Dude, Clipping Mask. In SAI it' called Clipping Group, it`s beneath Lock in the top of the layers panel.

Sai (Pronouced SIGH) is far more cusomizable than you showed here. There are many things that you asked about on the video that can be fully customized in Sai. Glad you found the brushes.. you can also use textures by putting BMP's into the folder. It's a wee bit of work around.. but still works well. You can also use BMP's for paper textures. If you would like some tips on things in this program.. shoot me a message. I would be glad to answer your questions!

This guy is just telling how to use basic features, not how to create a new brush. I want to create a smudge brush like I do in photoshop but in Sai. how do you create a brush in Sai. I know how to copy existing brushes then change features but not how to build a brush from scratch?!

I only tried Sai2 when it was... like a REALLY early alpha, or beta. This looks way more polished and complete! Regarding some tips about the program: -There SHOULD be mask clipping, either the "Clipping group" or "Selection source" buttons should do the thing. -The stabilizer isn't ideal for painting, but it's an honestly impressive tool for inking (Allow me the little spam, tomorrow I'll upload a speeded up inking I made last month in the 1st version of Sai, you may find it interesting), specially lineart and cross-hatching. -If I remember correctly, this new Sai has pretty simple, but cool perspective rules. Something to really take a look at. -There should be options to change the interface, probably in the Window tab. -While it's perfectly fine to paint without silouette, this software shines when it comes to cel-shaded and comic/manga art :P I hope to have been useful!

I didn't actually know there was a Sai 2 xD But a couple of things (which at least are valid in the the regular Sai) clipping mask IS there but it's a check box called Layer Clip and you CAN move the panels to the left or right as you want in Window panel :) Brushes seem to be way different in Sai 2 though regarding textures and stuff Also, it might have been because you used the water brush that the brush was blurring in the beginning, I'm not sure :p

I have been using Previous SAI Yes you can clip mask see the option on the top of your layer panel "clipping group" just hit that and it will clip mask to the layer under. you can switch panel to right side to go window "show layer on the right" or you can use "show color and tool on the right" it depends on your preference.

Same, I used Clip Studio for awhile but I like the painting and drawing experience in it more. Still have to do color correction in Photoshop(but pretty much everybody uses Photoshop to do that lol)

I had a lot of trouble BUYING Paint Tool SAI 2.0. I think I wound up paying for it TWICE! LOL Next to Photoshop, SAI is the most commonly used software for YT painting demos. Some of them are truly beautiful. Though it does seem to involve mostly Manga characters. ;) Some of Clip Studio Paint 1.5x new brushes now behave a lot like SAI's, though of course CSP can do a lot more. I very much liked your painting that you showed at the beginning. Did you do a video for that? If not, I hope you'll consider creating another masterpiece using SAI. Finally, THANX for dropping back down to 720p. :)

True, there are ways to get it for free. But if anyone is interested in getting SAI definitely look into buying it instead of pirating. The team working on both versions consists of one guy who put a ton of work into making them and is still working hard today. Not only that, but the pirated version will never be updated, and as someone who owns the free and paid versions I really wish I could update the free one despite all the brushes and textures it has.

oh you can change the layout. you go to the window panel and it says smtn along the lines of 'show the layer panel to the right' and' show color and tool to the right' also you can zoom there is a scale and rotation option under that other window on the left that like shows the whole picture. I dont have sai 2 but i do have (iligally downled shhh) sai 1 one so i know a good amount. though i didnt know anything about those wierd costom brushes at 15:35. Also also about the blurriness in the beginning on the brush i think its cos youre using a water brush not a normal brush. I think thats all? If you found any of that helpful you can just ask me if you have more qustions even though i dont have sai 2. both programs are pretty siminal soo lol (aaalsooo srry about my rrly bad english lmao)

You can change the layout via the Window option. If Sai v2 has it, you can detach/float the tool windows through editing the misc.ini file in Sai's program folder.

You should do a let's test of ms paint :D i have always liked sai for being more paintery than say photoshop (the new generation of programs sure beats sai at that) but sai beeing quick has always been a favorite, since photoshop has never really worked for me n just always lagged. really should try sai2 one day but not this day

Clipping mask is called clipping group in sai, you can find it above the layer panel. You can also change the interface position to the right in the window tab and instead of creating a normal layer you can create a linework layer which uses vector instead of pixels

You obviously hadn't used PTS 1 before trying PTS 2 much, so you missed a lot of options (like changing the program's layout). But I'm super grateful that you figured out and showed how to add new brush patterns and textures into this sweet 2,5 MB baby. Thanks a lot!

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but if you go to the "window" option up at the top there should be two options that say something like "show layer panel/color and tools to the right" and if you click them they move those to the right side of the screen! I hope that was at all helpful ;;

borodante, your video helped me a lot. i have problem about delay. when i started stroke, it didnt start that point i wanted - it was starting a little space later and that was so uncomfortable. than i checked - "options" > "use tabletPC API instead of WinTab API (vista or later, need restart of app)" and it solved.

