Just wanted to share something I made while drunk the other night. Easy burritos. Half a bag of frozen Potatoes O'Brian (or called Hash Browns with onion and peppers) A whole bag of frozen peppers and onions (fajita veggies), A can of Black beans and a can of corn. I also used some oil and minced garlic from a jar. SUPER easy. I have so much I'm going to freeze some. I'm not vegan so I had an egg and some cheese with mine, but for vegan you could leave that out and add more beans and avocado and greens, anything you want really. It was cheap and easy enough to make while drunk and crying. Oh yeah, I put spices and jared salsa in there too.

upcycling leftovers into new things is a budget stretcher. I just took leftover spanish rice and pinto beans and put in the food processor with crushed corn chips, oregano, cilantro, onion and garlic powder and some pickled jalepenos with their brine. Pulsed till blended (leave chunky for texture) and make into patties. Air fry 7-15 minutes depending on size and your fryer ( or bake). I served on a bun with cashew ranch and some roasted anaheim chili and lettuce. I do this bean/grain burger combo all the time with different varieties and spice profiles (soybeans and brown rice with green curry; white bean-sorghum and pasta sauce and italian seasoning, etc). And mushrooms of all varieties have gotten alot more expensive where I live (seattle), but button mushrooms still the least expensive of the varieties

Oyster mushrooms are super super easy to grow and clone. Kids, the dried beans are the way to go.. My bulk bin at a local store has 2 pounds of beans/peas for $2.24. In the prepackaged section, most 1 pound bags are 1.89-1.99. I also have a dehydrator..I cook up dried beans I want to use now, and then dehydrate the rest. They keep well in glass jars after dehydrated. You can make almost instant dinners with dehydrated beans and dehydrated veggies. If you see a good deal on bulk foods, dehydrating is also buying you time in the future AND saving you money because no idea how high prices in the future will go. ✌🏼💜

Pasta wheat: approx 15-17% protien. Chickpeas approx 21% protien. Not hugely different. Wheat pasta is certainly not "missing" protien. 800 calories of durum wheat (pasta type) has about 32g of protein. That's about is much as the average 50kg person needs in a day (but maybe only enough calories for one meal) (average person needs about 0.66g per kg of healthy body weight to maintain their muscle mass according to the national institute of health)
@phillippinter75182 жыл бұрын
And honestly I find her mindset around protien to be very triggering the way she always adds things "for protien" why not just add beans if thats what you want and Leave it at that. I really shouldn't click on these videos but they keep coming up and the internet is often a downwards spiral.

Team Cilantro 😎 I recently found your videos and I think they are awesome. I liked all the recipes. 💖 I do have to say I cringed a little at the raw tortillas. I know the label says "cooked" but they are barely cooked. They're expected to be heated again before serving and that will finish the cooking. If you actually heat them up, you will see a difference in texture and flavor. The light golden brown spots and the smell let you know they're ready. I think you're missing out if you haven't tried them as they're meant to be eaten.

trick for buying spices: buy from your international or latin american supermarkets. They tend to be cheaper and you also will be able to buy the harder to find spices (whole cardamom for instance). American supermarkets will dupe you into paying a lot of money for a teeny jar. Don't fall for it.

Bell peppers are my jam and they’re in almost every recipe I make. Now the only time I buy fresh bell peppers is when they’re in season and on sale or if I can’t find the frozen. Oh or sometimes you can get a good deal on “imperfect peppers”. So for just frozen peppers I get the “great value sliced 3 pepper blend”, which is a Walmart product and in Canadian dollars it’s only $1.98 for 500gm bag. Or there’s the “president’s choice 3 pepper and onion blend” from Superstore or No Frills which is $4.79 for a 500gm bag, but the price on this varies as the frozen veggies go on sale a lot. The pieces in the PC blend are much larger chunks than the GV. So that’s how I’m able to have peppers in all my meals all year round, lol.
