I used 1/2" PVC and stainless washers for the nozzle. Had a few go bang, that was exciting...... Been watching your channel and have learned a lot, Thanks for taking the time to make these video's

would love to see what you used for endcaps/bulkheads/nozzle retainer. I can guess at most of it being more PVC fittings but its always nice to see it up close. Was there any nozzle deformation, Im not expecting reusablity of the nozzle but that would be cool if possible.

I will have a full tutorial in Feburary. Untill then you can check out my 1" PVC tutorials listed on the channel.

Have you ever added a delay and ejection charge?
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
The core does not extend all the way to the end, so in other words it already has a delay built in. I am not sure how long the delay is but it could be adjusted. A tissue with 1/2 gram of BP tied off would probably work as a simple solution. If you get it to work let us know!

Looks like sorbitol fuel is burning a bit slower than flexi-fuel. Is that what you have found to be the case?
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
Sorbitol burns smooth and predictable. Flexi-fuel is like "Harry hang on to your hat she is gonna really rip!"

What caused the pop? Was it a very tight nozzle?
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
I tried to drill out the core after overnight in the freezer. It didn't go well so I am not surprised it did not hold up. I did figure out how to cast a 6" long core and remove the tooling without using colorful words. Tutorial soon.

@@TheRocketeer do u have any idea on how to make a y solid propellant in gel form? I am considering grinding KNO3 or AN extremely fine and add to vaseline and carefully test because you know... boom Or feel free to suggest me any solid propellant that could be made into toothpaste consistency gel, apcp, sugar, everything is welcome
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
@@FirstLast-tx3yj I was not able to get vaseline to burn even after adding potassium perchlorate. I don't know of any other gel propellants or how they would be used.

@@TheRocketeer in both parrafin and vaselin the vapor or molten layer is the one that burns (at least in the case of hybrids) A much stronger igniter is needed i believe But in my case I havent tried amd everyone was telling me its gonna blow instead of burn

PVC is caustic to breath when burning. Not sure how that makes a good motor casing. I understand you’re not standing near the rocket when launching & it will hopefully not be burning during retrieval, but it’s still a hazard I would think.
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
The smoldering you see at the end of the burn is not PVC but schmutz that occurs from a sugar motor. Even my aluminum motors have some trailing smoke from sugar fuel but not as much because of the higher pressure. PVC makes good test motors. I am using one to test Fructose burn rate because it is unknown. I would rather expend $5 worth of PVC than a $150 commercial motor. I have made 90 pounds of thrust on a 1" PVC motor before. They will take a lot of pressure and heat for a short time. Thanks for your comment.

@@TheRocketeer do you know how much the PVC tube costs ? I have made a homemade 29mm fiberglass casing (~3G) for less than 3€ (including the consumables). It requires special building materials and some experience with Composites though. It allows easy and strong bonding of a reused phenolic nozzle from aerotech/CTI. Unfortunately I couldn't test it last week and I'll have to wait until Easter to do so. I'll let you know how it goes
@TheRocketeer Жыл бұрын
@@shere_kan8329 It cost around $3 for the PVC parts. Please let me know how your project goes, keep a safe distance from any rocket motor test!
