Thank you for doing a simple, but timeless bowl. As a beginner, seeing your design come to life and tool control (novice on both) is helpful and inspiring for me.

Hello Tomislav, that really is a beautiful wood. What you have made of it is as simple as it is elegant. A very beautiful bowl. I can fully understand that it is something very special to make something just for yourself. I can't imagine turning 400 of these shotglasses, for example. Woodturning is my (newest) hobby and I only ever do it for myself. So thank you again for taking the time to give beginners like me invaluable insights into woodturning with your videos. Greetings Andreas

I hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas, Mr. Tomislav. This was a very enjoyable video that was both a celebration of the joy of turning and a good bit of shared instruction. The simple, elegant design looks timeless while letting that beautiful piece of Sapele be the shining star. I know you said you might remove the foot, but I think leaving it is a nice, subtle artifact of the turner's hand. Very well done Sir, you make us want to be better with every video you share. Wishing you and your an exceptional Happy New Year!!!

I use Sapele a lot in my end-grain cutting boards (along with Maple, Black Walnut, and Cherry). I like working with Sapele a lot... it is prone to having some really nice chatoyancy. I haven't turned it much as the cutoffs from my cutting boards are at most 50mm x 300mm/ 2" x 12" (usually smaller) so the most I can get from the cutoffs is a small plate or platter.

Love endgrain cutting boards.... If I get a chance to get wider sapele for plates I'll be grabing that for sure, those will be some unique plates and platters.... Thank you very much for watching

@tomislavtomasicwoodturning thank you. I actually turned a little bowl from pear tree. It was really hard wood. No catches but almost. I realize you can't push a bowl gouge straight into the button of the bowl. Need to keep it in shear action. Is that correct? Thanks again

Hi Terry, greetings to Ireland, which part? I have that collar since its new lathe so just until I get muscle memorie, so its about right height.... The rest has a lot of travel so its just faster until I get familiar with this perticular height..... But I do start to like it so I might do a video on this and how to make one.... Its old turning trick that I Picked up as apprentice..... Merry Christmas to you and your family ☺️

Hi Tomislav. Just wandering as beginner why you used a half inch spindle gouge on the outside of this bowl, but in the last video you used a bowl gouge for the outside of the plate. What should I be using.
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 9 ай бұрын
Hi Richard, sorry for confusion, I usually use what I grab first, most of the time its spindle gouge for the outside, but what ever comes first to hand as there are on the bench next to lathe and usually there is shavings on it😅.... Not the best way to show beginners what to use , but genwrally I reccomend bowl gouge as its little more user frendly, especially for someone just starting out....

What is the purpose of the small notch on the left side of the scraper?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 10 ай бұрын
If you have watched last 4 ways video on tray, I put that notch to undercut the bead easier.... It can also work if that side of scraper is complete round over to have a sharp point to do decorations...
