл бұрын
While I can't understand why they just verbatim copy/paste other design instead of making their own, or at least enriching someone else's with a bit of twist (how hard is to design a freaking dial???), companies like Pagani certainly demonstrate how stupid is to give too much money for a watch from a big ass company, as they are totally overpriced. That said, I would never buy a Rolex, even if I'm a billionaire. Paying $20k (like the new Submariner) for something which is worth about $500-1,000 max is just monumentally stupid (and I don't even want to mention how they made it worse than Chinese as its bezel isn't aligned with the dial). Actually, I consider such people are nothing but a bunch of clowns. And btw, I just remembered Bill Gates who wears a $20 Casio. At least there's one smart rich man.

I can't agree on the vostok. I am not a Vostok fanboy, my dad has a Vostok Komandirskie from 30 years ago and it still runs. Already the history behind the brand makes this a very interesting time piece to have. The Vostok Amphibia is a fun watch to to go swimming, or doing other types of activities without being scared to break it. They also have in house movements ( I know the movements are absolutely not the best but still having an in house movement in such an affordable watch is very unique). I wouldn't hate too much on that brand, but that's just my opinion

So, while your opinion is to be respected as much as anyone else's, you're also entitled to be "wrong", as you are here about the Vostok. You were also "wrong" about the Casio Duro. Wrong is in quotations here because it's all subjective, but also because they are in fact very good timepieces. Both capable of taking incredible amounts of pressure (over the advertised number, the Vostok as much as 800m), and outperforming luxury watches designed for the same purpose. However, props for being willing to take the abuse and not shying away from the negative comments, as other known watch KZbinrs are well known to do.

I own both a Vostok and a few Pagani Design’s and I know exactly what they are. I bought the Vostok because it has a great history and is a cool quirky watch I love wearing. I bought the Pagani Design’s because I like the style of the original watches but know I could never justify the cost of buying the original design. For the price the materials are better than anything else at that price point. I also think these homages don’t hurt the original designers at all. If anything they may help them. One of the things that you don’t mention about many of these homage brands is that there is an advantage to their generic build. Pagani design, steeldive or other brands like them, produce nh35 movement watches with decent water resistance. This makes them great watch mod candidates, as with a simple dial and hand swap you can have a more unique looking watch, with decent materials such as sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel, with decent wr, but at an affordable price. So even if you take issue with homage watches, which I personally don’t, they can still represent a good purchase. This is especially true with seiko watches going up in price, making them a less attractive option as a mod base.

I must say my friend, that for me a $100 watch is an expensive watch. $100 is 884,83 swedish kronas. For me a cheap watch is under 100 Swedish krona. I own a real Casio G-Shock Mudman, a Casio Waveceptor, and a Casio Mudmaster. The Waveceptor was the cheapest of these for 600 Swedish kronas, the Mudman 2500 Swedish kronas, and the Mudmaster 5200 Swedish kronas. I use these watches when i on my job or out with people, but when i am working in my garden or out hunting or fishing i use a cheap Honhx sportwatch for 54 Swedish kronas as a beater watch. A Casio F91w is about 200 Swedish kronas. A bit ranting from me.

Things i learned about watch collecting and also about the community. 1. Do your research 2. More money dont mean better quality and cheaper homages arent worth it (aka you dont get what you pay for) 3. Under 1k is considered the low end 4. Community either loaded with snobs or don’t understand what makes a good watch (rolex snobs or 17 dollar ppl claim its good quality from amazon for example) 5. Save money for a watch you like (currently saving for a Seiko alpinist spb117 with the cyclops as my graduation watch) 6. Its fun to just look at watches and find the unique ones (even rolex has unique ones) 7. People may not understand your new hobby but thats ok 8. Everyone you talk to about watches collector or not is happy to talk about whats on the wrist 9. Buy used, make sure the seller is credible, whether online or a dealer (so u dont get like idk a fake omega) 10. Buy what you enjoy and buy something that makes you fall in love with it. (I have a Dan Henry 1964 chrono and i sold MTG cards for it and i love the thing). If you want the Bostok amphibia go for it. Want that mickey mouse one? Go for it.

