I really like amorphophallus. Here in London, Ontario, the city actually has some growing in a couple of public places, one of which is a wedding venue. I go check them out every year. I don't know what species it is, but it does well as a perennial, they do not get brought in for the winter. They look like Konjac I think.

I bought a titanum on a whim and I've been fascinated with amorphophallus ever since! I have no idea what I'll do when it gets bigger, but that's a problem for future me lol. Would love to find the peony version, the leaves are so pretty

Great video Bill. If you remember this is my first year with Amorphophallus (Konjac)... its doing great so far, I have seven little 'uns growing up around it as well. They really are fascinating plants. That was a great clip, thank you. Keep safe.

Ah that's great you have four of them. I have serveral species in my collection. All are doing well and have finally come up for me this year. I had a paeonifolius flower that was a surprise back in Feb. After growing so many I would say the best beginner one is paeonifolius and it can even take full sun. Easier than konjac which is more fussy.

@@miche7032 yes I do have an atroviridis. I have a video of it blooming last year, somewhere. It was mixed in with my general garden updates. I kept it in the same soil in a pot as all my other amorphs. When it went dormant I brought it inside and kept it dry. This year is was the last to come up. I don't know why. I thought it had died but luckily it was ok. Perhaps best to keep it totally dry until you see it start to sprout.

Scary Fear thank you so much for your tips. There are so many of them, it was hard for me to find specific information on this particular one. I found it at a good price so I couldn’t pass it on. I like its velvety purple leaf. I might get other varieties if this one does well for me. Happy growing.

@@miche7032 Hey no prob glad to help. Perhaps I'll post a video on my plants soon although no flowers this year. I'd love to have another atroviridis. i only have one and like to have more than one for back up and also for pollination in the future. But I'm in the US and they are so rare here.

Interesting. I have a konjac and a paeoniifolius, but the konjac has been easier for me. I've had the konjac almost four years, and it has consistently gotten bigger every year. It has an inflorescence on it now about ready to open. The paeoniifolius I've only had about two years. It hasn't grown much. Last year it didn't grow a leaf till late summer, and it only lasted maybe a month. Not sure what to do about it.

Good morning, thank you for the awesome video and you did a great job explaining how to care for these beauties. I have a question. Last fall when my tiatum, (not sure on the spelling), in the fall when it went dormant or died back, when I took it out of the pot there were some very long white things the size of a finger that went both directions of the bulb in the pot. I have not been able to find any information on that and I'm wondering what those were. I think they were too big to be roots. Do you happen to know what that was or is? Thank you in advance, Kathy

Loved the video Bill l have Amorphophallus bulbifera “Snake Plant” and Amorphophallus konjac “Voodoo Plant” and Amorphophallus paeoniifolius “Elephant Foot Yam” of which it not eatable form meaning Wild Undomesticated form of it. One day l will get the form of the Elephant Foot Yam that can be eaten and all of mine have died back as it is Winter here in Australia.

They are certainly not easy to find. I bought my A. Bulbifer from www.phoenixperennials.com/ I was very happy with the size of the corm when it arrived for the price. the others i've ordered randomly through ebay. but they weren't the correct ID.... so that route is always a gamble. at the moment i only have extra corms of A. konjac. Happy hunting... they are such interesting and Unique plants.

A question I have that I've been unable to find an answer to, is about how far away is the smell noticeable? Like will my neighbors be upset with me, or can only smell within a distance, and roughly what is that distance?

Is there a way to tell what kind I have? A friend gave it to me and didnt know what it was. It gets about 18" high and has that camo pattern on the stem. It overwinters fine by throwing it in the basement and forgetting about it until spring.

You just described most of them...lol if you ask on an Amorphophallus expert group on Facebook they might be able to narrow it down... but it won't be accurately identified until it blooms unfortunately

my stem bent on a 2 year plant i’m not sure on the exact type but i think it’s the titan. it’s currently over 3 ft tall. if you have any information on how to help it please let me know. ive worked really hard to keep her healthy and don’t want to see her die
@PlantzNThings

you can try adding a pole to tie up the leaf. just be aware of the corm in the soil... you don't want to damage the corm. even if the leaf dies back... i'm sure the plant will be ok. eventually the corm will push out a new one
