Have been living in Nashville since 2007 and buying and selling Gibsons the whole time and I have come across a great many interesting and beautiful guitars in the area. I can say that 2019 as the new beginning so to speak has been fantastic for Gibson as a brand and for players and collectors everywhere. The NAMM show Les Paul featured is absolutely exemplary of what a Les Paul should be, and what Gibson is capable of. Congratulations to the new owner, and thank you Austin for your great show and all you do, I really enjoy your channel.

I work at Breedlove / Bedell and we do NAMM the same way. Dealers buy the show instruments, and then they get shipped back to our Bend OR factory, and they get a final QC before they get shipped out to dealers. The reason, people play and hold those instruments and they need to be cleaned up and set up again before they get in the hands of our awesome dealers :)

At NAMM guitars chosen for great looks and then their playability is tweaked to perfection. So even a PRS SE245 can be near perfection when it is chosen out of dozens and then nudged into ultra playaility. Now a certain small town store managed to scoop the showcase SE which was in the entrance of the PRS NAMM booth. BUT in farm country classic Fenders are the only choice of the locals, OUCH! No one wanted it so after a few years tagging it as a used guitar and blowing it for small change was the way to go. BINGO! In walks me! So minutes after it was offered on Reverb ...and for small change it was mine!
@alwaysopen79704 жыл бұрын
Lots of Cali NAMM pieces take a lot longer to complete than a production model. It's a brand new year and new models of the same guitars but, bigger and better. "Name artist" plays one and it's THE guitar to buy that year. OOHH and AAHH. I have always loved NAMM hype. Its like the Detroit car show.

My 60th R9 is the best guitar I have ever owned. Possibly the best I’ve ever played. I did change the pickups. The Customombuckers are really good but I like my bridge a bit hotter and neck a bit clearer. The Mojotone 59 Clone hot set is freaking perfect, especially with their 500k pots. Mine weighs 8lbs even. It’s lighter than my SRV Stratocaster!

Bought one some time back, factory burst, had to have one. Waited 3 months for delivery. Top isn't quite as detailed, but still striking. Matter of fact, I like mine better. Glad I did.

@kaitodesire4 жыл бұрын
Sad right?
@Iheartdgd4 жыл бұрын
Just want to let you know that you’re wrong. First of all, this model isn’t that expensive (compared to other collectable guitars), rich people play their guitars too, and this guitar will be around for centuries, who knows how many people’s hands it will have gone through by then. Even Peter Green’s guitar is still being gigged. Besides, you don’t have to be ‘old’ or ‘rich’ to collect guitars. Also, how many high-profile/professional/serious guitar players do you see playing cheap guitars? Not many edit; notice i didn't say "none."

I have a 60th R9 (acquired in UK); a much later one judging by the s/n - 9 99xx. It's sub 9lbs, but only by an ounce. Its top is partial quilt and partial flame in Cherry Teaburst and it's incredibly stable, tuning-wise. Sound is SO Les Paul - they did a good job in that respect, though its finish is quite lack-lustre in many details (over spray on the binding, poor staining to the neck) and I had to have a new (Tusq) nut made as its original, period-correct nylon one had been cut too deep and needed far to much neck relief dialled in to stop buzzing on the first few frets. One difference I noticed to your NAMM example is that my (Made in Costa Rica) case does not have the "Lifton" label in it. You suggested that, as an 'export' model, it would likely have Palfero fretboard; not sure what mine is, but it's dark and very tightly grained... to the point you could get away with calling it Brazilian Rosewood!

Not only is this guitar beautiful, it actually sounds amazing. I'm usually not a fan of the middle position on Les Pauls but this thing sounded crazy good.

Because the bridge pup is usually hotter than the neck and they don't balance out well until you learn the volume controls. Lots of players can make them sound like an acoustic.
