I don't really understand why you would buy this kit, its expensive. You can get a vacuum test & a regas for £30 with the peice of mind the system is leak free before a regas.
@ToTheGarage3 жыл бұрын
Because I have several cars and several friends and will use it several times a year. Meaning its convenient and much cheaper.

Good video but I have a problem with these top up cans and gauges and that is that there is no way of purging the connecting hose of air. If you use the pro manifold gauge set there is a valve which can be opened briefly to purge to hose of air which normally has moisture and that moisture can cause problems. Probably worth buying a cheap set of gauges with manifold. I'm in the Jaguar enthusiast club with a 420G, Good luck.

must admit for once the UK is one up on the USA and that is the re-fillable Freon bottle over here they sell you little bottles that you throw away, probably because they can make more money :).a couple of points to note and I appreciate as I am in AZ and you are in the frozen north, we tend to charge up to the 'middle' of the green because here summer ranges from minimum 100 to sometimes 120, in other words from hell to oh my god, also when charging the system it is a good idea to move the bottle base from 03:00 to 12:00 and my personal preference is to pull the trigger when it is in the 12:00 position i.e.. upside-down.

Hi Dave No its a refillable cylinder. But ypu would more typically exchange it for a new one with aabout £10 discount for in return for your empty bottle. The cylinder is 532ml (18oz) Hard to say but my guess is at least 6 top ups on averagely low systems

Hi David. Sorry, I don't know that one. It may be related to auto-dim features if yours is so equipped? One of our fantastic fellow subscribers with a higher spec Cat may know about this though. Any takers Guys?
@doug6863 жыл бұрын
@@ToTheGarage Hey guys, this dial is to adjust the sensitivity of the auto headlamps, and in what light conditions they decide to come on. You've probably figured it out by now David, but just in case anyone else is curious! There is also a button which turns on/off the auto dim. At least, that is the case on my '98 XKR

Great video thanks! But what was the outcome of the tensioner inspection, did she have the updated, metal ones fitted? (From a slightly concerned new '98 XK8 owner who needs to take a peek under the valve cover with fingers crossed!)
@ToTheGarage2 жыл бұрын
Top Tensioners are updated metal bodied items (these are the ones that give 90% of issues) .and are relatively easy to check. Lower tensioners (Primary's) are much less problematic and much harder to inspect. I won't be checking or changing them in the foreseeable..

Hi john i bought this kit, my car is reading zero on the pressure gauge. Can i attempt to add gas still?

Hi John. You can, but no pressure at all probably means there is a significant leak.

Another great video John, I love your presentation and how you unravel the mysteries of the XK8/XKR. I work in the H & V industry and often worked on office AC units in the early days, but even I am nervous of recharging vehicle AC. Watching someone like yourself having a go, will help other owners understand the system. Would you use this method if you had completely lost the gas or would you recommend going to an expert to have it vacuumed out first, then the initial charge? Keep up the good work. I am always on the look out for your next XK8 video:-)
@ToTheGarage5 жыл бұрын
Gary Moores hi Gary. I would as you say get the system completely evacuated and refilled if it needed more than a top up. Also the cost of doing it with the little refillable cylinders is a bargain when topping it up but no cheaper than a garage would charge off filling it from empty 👍

Hi John, apologies for the late arrival but I found you via Grandblogisimo. Two great channels. Anyway I have a 2004 XK8 Coupe and I thought I’d try the self gassing route myself. The temperature gauge gives me circa 10C but when I connect the gauge I get a green filled at circa 30 then something cuts out and it goes to yellow alert c50 then something cuts back in and it goes back to mid green? Would welcome your thoughts? I should never have gone under the bonnet and into Mordor ☹️
@ToTheGarage4 жыл бұрын
Welcome aboard John. You will have done no harm. If your efforts have not reduced the temperature but the gas stays in the system ie not leaking alike a sieve then half an hour at a professional AC outfit will see your system vacuums emptied and refilled with new gas and Icy cold again
