These do measure flatter than the Mk i, more importantly the crossover point avoids the really bad phase issues of the OG. So really this is just a improved more refined version of the "Klipsch sound" without the flaws and thats a good thing.

Good review, You’re right they do mate better with certain amps, I have the original 600m’s and have them mated with my Marantz 1511 receiver, the 1511 has a setting that you can roll off the highs a little which sounds wonderful with my 600m’s. I love these speakers.

Good review. I recently picked up the original RP600Ms directly from Klipsch for $250. Couldn’t resist. Regarding the soundstage on these speakers: sitting near field with the speakers 6 feet apart and toed in slightly, the music sounds like it’s coming from the speakers, between the speakers, or directly in front of you, as well as over the speakers. It’s really pretty incredible and I have no idea how they accomplish this.

Pairing is a great point/issue to raise that I suspect a lot of people are not aware of. I’ve said before, the 600M to me was quite harsh, shrill even at higher levels when paired with a mid range class D. The 600 MII is less harsh up high, but still has that Klipsch sound. They both sounded nice at lower levels paired to a small tube amp. I want a speaker that can play loud, but not one that is fatiguing, so do I get a different speaker, or just turn down the treble?

Thanks for the review. You closed with pairing, and it’s been on my mind so much lately. Do subwoofers also benefit from thoughtful pairing or is clean bass more the same across the board. If I’m getting Klipsch speakers is there a strong reason to stick to Klipsch subwoofer?
@buffal0bilious2 жыл бұрын
The Fletcher Munson thing comes into play for me. I live in an apartment and am very conscious of not being rude to my neighbors, and I've never liked listening to music that loud anyway, so a speaker with a mild bump in the treble and bass works for me. It makes the music feel just a little more alive at the fairly low volumes I listen at. "Cranking it" (something I almost never do) for me is maybe 70db. Most of my listening is probably more like the mid-to-low 60s.
@rehn1kri2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with this. I’ve tried out lots of different speakers for fun in the last few years and I’ve definitely discovered that I gravitate towards slightly “U/V-shaped” speakers because I almost always listen at sub-80db volumes. I totally respect speakers with a ruler flat response and get why it’s an engineering goal, but a lot of those flat-measuring speakers sound lifeless to me a low volumes.
@peterbaugh512 жыл бұрын
All spekers sound better with a tube amp at any volume. Try one. Its like a tube amp has "auto loudness" function full time. But behaves when you turn it up. Some solid state amps sound great down low with loudness on, if you can find one. Agreed.
@HiFiWright2 жыл бұрын
Randy, if you ever get the chance and/or come across any vintage B&K Components amplifiers like the ST-140 or EX-442 etc., Snag one up and pair your Klipsch RP-500m or 600II to it. I'm convinced there is absolutely no better of a solid state amp matching combo for the Klipsch sound signature. Even better than pairing with my vintage NAD 3020 Series 20 amp (both are considered warm). The B&K amps are like a budget-minded Nelson Pass design with super short signal paths and far better than his budget ADCOM stuff he personally designed that were their primary rivals of the time and classics as well. Stereophile raved over them and even said that the ST-140 was the first enjoyable solid state amp they had ever heard when searching for something that was reminiscent of tube amps. Budget king amps of the late 80s and 90s. IMO the very best vintage/used value amplifier one can possibly buy when searching for the highest value warm sounding amplifier, used of course. New I agree with your Cambridge recommendation. 👍🏻Klipsch and a B&K ST-140 on eBay for around $200-400 will beat almost any amplifier/Klipsch combo until you get to several THOUSAND dollars for new gear. Maybe if I get a second B&K soon I'll send you an ST-140 to borrow haha 😅😁👍🏻🤘🏻 as always, much love, brother! I hope you've been enjoying Metallica live videos as much as I have with hell being frozen over aka Lars playing on original tempo and more importantly, TIGHT, and James' voice sounding better than 10 years ago. Yes, we are alive, and, Damn, it feels good. Cannot kill the battery 😎

The tweeters are still quite hot, almost the same response between the MKI and MKII versions. The biggest difference is that the new 500 and 600 don't have the big dip between 2 and 3khz that the originals have

So..you and I have very similar music tastes! Add some Kix, Kiss, Panterra! I'm redoing my entire system and was planning to get these along with the Rotel A12MKII. But, someone brought up the Sonos Faber Lumina 1 or 2's. They are twice the cost. But which would you go for with the type of music listed?!

You have good taste in music. I've had the 600's with a Rotel A14. Sure, they are fun and kicks a punch, but at least the originals had a big hole where the main midrange should meet the tweeter. That results in electric guitars that sounds thin and without body and "meat". It was hard to get a subwoofer to meet the speaker at the right crossover, also making for a "hole" in the presentation. The Klipsch's are great for radio pop and standard rock, but not so much for Heaven's On Fire or Cowboys From Hell 😄 After a year I bought a pair of JBL HDI-3600 instead and they satisfy me to great lengths 😄

@@TheMack back when music was fun! My Black Sabbath, Dio, Ozzy, Iron Maiden albums are still close to my heart. Fell back in love with vinyl also...the way its going, this gift to myself is going to be $$$$. I have enough expensive hobbies! Lol

@@kawlreaper he he, so true! I love all those bands, was listening to Black Sabbath live album "The End", man just listen to "Dirty women"! The mix is great and sounds killer! Although, unfortunately, for us metal heads, judging a hi-end system when playing Ozzy's "Crazy babies" is not exactly "hi-fi" 😅 Nowadays I buy equipment that plays MY music well, even if it was recorded in a pizza box 😄

If Amir is to be believed Klipsch really tanked it with the Mk1 - beats me but that woofer seems to have potential.

I think that was mostly based on the dip in the frequency response. Most agree that was intentional, and not a mistake. The drivers can be EQd to put that section flatter if you desire, and with that in mind I think the speaker performs relatively ok.

@@erics.4113 Fair point and I accept that I was probably overly critical based on one man's opinion (and measurements). He - like many others - is obsessed with a flat frequency response and that might not be what the Klipsch engineers were aiming for in that price bracket.

Specs are never complete or all encompassing, which renders them somewhat unusable. It is so much easier to perceive a given amount of loudness between 750 and 2 kHz, than it is above and below that range, so standardized SPL measurements could maybe be best represented @ 1.25 kHz; but since, however, it takes much more sound to perceive low frequencies and high frequencies at the same volume, so I’ve got a wonder that, even if the readings are averaged over frequency, how would one ever really know how “easy” it is to drive a pair of loudspeakers to get decent low frequency response. 😉 It seems to me that any speaker with a forward sound and a high SPL rating may be just as hard or harder to drive to a decent out bass output than one with a few dB lower.. 🤔 i’ve heard Randy say in the past that speakers with lower SPL numbers were louder than other speakers with higher numbers, suggesting that some manufacturers were cheating or lying or whatever, but it’s all in the definition and the implementation of the test, which is usually not reported; only the standard X dB SPL@1W@1meter. You even have to make assumptions about where the measuring device is placed at that distance in front of the face of the speaker cabinet 🤣

Is that audiophile ivy? All reviewers have audiophile graded plants. Which does give the best sound dispersion?😂
