Here’s an idea (?): How about comparing reels based on time in age and not cost. Growing up fishing with grandparents and family, one can see hand me down gear pushing 100+ years old. A lot of this stuff is on eBay, Craigslist, etc (see: garage sales). How would it compare fishing on gear that’s quite (or very!) old vs modern and new gear. Maybe we will all be surprised at how similar it all really is. After a good cleaning and oiling of course. Fishing on old gear is fun as it makes you realize how long your species has been doing what you’re doing.

I know this is old but I have 4 of these wish reels they tend to be weight specific I only use braid 20 to 50lb once set up they work fine have caught many bass, catfish, and trout you just have to stick to a weight for each line.. I also have an Abu black max which is a shade better but was 30 more but I use it for fluor..17 lb.. Cheap fishing oh yes..but allows me to be ready with several baits..the fish don't seem to care..

this is the first video i watched of yours. i enjoyed it and i subed. but just one thing i notice "in this video" is that you're relying on the reel to control your bait. your thumb should be the the number 1 control. the spool tension should be loose with light side to side play, and you control the rest with your thumb and brakes. your thumb should always hover the spool. so when it starts to flare up you will feel it and can start pushing down to control that birds nest. most of the time once it starts hitting your thumb it will start to slow the spool down enough to control its own speed and preventing a birds nest. Keep up the good work!

I liked Kast King baitcasters for their price before finding Wish. Curious long before seeing this video, I did much the same tests with Wish's 18-bearings reels, and I did not snarl them any more than my high-priced reels -- right out of the box at that. Nor did they make undue sounds while reeling or casting. Their performance depends a lot on your performance in properly setting up the reel and using your thumb correctly. Maybe the one tested here was a lemon, but I've got seven Wish reels, and they all perform well, and hold up over time. I'm very satisfied. Bottom line, I didn't find enough of a difference to continuing paying a higher price. Besides, you can get a brand new 17+1-bearing reel for the price of a professional off-season cleaning.

I tried a spinning reel from Wish and was seriously impressed. I’m glad you’re doing the comparison on a bait caster. I’ve tried a few things from Wish with varying degrees of quality. The pronunciation of the name is “Sue-gay-uh-Lang.” That company is big in Asia. The spinning reel I got from Wish is actually a very good reel. It isn’t the same brand. It is quiet and smooth. Some of the baits I’ve purchased from Wish are really good for the price. I’ve also got some good deals on braided line that is not quite the quality of big US brand names, but still extremely good for the price. I’ve learned that Wish is hit and miss, but if you’re on a strict budget, most of their products are not bad. I really like your videos. Keep em coming.

U have to consider rods tho. Some reels need a lighter 1 piece rod to avoid slack in the line on cast which is number one reason for back lash. Honestly i picked up a cast rod and I hate anything else since I got one. Even the headache of a bird nest is better than tangling your line around the outer bearings of ur spin rod.

Great for shaky heads, light t rigs, drop shots and crank baits , great all purpose rod. These cheap reels may cast good and I'd say some are really good in all aspects, except one. Longevity. They just don't last. I had a $40 from Amazon and it lasted 2 fishing seasons. Tried oiling it, didn't help, it makes a grinding noise, I think the bearings are shot. I think I got what I paid for. $40 for 2 summers isn't too bad, when I had spinning reels for $60 quit on me in 2 months.

Nice vid. Trying to get my lil brother into using baitcasters seems like it would be good for him to try on thanks

I have that exact reel LoJo. I had to add another tension knob disc inside, so that I could tighten the spool tension screw enough. I fish it with 50lb braid on a 7’6 frog rod. It’s not as smooth as a high dollar reel but it is plenty good for $30

Lojo I love how you proofed and missed so many fishes on that cheap reel, but I wanted to try with it.

I'd use the reel. Right now I have a 12 year old generic baitcaster I never really used and no longer works (cleaning it didn't go too well...) and the Piscifun Torrent. I wonder how it compares to the latter.

I really want to see you and Fishing with Norm rig up like three reels and fish on eachothers rigs to see who can catch the most fish. Try to stump one another, the way you two are together I think that would make for a really fun video. Both for you to make and for us to watch. That's my "wish", haha.

When I started bass fishing in 1988 a $29.00 reel was the cat's meow. Today I choose the Shimano Calcutta D for round reels, and a Daiwa Tatula HD for a low pro reel. Back in the Day I would have loved to have a Speed Spool.

Can u help us here with a great "CHALLENGE + TEACHING" for Ultralight fishing for bass/walleye...explaining how you can use heavy braid (~10-15 pound braid on ultralight rod/reel (rod says 2-6lb test)..BUT-->the diameter of ~10lb braid is the same diameter as 6lb floro/mono. Makes fighting fish more fun, and line nor pole will break due to the soft tip but strong line....it's so fun, people will fall in love with it!!!

if you came to malaysia , most of anglers in here usually use braided line as main line and fluorocarbon as shock leader especially when casting

I have several of the wish (fish drops ) with 2 break system reels, with a little fine tuning I fish everything from 1/4 oz up to 3/8 oz and mine work great and are smooth and quiet. I fish bass tournaments and catch fish with my low cost reels. But I can get the same performance without spending an arm and leg on a high priced markup reel.

I own a Shakespeare EZ cast and it is kinda terrible but I make it work. You should do a video using. I'm super interested in getting a Lew's speed spool LFS series. Keep up the great work with these awesome videos

Hey LoJo, I sure could use that reel for my 7 yr. old boy's fishing pole. He's been wanting a bait cast reel for awhile. He's been playing around with mine and wants on of his own. Love the videos and keep them coming.