As someone who made over 200 comic pages in SAI 1*, I have a special affinity for this program, at least the old version. SAI 2 is great because SAI 1 was a 32 bit program, and that got kind of hairy when I was getting up to 15-20 layers on a 600 dpi comic page. Unfortunately SAI 2 took so long to come out that there's almost nothing it can do that MS5ex/Clip Studio Paint can't. Not too surprising I guess as it's a 1 man team, and it's probably not even his full time job. BTW it is possible to make brushes and import textures, but it's a real pain in the ass. It involves exiting the program and copying the textures into a folder, then editing a text file so SAI knows how to parse them: chuiyi.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Custom-Textures-and-Brushes-in-SAI-282240778 It sounds insane, and it's obviously not ideal, but since I was spending 10 hours a day using SAI 1, I eventually got around to importing a bunch of metal/grunge/hair/etc textures and they work great once you get it sorted out. * grrlpowercomic.com, in case you're wondering. The first ~200 pages are all SAI (with Illustrator for lettering) then 200-300 I transitioned to MS5ex, now I use CSP entirely (except for the lettering still)

I should say that spending several years using SAI spoiled me on the idea of having most of my keyboard shortcuts being taken up by brush hotkeys, and now when I try a program like PShop or Krita, I'm immediately frustrated that I can't switch between pen, brush, blur, smear, pencil, smudgier paint, smooth brush, hair brush and 17 others without going in and futzing with the shortcuts for 20 minutes and potentially missing out on a bunch of neat shortcuts native to the program. Krita for instance, if you hit W (for magic Wand in any other paint program) puts the canvas in wraparound mode which is great for creating seamless textures.

BORODANTE you can make the panel all to the right instead of left side. To do this, Click Window menu (beside Help button) and you will see what Last option will do (Move to the right)

You can change the layout on the view tab, and linework layers have a curve tool. if you explore the program deeply you can see you can do alot of stuff, also there's alot of custom brushes available for sai not sure how to instal them myself but there's alot.

Big caveat: this may not apply or be incompatible with sai 2 alpha thingy you're using. You can get texture brushes, but the process is maybe more involved (copy paste files into right folders and whatnot). You can move interface to the right. You can create brushes by just right clicking on empty spaces (mostly a way to save your favorite settings). Clipping is "Layer Clip" in the v1, think in this it's one of the icons next to the "Lock" text right above layers.

okidokie so i know this is like crazy late but for people who wonder if some of the stuff he asks can be done !! :0 1.) ur paint modes work with color and not b&w, and they do work with blending brushes 2.) u can make ur own brushes ! if u go into the sai folder theres bristle, blotmap, brushtex and papertex. it doesnt have all the og probably because its intended for you to move your old brush selections over to this one? dunno (and you can convert any sai v.1 brush to sai v.2, elemap is just replaced with "bristle" since thats what it is) 3.) u can use clipping masks ! on the layer you wanna clip something to, click on the tiny square underneath the eye icon next to the layer and it clips those two together. (you can do this to folders to a single layer and vice versa i believe??) 4.) u can also move ur layout stuff to the other side (under window tab > near the bottom "show navigator & layer panels on right side" and "show color and tools panels on right side") or you can entirely separate them from the program itself by clicking "separate user interface panel" > w/e you want) 5.) changing opacity/density, blend, or size via pen pressure size is possible, and also customizable with the sliders ! at the bottom of ur brush settings under "miscellaneous" (theres also checkboxes beneath misc, make sure to check those if you want to enable pen pressure for them at all) it allows you to change the 3 sliders that change for how much pressure needs to be applied for it to hit the max allowance for size, blend or opacity. (it also features a personally-customizable stabilizer for just that explicit brush in case u dont want a stabilizer on everything) 6.) i think thats it ?? :0 anyways yeah !! happy drawing w ur funfacts

To change which side the tools and color panels are on, go to the tab that says 'Window', then look for something that says "Show Navigator and Layer Panels To Right" and "Show Color And Tools Panels Left". By checking and unchecking the boxes you can switch which side the panels snap to. :)

The brushes can be tweaked crazilly. Look up some Paint Tool SAI brushes as you can use alpha brushes, the ones that come *WITH* SAI2 are actually the old ones from SAI1 :| So when you make a new "BRUSH" it'll ask you to choose a "TYPE" that will determine what options are available. so as to keep it that"TYPE" of brush. Yes you can change the interface, i have everythin except layers on my right. The Option is under 'Window' the second from below. And about the brushes: You can customize every brush. You can fill an empty slot with a new type of brush (airbrush, pen, watercolour, etc.) and modify them by themselves. You can add textures and form of the brush manually (just like you did in the video with the bmp.files) and customize them further with the sliders. Then you can name and shortkey that brush and it will be saved in its slot. Sai saves all your customizes for every single brush in every single slot. All you have to do is right click on an empty slot :D Hope i could help.

The clipping option for layers is right above the layer tray area. it's a little check mark. The first version had a "quality" option for the brushes that behaved a lot like spacing. I can't find it in 2 though.

i recently got this (i believe its still in beta??) but the circle ruler and straight ruler are new, + theres more layer effects, and more settings to brushes. you can use sai 1 files in the program too. (im not sure what else yet...)

I'm pretty sure to stop the brush from blurring at the beginning of the stroke, you make the Min Density 100%. That way its 100% density the whole time. Also, if you make a layer and press clipping group, you should be able to paint over just your mask... I think. I'm not sure. But check it out! :) ALSO, to change the layout, I know in the first paint tool sai, you just had to go to the window tab at the top, and you'd get options like "show layer panel to the right" and "show color and tool to the right".

didn't happen for me, i'd recommend using a temporary throw away credit card. sorry that happened :( i hope everything's okay

@@7lowufoz Everything was fine. Whenever we execute an online purchase, we always use a credit card so we can freeze it quickly. And with companies we've never done business with before, we keep a sharp lookout for unauthorized charges. In this case, the unauthorized charges happened within 15 minutes of the purchase so we were able to shut it down immediately.

I used PayPal when i buy vendors out of united state. Its safe and secure.
