YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FINALLY. Mortum, I have been waiting for you to cover a "Traditional Roguelike" for ages now. Last year in 2022, I have a pretty severe medical issue that didnt allow me to play games really at all. I went online and kept trying to find a RPG that I could play with only the keyboard and my left hand, and I finally found games like Caves of Qud, Tale's of Maj'eyal, Shiren the Wanderer, Tangledeep, Dungeons of Dreadmor, Goldren Krone Hotel, Midboss, and my personal favorite The Doors of Trithius. In a lot of ways a lot of these games feel almost more like action RPG than they do a "roguelike" as weve come to know the term today. Mortum, I would love to see you cover any of those games I mentioned. I REALLY think youd like a lot of them. You can also turn the permadeath off on almost if not all of them and just enojy it like a regular RPG BUT WAIT THERES MORE an old Fable dev just released a game called MOONRING and its pretty good! - but the real kicker is that its entirely FREE on steam, no strings. Ive been really enjoying it the last few days here while I wait for Lords of the Fallen. It really took me back to last year when I could only really play Caves of Qud on my laptop with one arm lol. hope anyone who sees these comments and checks any of the games I mentioned out and enjoys them as much as I did/do!

@@trevorcooper3268 yeah im a super big fan of caves of qud. I am very aware of C:DDA but havent bought it myself yet. a few others I really enjoy are tales of maj'eyal, golden krone hotel, tangledeep, shiren the wanderer (I know its more of a mystery dungeon but theyre pretty similar IMHO), dungeons of dreadmor, but my all time favorite one is actually in early access still called The Doors of Thrithius. I kind of reminds me of if like ToME and The Elder Scrolls had a baby. Its in the pretty early stages of early access, BUT it already has soooooo much content, its just that the dev is making an absolutely freaking massive game. He updates it so freaking fast too, its insane. im convinced he doesnt sleep. Lastly is an honorable mention and thats stoneshard, but honestly I feel like the Doors of Thrithius just does it better. Part of that might just be that I really think Staneshard needs a better save system. The game is just too big not to have a better one. I fully get its a roguelike but I also really like the ones that give you a roleplay mode like Qud, ToME, or Thrithius. I do like making new builds every time but I like those modes for learning the game in the beginning, roleplaying, and exploring. It just hurts on Stoneshard when I spend 12 minutes gearing up just to die and then I have to spend another 12 minutes gearing up all over again. super frustrating. It would be different if it was a standard dungeon crawl roguelike but its not its a sandbox rpg roguelike and I think it needs to makes some exceptions to fit the genre blend that its trying to do.

Im personally really excited about this. I played the demo for loke 5 hours and then the prologue for like another 4. I am honestly not "good" at this game but trying to figure out how to win and optimize a run is a fun puzzle to dig at. Really excited for this one. Mort: can you please do an update on games to play on Steam Deck? I recently bought one but am having a hard time finding games that I actually enjoy playing on it. Would be great to have a list of games that are suited for the controller as opposed to games that can be played with a controller (so no first person shooters, mouse-simulating stick dragging, etc).

I like this, I DO NOT like that it punishes miss clicking, that is the one single thing I have died to the most, if you are in running mode and i use the wrong key because I am trying to move over a body, which attempts to open the inventory, the game shoud just tell you, hey, you cannot do that, instead of using one of your time units, it is obtuse and artificial shitty difficulty.

I've played it little bit less than 2 hours and decided to refund it. Primary reason for my refunding is that, for a semi-roguelite extraction shooter hybrid game, random elements of this game seems to have a lot of variance. At the very same raid, in the same chest (even if layout varies slightly), my guy can find a LMG loaded with 54 bullets that can clear the entire levels or find a single knife that can be used to cut off his own arms so he can die faster. Loot seems to be very random even though there's distinct power difference in each items. I can get the very advanced guns in the same chest that spawns the worst pea shooter in the game. Which ultimately gives me feeling of whether run fails or succeeds depends on seed rather than my own skills. And it also dis incentivize the overall game play loop of 'scavenge resources, make better items, fight harder encounters, scavenge better' because you're going to get the very good gun in any chest in the level, so why would you pick up spare gun parts and metal resources, when you can just pick up the perfectly intact weapon in raid. Of coruse, I haven't played it long enough to make a conclusion, so I'm going to let it simmer in wishlist for a while.
@Braddaddyx

@derlon858
@derlon858 Жыл бұрын
i did some naked runs, the first one a guy used a flamethrower and instakilled me while i tried to punch him, other run was sucessfull, a guy mag dumped his makeshift auto shotgun and my blade evasive character got max level dodge instantly, after 6 punches missing one hit and he got killed, melee overrall is too risky, with punches you will get shot too much and armored enemies take no damage, and some demons like the flying green head cant be meleed at all, they stun lock and do up to 5 wounds in a turn so you get insta killed, guns are the bread and butter and meele only works if its against weaker enemies and there aint too many of them, punching is ridiculous weak compared to a bone, leg or arm or pipe, also some melee weak humans can get lucky and wound you a lot with their crap weapons ending your run when a single pistol shot would have solved it, also you need to be time efficient, later on the demons get pissed off the longer you stay in the mission, if the meter reaches one thousand you cant leave anymore and a big bad demon who is faster than you will run up to you and one shot you, i believe only ultimate gaming shenanigans can kill him, and melee is not viable at all, when you die you get a starting kit with food meds and a knife and good pistol, no need to go naked, also you cant trade some crap with factions that give weapons as reward if the place is peacefull and has no mission active.
