I can't recommend Stoneshard enough. Game is beautiful. There is attention to detail in every aspect. Its hard, and yet every build is viable, highly customisable and different in meaningful way in terms of gameplay. And even besides build you have so many options of traps, throwables, consumables etc. Sure, updates are rare. There is no denying that. But every update makes so many changes that it often feels like new game. Not to mention that the one that just dropped was the biggest one BY FAR. It not only overhauled many already existing aspects of the game but also added few additional separate activities. Damn, and I already have like 900h in this game.

Some thoughts from someone who's put far too many hours into the game. - Survival is binary at lvl 1, and lvl 1 is brutally hard. Each level (and cash infusion) makes it a little easier. - Injuries and condition kick in far more once you reach a point where survival is no longer binary. I find this happens between lvl 3-5, depending on how lucky you are with the loot and which character you start with. (Some of them start with decent armour) - I've found I don't have a problem with the save system- It's nothing that I don't end up doing accidentally in any RPG I play. If anything, the fatigue system makes it less likely that I forget to save and just push on. - If you're struggling with the save system, invest in the survival tree after you've got a couple of combat abilities and clear camps around the map. If you're struggling to find camps, talk to random people and select the "have a chat/any news" options. - The caravan makes the resting problem less of an issue, since you can park the caravan (and the safe save tent there) on the next map over from a dungeon.

I trust I don't have to explain why that might slow things down.

This game is awesome. The art direction and attention to details is way better than it has a right to be. The music is grounded and beautiful. Dealing with all the game systems is like a giant puzzle to figure out. Single player RPG with a splash of Tarkov management. The Save system never bothered me because I treat each sleep-save like a fresh run. If you die, it’s like hardcore but way less punishing because you start back to when you woke up that day. Highly recommended this game.

A good tip if youre not making your own bedrolls is to clear out small bandit camps, then you got future saving spots you can visit on the way. Same goes for friendly lookout points etc. This game is all about prepping since its also a survival game. Its a genius mix the devs been cooking and i love it. Also this game is pretty deep and its not only what you see is what you get. Heck the game even has its own banking system along with services ^^

The saving system is one of the things that most players complain about because life happens and sometimes you need to stop playing and do something else. But if you are not near a save point then you either have to keep the game open or quit and start from the last save point and loose your progress which in some cases can be an hour or two lost. The explanation the devs gave is that there is just too much things to save (items, enemies and their states) and that is why you cannot save everywhere. Even when you save in an inn you only get to keep your items,experience, completed quests and the world otherwsie resets. However since you are in a safe area it doesn't feel so obvious. If you are able to save in tje middle of a dungeon where you have eliminted a bunch of enemies and then you start the game again and you spawn surrounded cause they have respawned it will be a much different experience. I am not sure what is the engine limitation about saving the states of the objects at least in your immediate area but I guess if it was technically possible it would have been implemented since this is the main issue pointed out in the Steam reviews too and it would have benefitted the overal reception of the game.

Save on Exit is a thing now as stated but there is more ways to save as the map is more condensed, more camp spawns, you now have a Caravan to plant directly next to the dungeon if you so choose and several ways to rest. If you have issues and struggle with dungeons eating half your supply before you are done, you can honestly just leave. The dungeons don't exactly reset unless you were gone for several days so you can pack it up and continue the run after resting. The entire comment is woefully outdated and has been addressed and patched looooooong ago. Wish you can update your original comment to reflect this

This video is spot on to my feelings about the game. Stoneshard is a great game hidden behind a frustrating save system, if you can get past that and you are okay with the long development time
@foolgharsalten94978 сағат бұрын
StoneShard’s save system represents a thoughtful balance between the punishing elements of roguelikes and the accessibility of traditional RPGs. It manages to retain the stakes and tension that make roguelikes so compelling, where every decision matters and death carries meaningful consequences, while also offering a practical safety net that avoids the complete reset of progress seen in more traditional roguelikes. This system is particularly notable because it encourages strategic gameplay without undermining the sense of risk. Saving at inns or using a bedroll requires careful planning, with the added dynamic of bedrolls allowing wilderness saves at the cost of a potential ambush. This creates a risk-reward mechanic that keeps players engaged and on edge, even during moments of rest. It’s a system that doesn’t diminish the challenge but instead complements it by making every choice-from when to save to how far to push your luck-more impactful. What’s truly commendable about this approach is how it blends the thrill of roguelike tension with the flexibility of an RPG. Players aren’t punished so harshly as to erase all their progress, but they also aren’t given the unrestricted freedom of saving anytime, anywhere. This strikes a harmonious middle ground, ensuring the game remains challenging while still respecting the time and effort invested by the player. In this way, the save system allows for meaningful experimentation and exploration, while maintaining the high-stakes atmosphere that roguelike fans value. It’s not about catering to any specific audience but rather about creating a well-rounded experience that embodies the best of both worlds. The result is a game that feels fair yet demanding, accessible yet uncompromising-a perfect mix of roguelike intensity and RPG depth.

Is there other games of it's kind that are more easy, but still fun and complex? Yes. So it is just what it is and you either take it or you don't. I disagree on the importance of the mechanics such as injuries, pain, fatigue, etc. On the early dungeons they are easy to deal with, but when you get to T3 and above you really have to engage with the mechanics, as dungeons are much longer and there are extra modifiers such as blocked exit (you need to find a lever) and poison gas (makes you be intoxicated). You really need to come prepared with consumables, and even then you may be forced to fight with progressively worse debuffs.
