I'm in my 70's so I've never done any video conferencing before, but I find myself in that situation with my friends, Bible Study Group, and family. This was a huge help to me. I am going to send it on to others. You are very down-to-earth and pleasant. Thank you for making this video. Can't wait to see others.

This is wonderful. You're a real human. It feels like you have our best interests in mind, and you really want us to look our best. No gimmicks, no millennials' beauty tricks because I'm 64, and I have jowls and sagging neckline and bags under my eyes. It's really depressing. I want to start a KZbin channel, but I'm daunted by the way I look. But your friendly easy to listen to manner is giving me courage. Thank you.

Cindy Howard good point Cindy, but do u think the person who would have the type of stuff going on in the background and not give it a thought, would bother with SuperPHdiva? Tacky classless people don’t believe that their background of debris, unmade bed, screaming kids running back and forth, really don’t care.

I had my first video chat with my daughter and two grandchildren. It was a surprise call and we are on quarantine but I was fully dressed and my hair was combed. I am 73 and I was horrified that I looked like an old crone. I finally told my daughter to send the kids out of the room because I was sure I was scaring them! Later, I worked with a pile of books to get my I pad out from under my chin and I will definitely put on eye makeup! Good tips for those of us who are still emerging from the Stone Age.

Oh I LOVE you! You covered it all! I have 2 conference calls tomorrow and this really helps! I have done a few things you mentioned which I will try not to do tomorrow. Its so nice to have a lady close to my age (I am 61) who gets it and understands how important it is as we get older, to be careful of angles, lighting, and what I am doing while I am on camera. I am probably not going to be attentive at all, as I will be looking at all the things everyone is doing wrong!! For once, I am looking forward to a conference call! Thanks Bobbie, looking forward to watching more of your videos :-)

I stumbled onto this video, but I'm not a woman 50 plus. I'm a man 60 plus. And although this video is somewhat highly tuned for women 50 plus, I found most of the advice here excellent for us men, too, except I'm not sure what to think about the make-up specific information. Everything else seems highly useful--the lighting advice, awareness of the background, sound, the size and position of your face in the video, the left-right-up-down balance of lighting. The smiling part also seems applicable, although I know that socially there is a feeling that men are generally not expected to smile as much as women in some circles. I also find it interesting that when I am photographed, sometimes I think I'm giving a huge smile, or I feel as though I am smiling largely, but when I see the photograph, it doesn't look like I'm smiling at all. I can see how practicing before a camera can be huge. Anyway, thank you for your excellent advice, even though I know you were intending it to be heard primarily by women over 50. I think men and women over 50 tend to lose that feeling that one gender is somehow spying to listen to advice targeting the other gender, so it's all pretty much normal and helpful and appreciated, too. I hope you don't mind that a man listened in or that men might find this useful, too.

This is photography lighting 101. Extreme side lighting is called "split light", when the one side falls into shadows. Light from below is called "ghoul light" because it makes you look like, well, a ghoul, l0l. The pillow case is reflecting the main light into the shadows like a reflector. The BEST light is from 45* to the side of the face and slightly above. Cheers!!

What a great and informative video! I'm not part of your target audience, but still enjoyed all the tips. I work as a teacher, and have been trying to look as professional as possible on camera. My desk is now facing a window, which has improved lighting enormously. One thing that still bothers me, however, is that my eye color still appears way darker than it is. Ideally, I would have to sit so much closer to a light source (and blind myself in the process) in order to get my eyes to look hazel green instead of black. I have ordered a ring light, which I hope will help improve things.

Wonderful tips . I’m a 47yo high school math teacher forced onto Zoom to have class. I needed your tips! My only dissent is the drinking. Teaching for 40 minutes, I could not survive without sipping from a water bottle. I’m hoping it’s not as bad as you make it out to be, because with medications that dry me out, there is no other alternative. My mouth would be so dry I would be rendered mute! I’m definitely putting much of what you said into practice straight away!

I'm a new viewer-fan. My hair is white and I normally add blond to darken it...so while in quarantine, the blonde faded and my hair is now platinum like Marilyn Monroe! Thanks for your suggestions for video conferencing. I started working at home 2 weeks ago and just using the technology for the first time is daunting. I will try out your placement suggestions as I am alternating between iPad and laptop. I think my lighting fits your recommendations and with cloudy days I have definitely noticed the change in level of natural light. It’s so helpful for you to share your expertise with all of us. One funny thing since we moved to work at home makes me smile every time I think about it...we got an email and it said “wear bottoms in case you have to step away to get something during the meeting”. I wondered if it was because something happened in one of our meetings or if it was just a tip that came from some kind of ‘top 10 things to avoid list’. Either way it still makes me smile when I think about it. You look terrific today! Take care and stay safe!

Great information thanks for sharing and I do agree with everything you said, a few weeks ago I was on a group call and one lady was wearing a strapless dress and kept playing with her long hair. My first thought was are you kidding! Is she sitting there nude? She kept playing with her hair almost like she was posing for a photoshoot. It was so distracting I was not able to pay attention to the actual meeting and what was being said. There were times I was able to move her off the screenshot, but then she would reappear. I just wanted to log out of the meeting but of course was not able to. More people need to see your video. Thank You for sharing.

Thank you, so much! That was so helpful! Our book club met on Zoom this month & I was not at all prepared. Next month will be much better. Also, face timing with grands will be more fun. You are a treasure! 💕😷💕

I felt the same way and found an inexpensive camera filter that flat mounts over my laptop and phone cameras that evens out my skin (unevenness and wrinkles) so I feel more confident on my video calls. Think the 'Barbara Walters Effect' or do you remember 'Cybill Shepherd on Moonlighting'? @t. You can find it on Amazon, e-bay, etsy. I don't attend a video chat without mine!
