The boys and I test out the new saw and see how it performs.
Its funny the link for this item no longer exists. So this review is probably usleless :P

I received the 18 inch ,58cc version yesterday from Amazon. After assembly, on the third pull it fired up. Tried it out on a half dead maple tree in front yard . Performance was impressive. The bar and the two chains are better quality than came equipped with a new ECHO CS 400 I owned once . I can't attest to its durability yet but just from its performance so far I think it should hold up fine . Looking like the best $109.00 I've ever spent . If I wanted wait EBAY had similar saws for $90 . Some with much bigger engine displacement. I did the same thing assembling my saw yesterday and put chain on backwards.

@@LivingTheDreamHomestead., bad idea to mill lumber with such a small chainsaw. If you want a good milking saw that is cheap, I recommend a Farmertec-Holzfforma G660. Is a clone of the outdated Stihl MS660. Is built fairly heavy, and if buy factory direct is usually around $300 shipped to your door. I have one, a few friends of mine have the G660 and we all love that saw.

I have had 2 Chinese saws. First one was a 52cc w/ 20" bar. Only failure was a broken recoil in 5 years, until I lent it out to someone and they straight gassed it.. I replaced it with probably the cheapest 62cc that I could find. I think it was $92. I spent another $50 on a 20" Husquvarna bar and a good chain. The .325x .58 chain is a little hard to get locally, so the .50 Husky bar makes chain a little cheaper and easier to get... It starts within 3 pulls and is now about 2 years old. Used only occasionally it should last a long time. At ~$150 all in, it gives a better saw for the money than something like a Poulan Predator or whatever they sell these days.. Comparing this to a Pro Husky/ Stihl/ Echo it's going to be inferior, but an occasional use homeowner saw it will be just fine and give you extra power you won't find in the homeowner saw... And by homeowner saw I mean something that is in the 30-40 cc range with a 16-18" bar
@LivingTheDreamHomestead.
@LivingTheDreamHomestead. 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, this was supposed to be for a specific purpose, “Alaskan saw mill” I have 2 husky, 2 stihl, 2 poulan and a couple craftsman. Lol I have a bunch of saws, but they were all mostly broken down in one for or fashion. But they are all operational now. This garwiner has turned out to be a pretty decent saw. The chain sucks, and had to have one custom made for it. The gap is like 78 or something weird. Thanks for the great input!!

@@LivingTheDreamHomestead. It's .325 pitch, or should be and the chain width is .058 which is hard to find. You can get a Husquvarna or Oregon bar in .325x.050 and then run common Husky chain.

That "bumper spike" is used as a pivot when you are cutting. You stick the spikes into the side of the log, then pivot the saw on them to cut. It saves your arms and shoulders because it holds the weight of the saw while it's cutting.

so I couldn't get any of my chainsaws to actually cut and thought I needed new chains and then my friend came over and said you have every single one of your chains on backwards. LOL I have three chainsaws. so I learned that lesson myself and also I would highly recommend not getting the electric grinder to sharpen the chain because I mess up all of my chains doing that I bought the sharpener that goes with the chainsaw because they do need to be specific to each chain and you don't have to take the chain off at all and I have been very successful at that. Looks like it worked really well

How's it holding up? Is the top handle really flimsy, did the chain brake engage itself randomly during a cut? I bought the 62cc coochear and those are my only complaints. Parts for your saw are super cheap. Any "Chinese 5800" should interchange. Oilers are like 6 bucks shipped and piston rings and cylinder is only like 15 and that's shipped. Want more torque? Doing the base gasket delete really woke up my saw!

Usually the only thing holding back the cheap saws are the crank bearings, the carburetor, and the air filter system. But not every cheap or cloned chainsaw model has those issues. Some have zero issues. I have three clone model chainsaws myself, two are brand new but have the original air filter system that they were cloned from. Farmertec-Holzfforma is expensive for a cheap saws, but better built than most.

Great video. Thank You for taking the time to unbox, assemble and test-run this chainsaw for the rest of us. We added this chainsaw to our Hurricane Preparedness list. It fires right up every time. Gave it a good workout at a friend's place, limbing & sawing down a 2 foot diameter tree. When we bought it back in March 2022 it was approx $119 on Amazon. Now in late September 22, the Amazon listing says "unavailable", likely because this time of year folks are buying chainsaws for this Storm List. Our place here in SE Louisiana is surrounded by 75-100 foot tall "toothpick pines", the ones that love to snap off about halfway up. Last year's Ida Hurricane downed trees all over, making the side roads impassable for days. I wish we'd had this chainsaw back then to make things easier to clear trees & debris.

Hopefully that was just a defect and not a design flaw. For $106, if it cuts up a couple of trees, it's paid for itself. Tree guys around me are insane, $400 to $700 a cord. In my opinion is a waste of money to install a longer bar on this saw. Unless, of course, you somehow modify it for more power. At best I would use this saw as an edging saw when milling lumber, not as the main slabbing/milling saw as the engine size is way too small to mill lumber with and have the engine last. If on a tight budget and want a good milling saw, buy a used Husqvarna 390/395xp for $5-600. I've bought a 390xp used for $500 and it was a solid saw. The next step if want a milling saw cheap is to look at buying a Farmertec-Holzfforma G660. Bought that saw with 28in bar/chain plus the G372xp with saw chain for $500 shipped to my door. Scored the deal on Black Friday. The mininun I recommend chainsaw sawmill work with is the 70cc+ class of saws. Mostly l the size of log you want to mill determines the size of chainsaw you want for milling.

On my Holzfforma, aka Farmertec, chainsaws it says 25:1 on one side of the mixing bottle with 50:1 on the other. 32:1 is super safe, 40:1 is usually what most dealers that sell Farmertec-Holzfforma chainsaws tune the carbs for.

Curious as to how well your cheap saw is holding up. My friend Love2Boat92, KZbin channel name, bought a Chinese chainsaw for under $80 and we are both shocked that it is still alive. He's literally tried to kill it by milling lumber with it. It still did not die. No idea how that saw has survived such torture. Running a richer oil mix will help keep the bearings alive. Also letting the saw breathe in middle of the cut to relieve some heat stress helps longevity. Don't forget to let the saw run at idle for a minute before shutting it off when milling to help cool down the really hot engine parts. Next, if there is an o-ring that "seals" the air filter to the carb, replace it immediately with a thicker o-ring and add some dielectric grease to the o-ring. That will stop most of the engine killing fine dust particles you get when milling lumber with a chainsaw.

You wouldn't believe how many people buy those saws and expect them to last I've had a couple people come in my shop with those cheap Chinese saws from the internet telling me it doesn't run right and they want it fixed I pretty much tell for them to throw it in the garbage and buy a Stihl or Husqvarna they're pretty much junk terrible quality control in the manufacturing of the engines other words they don't last I have a couple of huskies that are 30 years old and are still going with minimal maintenance spark plug and air filter cleaning good fuel and oil is the key crepe a ms250 is only $100 more and it will last you 5-10 years you can even pick them up used for anywhere from a fifty bucks to $100