Nobody is buying a Pagani Design is thinking "wow, Pagani has created some really awesome designs". What we are thinking is "wow, I can buy this good watch that looks like a Rolex and have enough money left over to buy a new car". The watch that you propose to save up and buy instead looks nothing like a Rolex Daytona. You are making your critic's point for them.

I agree with the overall argument that a cheap watch is not necessarily a good watch, but it should be determined case by case. For example, the Pagani Design Daytona homage is an excellent watch for the price, because it has all the criteria of a good watch: sapphire crystal, ceramic tachymeter bezel, Seiko Meca-Quartz movement, good finishing, and a great bracelet. Even watches made by Seiko in the same price category doesn't necessary get all the good stuffs like that Pagani Design.

I have a Pagani Hulk version and its +3 seconds a day, has a nice bracelet, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel. It's also $12,730 cheaper than a Rolex. I bought it after seeing a review, just one more watch, a d I love it. Nice polish case a d highly recommend one. It took 7 weeks from Alie Express and I have gotten 5 watches from them, and never an issue. I only buy affordable. I have looked at Breitling, Tudor, Oris but I enjoy my Pagani, Cadisen, Guinqin Moon phase, Vostok I got from Meramon which is a 24hour white dial and to me, such a cool watch. I now have a Zelos Swordfish Titanium black sand dial I am wearing a d it has the same movement as my Pagani. I just bought a Phoibos Bronze Leviathan 45mm black dial I adore. It's fun to just wear a watch that no one has

I get that you don't like homages, and that's fine. But you act like you don't even understand the _concept_ of homages. Someone who wants to buy that Pagani Designs "Daytona" isn't going to be interested in the Dailos watch. It's not a good alternative to the Daytona clone. A _different_ Daytona clone would be a good alternative. I've got a Pro Diver. I didn't buy it because of its original design. I didn't _want_ an original design. I liked the looks of a Submariner, but I don't have Submariner money. And the Pro Diver has held up for a few years now. Is it as good as a Submariner? No. But I don't hold an $80 watch to the same standards that I'd hold an $8,000 watch.

Comparing a $17 watch, to a $500 watch, is like comparing a Seiko, to a Patek Philippe. The Seiko would not look good at all. That wouldn't mean Seiko's are garbage. It's all about the metrics you are measuring against. Of course for the money, you wouldn't expect the Seiko to compare. Exactly the point. You expect the Skmei to compare. Why?

Back in the days of the Soviet Union they nailed a Vostok Amphibia to a submarine, took it down to 1000m, and it still worked. Jory The problem with F91 Casino's priced from $9-20 is that they are forgeries. I paid $20 for one that looses 30 seconds per day. I only discovered it was a forgery after I Googled Casio F91W and found the test procedure Casio integrated into the beautiful and practical watch. I am now going to buy a real one which will cost me $40 in Australia from a reputable company. And as you say, it's a great value REAL watch. Phil.
@carlod8034 жыл бұрын
Probably not all of them, bought mine for $9 from Casio itself.
@phillipmoodie90714 жыл бұрын
@@carlod803 I have to agree with your comment because I realised after I posted mine that my claim could not be substantiated. But based on my follow through on the investigation that revealed the CASIO test I found enough references to prove that it is a very large scale issue. The problem started when I could not find a F91W for sale in any major Department Store in Melbourne Australia and could only find one seemingly well established company selling online in Australia, but at twice the price of the other apparent online sellers. Melbourne's 100 year old Department Store Myer has a Casio speciality shop in its Jewelry Department, but they don't display the F91W. My excuse for my sloppy proofreading is that I am in the COVID 19 Intensive Care Ward of The Alfred Hospital and I was finally cleared yesterday after arriving at the hospital 10 weeks ago when I was told that my infection was so far advanced that I had no more than two days to live. The next morning the Doctor in charge of the COVID 19 Intensive Care Ward met with me to personally explain that I would not be able to get through the day. He then said that when I collapsed he would no permit the use of one of the very scarce respirators, because I was 82 and it would be of little benefit. But he did say that they would try and help me die as painless as possible. Well I am now the last patient in Critical Care and I am now being put into total isolation for 7 days so that I can go home. The only entertainment I have had during this time was a $A40 4inch smartphone that I had in my pocket when I was taken to hospital, that I had bought the day before at the local Post Office to use as a spare phone, because it would fit into my wallet. But a four inch screen is better than sitting by yourself in total isolation for 10 weeks, but I did get to watch all of Jory's ancient YT presentations. So when I am finally back in the World I will find a genuine Casio "With all papers" along with a genuine factory warranty card. So be careful because dying from the COVID infection is the most boring death imaginable. Phil.

