Cheap way to preserve finishes in the can

Most finishes solidify when they're exposed to oxygen, or when the solvents evaporate. This can be avoided by adding some propane to the can before closing the lid. I guess you don't need to watch the video now, but if you're interested in the long version I managed to drag that point on for three minutes and included a common-sense safety tip.

Bloxygen is only about $10.95 at woodworking stores. They offer a 100% guarantee if a can has leaked or something. See www.bloxygen.com for more. I would not recommend propane. It's not inert.

I didn't expect my first reply to be from the owner of Bloxygen www.bloxygen.com/about.html. I guessed a little high on the price when I was recording, which is why I put the screenshot from Rocker ($11.99 + shipping). Propane is not inert, but it doesn't need to be - It just needs to be free of oxygen and not react with the finish. I like Blogygen and that was the first can I had that leaked, but it's still triple the price of propane.

Nice tip. I use a lot of tung oil and I store it in mason jars and evacuate the air with food saver vacuum sealer (they have an attachment for mason jars).
