I have had my 2023 model extended range for 6 months now, absolutely love it, I did tons of research before buying, with special attention to the long term viability of the brand, and as they control and produce pretty much the entirety of their supply chain, so I guess I’m buying into something that will be here in years to come, which is more then I could say about many other EV manufacturers. The Eagers group is pretty anal about you touching anything with the electrical system, I had asked them at time of purchase weather I could get an auto electrician to wire in a 12 volt socket in the back cargo area, they were pretty straightforward with there answer of “No”, Tonnes of accessories online, I’ve got the roof racks, step sides, seat covers, storage trays in all sorts of locations ! Attention BYD, this is an amazing little car, but how about a 12 volt socket in the back ? Some fog lights ? A frunk that is officially supported by BYD, a bigger and better system for the instrument cluster, perhaps with an adjustable mechanism to slide it back further for those of us that are just requiring reading glasses. 🤓 but don’t wear them when driving. More apps, I understand why you don’t want people sideloading apps, but Waze would be amazing ! Bigger and better door bottle bins, seems like there is space there for them.

What kind of range do you get? Did it reduce over the 6 months of ownership? Also, are there any rust issues with your unit?
@Naapeajaea4 ай бұрын
@@duitakarbhat a) - off the op of my head I’m not sure but it’s not the advertised range, although not much under it, mostly due to the standard used to measure this range. B) - I’ve had no noticeable degradation, there is definitely some, in the sense of it’s not the same as when you initially get the car. C) - rust is not an issue, as I can see… I guess only time will tell, but they do hot dip galvanise their panels. Some of this is just a beat up, but it was mostly based on people that were salvaging used BYDs, so the galvanising was compromised due to prior panel damage. I looked into all these things before purchase also, 👍 sixt rentals have heaps of Attos for hire, hire one for a week or two and see how you feel about it. That’s what I had to do anyway since the wait time for my BYD was over a month or so at the time.

@@duitakarbhat I estimate the absolute maximum, driving optimally for range, is about 455km. That requires driving in good dry weather conditions at about 23C at a steady speed of 85kmh in ECO mode. I have checked this down to 10% capacity remaining, so am fairly confident it's achievable. In the cut and thrust of everyday driving, range is about 355km. I love the on board lady voice assistant. Sweet voice, beautiful English, making each of my driving trips never a boring experience.❤ As for charging, i have learnt to adapt to a new habit. Charge the car as and when i can, near my house, or at places of visit, regardless of % (and always keep the charge level above 30%). So range is not an issue. Matt good review. One point you mention the regen is ‘limited’. No it doesn’t have one pedal driving but the system uses about the top one third of brake application as regen before the friction brakes engage. This is the same philosophy that Porsche uses and they’ve produced lots of info as to why they believe this produces more recovery than the one pedal system. I find it fine although lots of folk are really after one pedal…… more a preference than a true ‘better’ regen system

@@budawang77what are the negatives? Genuinely curious, as we are considering sealion for a 2nd car to keep the km's down on our big 4x4 built for touring and towing.
@budawang774 ай бұрын
@@Mouldyturnip75 If you already own a 4x4 and need a second car for your other (mostly urban) needs then I think an EV makes a lot of sense. The only type of hybrid that makes sense to me is the plug in hybrid. However, PHEV purchase prices are now comparable to that of full EVs and will cost more to maintain in the long run. Hybrids are complex machines sharing most of the many moving parts of a regular ICE car plus an electric drive train. If you buy a Tesla, for example, you're basically only paying for new tyres and wipers every couple of years so there's potentially a big saving there. Provided you can charge at home and do long commutes, you'll be saving a ton on fuel. EVs generally also tend to have more power and torque than hybrids which some people find attractive. PHEVs make sense if you need the one vehicle to do both urban commuting as well as long distance road trips, but sounds like you already have that covered with your 4x4. The recent price drops of EVs make them even more attractive. Another less obvious issue is that EVs are generally coming with more advanced non-EV specific tech than vehicles from legacy automakers - i.e. they're using more advanced chips etc. Please be aware there's currently a huge disinformation campaign in the media trying to discredit EVs.

Yeah, the Atlas Batman tyres are terrible. They slip easily on even mild acceleration even in the dry. They corner OK, the slip is mainly from the torque you apply in an EV on acceleration and the fact that it's FWD without a heavy engine over the front wheels. So on a wet day, uphill you have to caress the accelerator to avoid slippage. Personally, I think EVs are better suited to RWD or AWD. I thought the cost of maintenance was meant to be negligible or non existent in an EV. $299 a year or every 20k in not exactly cheap , I would assume if you don't do these services which likely can only be done at an authorised service centre your battery warranty is likely to be voided. In fact I service my own car and it's alot cheaper than $299, I'd be lucky to break 100 dollars on average but at least I can do them myself. What is there to be serviced on an EV anyway, besides coolant, brake fluid and brakes. All of which I do myself now out of warranty but doubtful I would be allowed the service tools to do them on an BYD if i owned one. So it's a no from me.

@@therightcar Thanks for the response. The savings you mention are certainly not on initial purchase price or on insurance premiums , peoples' time have value too. 5 minutes at a service station verses 30 mins to 1 hr at a charging station. In my case an ICE is definitely cheaper on all counts even though I have Solar panels and technically not cost me much to charge.

Just had an Atto 3 for the weekend. First EV experience And it was terrible. The interior isn't quirky, it's straight up awful. 480km range? F'ing dreaming. Not even remotely close to the claimed range, couldn't get 300km out of it. Never again. If this is the best EVs have to offer then you can keep em. Absolute Junk.

Sorry, but why is $299 servicing required when Teslas don't need servicing (apart from usual tyres, cabin filters, etc)???
@andrewd75864 ай бұрын
So now need to check/replace brakes, or components? No wear & tear on wheel bearings, suspension, steering, ball joints etc?🤣 It’s not maintenance free because its electric.

@johnlambert17444 ай бұрын
@@andrewd7586 I think $300 just to "check" over the car is a bit of a rip-off IMHO. Fair enough if that price included parts but it doesn't, it's just labour. At least Tesla have the right mind when it comes to servicing (as required). I think EV manufacturers are just wanting to recoup some of the initial costs with charging for servicing every 12 months - they think because ICE vehicles require it, so do EVs. But in reality they don't require as much. I'd be happy to pay $120 or something like that per service every 12 months to have the vehicle checked over.

Every vehicle needs servicing at some point or would you rather wait until the warranty has expired and have costly repairs that you could have been fixed under warranty, if you did a service before the warranty period expired on your Tesla. They call it preventative maintenance for a reason. I don't know if the 2024 servicing schedule is more expensive now for the Atto 3, but for my 2022 Atto 3 and driving no more than 12,000km per year, my first 12,000km was free and the next 4 x 12 month services are capped at $189 per service.
Buy a used one in 1 year. They are crashing in prices on the used market. Massive oversupply.
@budawang774 ай бұрын
Hard to predict. The issue is that EVs keep getting better and cheaper which is suppressing used prices. For this reason I predict used ICE will crash even harder.