Jory, I want to start by saying that I truly enjoy your content and I don't think you ARE a snob (although you are kind of acting like one in this particular video). You're entitled to your opinion, but remember that it is just that, an opinion. There are several flaws in your argument here. First, to just gloss over the Vostok crown and say that "it was designed to be trash" is ridiculous. It's NOT a malfunction as you call it, it's designed to avoid damaging the crown stem if bumped. That ACTUALLY is innovation, whether you choose to accept it or not. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's not serving a purpose. Also, to brush off Pagani, saying they don't have good specs and then immediately talk about the Dailos using "rare materials" like sapphire glass and ceramic, even though the Pagani also uses sapphire glass and has a ceramic bezel insert. The Pagani also uses a Seiko Vk63 mecha-quartz movement. Pretty good specs for a watch that's under $100. I understand that you don't like homages, but you need to realize that there are A LOT of collectors out there who do. Lastly, I can only speak to my own experience, but I've never had an issue with AliExpress. Actually, my experience has been the opposite, I've actually had a few times when I've waited a long time for an item, they've refunded me my money and then later the item arrived and they did not ask for it back. Like I said in the beginning, I appreciate your content and I'm a loyal subscriber, I just wish you'd open your mind a bit when it comes to things like this.

I have 2 pagani. I'm deciding to pull the trigger on another omega. I have own quite a few medium high end watches. The pagani is the 100m daytona and the other is a black ceramic gmt on jubilee. I can take the pagani out without feeling paranoid ! The look without the worry! Also, I went to the pagani store and paid full retail with the hope of some guarantee and better quality control. My instincts were correct! Both watches are great with no problems or niggles ( sometimes its worth not being a cheapskate, especially for the sake of a couple of quid. Its not like its hundreds difference as in omega ! ) . Lastly, I think ali express is where all the duds go and why there are so many offers... they need to get rid. Hey is it fair to call the Vostok trash when the crown, from what I've heard, was designed to be floppy to help prevent breakages? I see this in modern collectables were parts are designed to be flexable or pop off instead of actually breaking. Otherwise I agree with most of what you've said here.

Even though I like my Invicta pro diver which I optioned out for a scalp bezel for more difference of the Rolex, but those Mercedes hands just bothers me all the time I look at the watch. Not because I don't like the look (which is true), but because it is unoriginal. It bothers me that they missed an opportunity to create something close, but still unique enough like Orient Ray/Mako, Seiko SKX etc.. But nope. They went bold and ripped the Rolex off. Which is just stupid. Just imagine if they would have done like different hands, bezel, hour markings while keeping original proportions.. everybody would just love that watch without calling it a rip off. Same applies to any other Pagani, Phoibos, Steeldive etc.. brand. Just so many missed opportunities.

I agree cheap copycats suck. Also, I agree cheap quartz watches where they simply slap on a brand name and charge $200+ also suck. However, there are a lot of cool watches under $75 that are not Casio or Timex. However, for some reason it seems like no one ever talks about them. When it comes to watches under $75 it’s like watch people are only allowed to talk about Casio and Timex, two brands that are not my style which probably has to due with seeing people getting teased for wearing those brands in high school, I know silly reason but those brands just not my cup of tea. How about a cheap watch video with watches no one knows about? You cannot mention Casio, Timex, Orient, or Seiko. I do like/own Orient watches but I find watch KZbinrs always seem to over rely on these brands when touting good cheap watches instead of finding something unique and original in the sub $75 range.
