Can't resist adding to the comments already registered - what a gentle soul and what talent! Looks like God squeezed a bathtub load of talent into that sweet Chinese gentleman. I would love to see more too...thanks for having him. Joe, you did GOOD! thanks a million for introducing him to us...

I enjoyed your video, especialy watching Lian do his bird. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in one of his workshops, in North Bay On., Canada. His art is like Candies to the eyes...loved everyone of them

I started dabbling in Chinese brush painting about 6 years ago. Like Lian, my background was in medicine and, unfortunately, I wasted several years of access to a wonderful tutor…well, it wasn’t all wasted. I learned more calligraphy than actual painting; but CBP & Calligraphy often use the same strokes. What I DID also get was enough brushes, paper, ink sticks, etc to practically start my own class..except I stopped ALL art for a number of years..then, last year, my precious son who had continually urged me to get back into it, passed away suddenly. I also have motivation because my vision is failing..my dear friend, who is extremely talented in Western watercolor, is now helping me out and I bought HER some CBP supplies. My old tutor, now 87? And in a nursing home in China, her great-granddaughter recently sent me 2 of Lian’s books since I am kind of fusing the 2. I was just searching for videos with Mr Zhen and I’m going to attempt my first painting using his methods today. Liang sent me his Animals book specifically because it has a cat with ALMOST the same color fur as my Princess…but still a darker orange, so I’m going to have to continue to improvise to get her much brighter orange fur.
